Kinda tempting, but I’m still not convinced of the value of PS+ as someone who will only own a PS4. For those with a PS3 and PS Vita it’s a no-brainer. But it looks like PS+ on the PS4 will probably be a couple of small indie games every month, perhaps? Who knows how it will shake out. But I’m guessing they won’t have PS3 style game libraries to give to members until the PS4 library is quite a bit bigger.
Still, that is $10 off the regular price.
If you care about multiplayer, you need PS+ to play multiplayer on the PS4. Everything else on PS4 is free except for the multi.
Played through and finished Contrast today. Enjoyable story, pretty to look at, puzzles are fun without too much challenge. Since you can replay chapters, I may go back and clean up the last 3 trophies I’m missing so I can 100% what will probably be for the last time over the life of the PS4.

Yeah. What Teiman wrote pretty much got at what I meant. In many shooters it boils down to putting someone in the middle of your screen and holding the shoot button until they die or you do while moving erratically. The class abilities, pace of combat, and moving attack/defend objectives in Killzone really help bring about smart blending of abilities with a concern for player placement. What I call, “tactical.” Consider the following situation from a previous game:
The map is basically a concrete trench network in the shape of a wagon wheel where players can move in the trenches or move about on the top area via crossing bridges. The objective mode selected had my team holding a point down in the trench.
Assault Class (A): Can deploy a friendly fire energy shield (E) that lets blocks enemy fire but lets friendly troops shoot through it.
Support Class (S): Can fire off a medical drone that runs over and revives teammates
Recon Class ®: Can ping the map to show X-ray outlines of enemy or friendly troops through walls. Can also turn invisible.

In this case the enemy team is in the direction of the top of the diagram. The two Assault classes are covering the side tunnels with energy shields in front of them. They are sort of turned 45 degrees so they are covered by the shields from the side, but can see the main front hall and can use the side trench if needed for cover. The Support guy is watching the main entry but behind the two Assault’s so that he can revive in case they make a push. Recon player is roaming up top to scan periodically and watch for flank attacks that may be coming around to jump into mid trench. The beacon (B) is the point that needs to be held in the middle of the trench. It is almost like a sports game where you have dedicated positions, roles, and placement. The other team needs to find a way to break it. Maybe a huge push up top with timed grenade spam from the front (each player has only one grenade). Perhaps a dedicated cloaked assassin who’s goal is to kill the Support guy in the back to allow his team to push as the reviver will be down.
This is just a different kind of thinking than you find in say a Call of Duty type game. It gets pretty fun and crazy with moves and counter moves when folks are working together. This is not just because of the teamwork, but the tools offered by the class toys along with teamwork in deploying them.
I played Resogun briefly, and it definitely oozed the Housemarque charm and playability. However, I don’t understand how the game works, and there are no instructions. So, I have these humans in boxes… every once in a while a box will start glowing blue and either the human falls out of it or he dies. I have no idea what causes it or how to prevent it.
Check out the Giant Bomb quick look, should help. You don’t want to prevent the humans from falling out of the boxes. You want to pick them up and deliver them to the beam when they do.
RE: Resogun, I had to look at the online manual, you have to kill the green colored enemies to release the humans from their boxes. When you hear “keepers have been detected” it means a wave of green enemies is about to show up, their path is drawn on the screen, and if you destroy all of them a human will be released. Then you have to pick it up and bring it to the glowing arrow in the sky.
Is that graph for real? Like, the PS4 has the best start in a decade even comparing 24h to a full month?

All last-gen launches were pretty supply-constrained. As expensive as the PS3 was - they were sold out at many places that Christmas season. Same for the Xbox 360, IIRC. And we all know that the Wii ended up being supply-constrained for Christmas 2007 (its second Christmas season), too.
So, I guess in the case of the PS4, relying on standard PC components (mostly) paid off and enabled Sony to produce a much higher volume.

I got it from the internets so I can’t be sure about its veracity. But Sony has claimed that the PS4 is their best start ever and apparently the 360 was hugely supply constrained upon release. Games are being released that make 1 billion dollars in 24 hrs so I can believe that more people are buying consoles these days than ever before. I expect the xbone to top everything else (except the ps4) as well.

You guys still on the fence can probably expect a ps4/vita bundle announcement shortly;)
Big launches like new consoles are supply constrained (well, usually). If they got to make more consoles this time, they can sell more.

Where’s the PS2 in that graph. Also the original Xbox sold that well, nearly twice as many X360? Huh, who would’ve figured.
Resogun seems to be the default must-get/play game for the PS4 and it basically comes free with every system since you need plus for multiplayer now. And even if you don’t feel like ponying up the $50 for a year, there is a month trial included in the box I believe.

Question: my plan is probably PS4 (I have both 360 and PS3 now, but I won’t be going with two consoles this time, at least at first) - but I read that you cannot plug in a USB stick with a movie, or music, and play the movie or music on the PS4. Is that true? I actually do that on a regular basis with my current PS3.
I don’t plan on playing any multiplayer games on the PS4 since my friends and relatives all seem to be staying with 360 or going to Xbox One. But I’m just afraid that if I activate the free month now, I won’t get the maximum value out of it. If I wait until they add more games to PS+, and are about to rotate something out, THEN I’ll maximize the value of that free month, and I can play Resogun at that time.
On the other hand it seems silly to wait when there’s nothing else on the console I want besides Resogun.

Guessing y’all are too young to have played Defender? :)
Or Defender 2000. I was kind of amused by Teiman’s reference to “Defenders” as a C64 game, since it was most famous as an arcade game and was ported/copied on every platform ever.
Yea, the PS2 wasn’t supply-constrained either. Neither was the original Xbox, unlike the 360 (it just started slow)
