Ditto. I really appreciate being able to use it to type rather than select characters using the onscreen keyboard. Great for messages, taking the frustration out of the longer ones, although short words/phrases/passwords don’t need it. This way, I never have to think about hooking up a keyboard.
A few days on with it and I just like a lot about it. Interface is simple and fast, stuff is easy to get to, controller is great, Twitch and video/screenshot sharing is super easy. The games look great and are fun too.
The main row of icons needs to be redone to allow groups or something. Its fine when you first start it but I already see it becoming unwieldy as the row continues to stretch out. I don’t they they put long term thinking into it.

It’s fine for now but I agree. There are a lot of little things I’m annoyed with about it right now. I’m thinking the UI is the last thing they worked on and basically rushed out the door along with those missing other missing features. I think there will be a major update to the interface sometime next year to fix these annoyances and restore those missing features.

You know about pressing in R3 to get a sixaxis pointer to control the on-screen keyboard? I find that almost as fast as pecking it into my phone, and I don’t need to pull my phone out of my pocket.
No, actually I didn’t, but I’m pretty fast on my phone and it’s right there with me all the time anyway (not in my pocket). R3 might be useful in some situations, though. Thanks for the tip!

You can push down on the X360 controllers. I don’t remember if you could on the original Xbox and I don’t have a XBone controller to check but I would assume so. No idea on what the technical term for those buttons would be refer to as but then I also don’t refer to the shoulder buttons as bumpers and triggers either.
On the 360 they just tell you to click the right stick or left stick. Usually there’s an icon of a stick from the side, with an arrow pointing down, indicating you should press down on the stick (in the tutorials). Certainly less confusing than the first time I was told to press R3 on playstation. That was years ago, but I also remember being really confused.

Is there a comment or status message on the PS4 like there was on the PS3? Something that lets you say “away” or “hey join us for Kilzzone at blah time”.

Not that I have seen. I like that you can join games from the XMB now instead of loading up the game and then needing an invite. So sometimes I will join random games I see somebody on my friendlist is playing.

Interesting times, and this will relate to the Xbox functionality when it hits. Provide people a toolset and some people are going to do weird things with it. Obviously this kind of thing violated Twitch ToS and they seem to have acted pretty quickly in this case, but how geared up are they to scale monitoring of this kind of thing, and how much fallout will there be for the console makers themselves?
As mentioned in the Kotaku article, I can see Sony removing streaming functionality for apps like Playroom, which can be used as a platform for self broadcasting.

I have noticed this disturbing new trend on the PS4 streams. On one hand it is a mesmerizing car wreck that is a bit hard to pass by without looking. On the other hand it has made the PS4 a source of parental anxiety. An eight year old could be lasering some pixels in Resogun gun one second, then watching 20 second delayed drunk trailer porn with a fair bit of substance abuse and hate speech the next.
This can’t last. I hope streaming games survives, but this can’t last.
