Sorry. I think I still have leftover resentment from way back when I thought that the series had massive potential. Like coming from Vietcong that maybe, just maybe, another game could do iron sights with creativity and not in an engine made from knockoff Czech Legos.

Then Modern Warfare killed the dream with the fire of a thousand achievements.

thousand yard stare I still remember the day the world burned…

Two words concerning UT: CTF Instagib.

I got tired of not having any games for the PS4 except for that F2P shit (Warframe is the first one I tried, and it is sooooo mediocre, I can’t imagine why anyone would play that). I restarted Gamefly membership and put most PS4 launch games they had on the list.

First game got here today: Call of Duty Ghosts. I downloaded and installed the update so I could play at 1080p. The game is almost as mediocre as Warframe actually. Way to take even a post-apocalyptic setting and make it feel generic and boring I guess. It doesn’t even look all that great, 1080p or not. But I guess that’s to be expected since the primary platforms for this one were still the last generation.

Anyway, I kind of knew what I was getting into thanks to all the reviews of CoD: Ghosts. The real reason I wanted to play it is that I wanted to give the Dual shock 4 a real test run with a shooter.

After an evening of play, I feel like I need more time. I don’t completely suck at shooting with the DS4 like I did with the DS3 and DS2, but at the same time it doesn’t feel as fluid and effortless as the 360 controller. The controls feel really stiff and the auto aim seems to actually cause me to miss more than it helps by dragging the reticle around. The default sensitivity seems way too low, so tomorrow I’ll try it again but turn up the sensitivity. The Options button is in a crazy spot. That’s going to take some getting used to.

Any advice from anyone? Warframe seemed to have too low a sensitivity by default too. Has anyone here tried Call of Duty Ghosts? What sensitivity do you play on for the DS4? And is there a way of turning down the autoaim? Mostly I’m just getting by with body shots and no headshots since I can’t aim all that well with the DS4 yet.

I think it has been ok for bf4 for me. Warframe felt a bit oversensitive. Warframe is pretty o.k. when you have a group of friends on chat, but it takes a bit of an investment to get into.

I have really liked the ds4 as a controller. The xbox controller feels a bit chunky in comparison.

I’m curious how you find aiming on the XB1 sticks, as most people seem to complain that they are too loose in comparison to the 360 controller.

Warframe is awesome (PC) but probably helps a lot if you have a friend or three to play with.

Rock8man got a PS4? When did this happen?

2.1 million PS4s sold worldwide according to Andrew House via EG.

PlayStation 4 has sold over 2.1 million units worldwide, Sony has announced.

PlayStation 4 launched in North America on 15th November and sold one million units within 24 hours. The console launched in Europe and Latin America on Friday, 29th November, and has added even more to the grand total, including around 250,000 in the UK. In total PS4 is available in 32 countries.

It hasn’t yet launched in Japan so expect a lot more in February 2014.

I wouldn’t expect many more from Japan; they aren’t big on home consoles over there, hence the delayed PS4 launch for Sony’s home territory in the first place (and the up-in-the-air status of the Xbone launch over there).

Of those 2.1m, 700,000 were sold in Europe and Australasia.

They only shipped 700K to Europe which explains why it’s so hard to find there. Pretty canny move considering they’ve still got something like a 3:1 sales advantage over Xbox One there, and by prioritizing shipments to North America the sales advantage here should remain significant despite the questionable reports of Microsoft “winning” Black Friday. And they’re still launching in the Middle East and Asia later this month.

Sales numbers at launch are a bit silly, because they aren’t constrained by demand but by supply.

They can be useful to create momentum.
Developers who plan games for those consoles right now need to define their lead platform.
If it’s PS4 Xbone will be 3rd in the comparisons of multi-platform titles for the remainder for this generation behind PC and PS4 due to its lacking power.

Tell that to all the sad unsold WiiUs last year, or the lonely, unwanted Xbox Ones on the shelf in Europe right now. The PS4 launch is remarkable because the supply is unprecedented and it is still being outstripped by even greater demand.

I like them a lot for Forza and Powerstar Golf and Killer Instinct. But that’s not really a good test for analog sticks. Well, maybe Forza is. But regardless, I’ve put Call of Duty and Battlefield on my Gamefly queue for the XB1 so that I get to try the new controller with a shooter. That will be the first real test.

My brother really hates the new sticks when he plays Ryse, since they make his thumbs sore in less than an hour of play. He says the analog sticks are like the Dreamcast controller in that way, since they made them rough on top.

But again, I haven’t had that problem in Forza or Golf, since I guess those aren’t really thumbstick heavy games.

Launch day. Sadly, I just haven’t had anything to play on it until yesterday except the free to play games.

You can’t buy an Xbox One or a PS4 in the UK, and haven’t been able to since launch (apart from a couple of “oh we’ve got some stock in… all gone” moments).

Yep. I can’t comment on the rest of Europe, but that’s the case here. I’ve heard of retailers getting more stock within the next 7 days (someone from HMV commenting they were expecting about 2/3 of their launch allocation to be resupplied during that period). This could potentially account for as much as 100,000 consoles across retailers. Amazon UK is not planning to have stock before January (though I’m sure some will trickle in at times). And retailers like Shopto have put back the XBox One on “preorder”.

We’ll see how much gets stocked and how much sells. But the XBox One is supply constrained right now.

Wendelius

Yea, no need to guess on this stuff for the UK, at least;

In and out inside an hour atm for both consoles. (Argos has plenty of 2DS’s, though!)

It’s not like the supply isn’t constrained in the U.S. I keep seeing rumors that Best Buy, Target, etc. have “held back” supply and that plenty would be available at (for example) Black Friday, after Black Friday, etc.

Yet a quick search of each of Target, Wal-Mart, and Best Buy show none available by website for any of them, and none available at any stores in my (fairly large) metropolitan area.
