The Qt3 Top 10 Games of the Decade Voting Thread

My favourite outcome of this thread is discovering I’m not the only person in the world who loved Dragon Age II.

At last! Thought I was going to be only person to include it! :-D

Hoping to get mine in tomorrow. I’m a late person.

Be glad: I would have blamed you very strongly if he hadn’t!

So much pressure!

But seriously, OTC is such a unique game.

I don’t think it’ll make my top 10 list, but I did love it.

Here are my top 10 in no particular order:

  • Destiny

  • XCOM2

  • Divinity original sin 2

  • Offworld Trading Company

  • Dark Souls 3

  • Mount & Blade: Warband

  • Rocket league

  • Kingdom: New Lands

  • Hollow Knight

  • Zelda: breath of the wild

Can you bold the titles please?

Edit: Ninja’ed!

Not the dots, just the titles.

My short list was about three dozen games. I’m not even going to try and rank the top ten. The first six of the top ten are likely going to be there every time I make the list, but the last four could change.

  • Disco Elysium - There’s probably a recency bias here, but I think it would still be on the list in five years
  • Bastion - I haven’t really enjoyed any other Supergiant games, but Bastion was nearly perfect
  • Jackbox Party Pack (it’s not going to win, so I’m not going to pick a volume) - these are the best party games ever made
  • XCOM 2 - Especially with the expansion. One of the only strategy games I’ll play Ironman.
  • Crusader Kings 2 I’m pretty sure I still don’t understand how combat works in this game, but I don’t care.
  • Saints Row: The Third A delightfully crazy romp. For whatever reason, I liked 3 more than 4. I think it may have been the surprise.
  • Ascension I’m specifically talking about the iOS port, not the physical board game. This may be the game I played the most of last decade.
  • Firewatch - Firewatch worked for me and I was all-in on the story.
  • Mass Effect 2- my favorite of the 201X Bioware games, and one of the vary few games I finished more than once
  • The Witcher 3 - I still haven’t gone back for the DLC, but this was the best open world RPG I’ve played

Interestingly, none of my top 10 games were played on a console, but I don’t think any of the are PC-only.

My top played game is a game I would play when I was super depressed because it shut my brain off. It’s a runner-up, but not one of my ten favorites. Firewatch, on the other hand, was a five hour game that I absolutely loved and don’t need to play again. I have a very large number of hours in Borderlands 2 because it was a game that my friends loved and I liked playing games with them. It may be on their best list of 201X, but it sure isn’t on mine.

  1. The Last of Us
  2. Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen
  3. Battletech
  4. God of War (2018)
  5. Bloodborne
  6. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
  7. Tearaway
  8. Spiderman
  9. Horizon: Zero Dawn
  10. Hohokum

It was agonizing cutting this from my list! Glad it is on someone’s! High five!

This was a narrow exclusion for me as well. Had i not put some board games in, it and OTC were likely tp make the cut.

Ah, Jackbox. I keep wishing they would take all the You Don’t Know Jack portions (and Murder Party) and condense them into one, big, proper YDKJ sequel.

Or offer all the games separately. I don’t care for all the Fibbage or drawing type games and paying extra for them when all I want is YDKJ or Murder party makes me sad.

  • XCOM2
Everyone has said everything I could say about this game already

  • Factorio
Games that satisfies something in me about building and production lines that I did not even know I had inside of me.

  • Warframe
I am not good at tactical first person/third person games. But I can play this game and even use the cool movement skills like I am 20 years old again. It also happens to be the best free to play game that I have ever tried.

  • Sentinels of the Multiverse
I love this game as both a board game and in its digital format. It takes superheroes and puts it into a card based system where each hero brings something to the table and does a tremendous job of making the hero unique thus allowing each game played to be different. One of its other accomplishments is in how it simulates the bosses who can change its level of strength as the game progresses.

  • Fire Emblem Three Houses
One of the reasons to own a Switch

  • Code Names
The fun we had as a family playing as different teams (boys against the girls, Old vs Young) places it on my list. It is the best word related game I have ever played where knowledge of the word is not that important but your knowledge of how other people you know will react to your clues is wonderful.

  • Battletech
I never thought anyone could make Battletech work so well on the computer screen.

  • Gemcraft Chasing Shadows
I love Tower Defense games and this is the Ultimate TD game. In some ways it is also my most frustrating game of the decade simply due to optimization issues (the game slows to a crawl when too many enemies are on the screen at once).

  • City of Heroes
This was my first MMO and low and behold the game came back from the dead. I remember reading @RichVR note that the game brought him back into the fun of gaming when he was feeling down himself about computer games. I think it deserves to be here for that alone.

  • Prismata
I really admire this game. It really accomplishes its mission of creating a Turn Based Real Time Strategy game. I keep going back to it to play every once in a while.

Honorable Mentions:
Infested Planet
I really do not like playing any type of Real Time Strategy Games. Infested Planet is the one exception. It gave me the feeling of what a true Starship Troopers game could be like.

Space Base
Best Engine Builder Board Game

C’monnnnnn drop that Witcher noise and join me in the Fate Corenation!

Also y’all makin me want to toss something out in favor of the Jackbox games. They’re so damned fun.

You just made me headsmack and realize all the joy I’ve derived from dozens of games of Codenames administrated digitally on Dave’s Qt3 Slack. Including a lot of quality hours playing with xtien <3

I think this thread leads to alot of head-smacking opportunities!

Like I could have had a V8 (this comment definitely shows my age).

Great fun. I have several versions.

Can you add a star and a space before each game title so that it becomes a bulleted list in discourse?

Is that better?
