Just don’t use any characters as frigging stupid and random as the Troublemaker or Drunk from that Werewolf game.

Agreed on Drunk, but I’ve already explained to you how awesome the Troublemaker is. Come on, Dave!

As drunk twice in a row, I concur.

Sounds correct to me.

Argh, I forgot already!

I’m kind of leaning towards going with ALL the regular roles in my game, just to make it crazier. Any thoughts? The only real required roles are Merlin and the Assassin. That means we’d have:

GOOD (6 total):
Merlin - can see all the Evil players except Mordred.
Percival - can see both Merlin and Morgana but doesn’t know which is which
plus 4 loyal servants of Arthur

EVIL (4 total):
Assassin - gets to kill one Good player at the end. If Merlin is killed, Evil wins no matter what the outcome of the missions was.
Morgana - looks just like Merlin to Percival.
Mordred - not seen by Merlin.
Oberon - doesn’t get to see or be seen by other Evil players.

Evil characters can see each other, except for Oberon. Merlin knows three Evil characters but not Mordred. He/she can’t be too open about it though because Evil wins if they can assassinate him/her at the end.

Percival needs to try and figure out which person is Merlin and which is Morgana, then emulate Merlin as best he/she can so Evil tries to assassinate him/her at the end instead of Merlin.

I hope these new characters don’t just cloud everything the way expansions usually do. But I’m game to try!

The pellet with the poison’s in the vessel with the pestle; the chalice from the palace has the brew that is true!

I think we should play with all of them. Since it’s the first game, we might as well try them out.

That’s the spirit!

Timeout! I thought there was an Avalon game and a normal Resistance game going?

Nope, two simultaneous games of Avalon, then we can compare/contrast between them.

Okay guys, I’ve been reading through the rules and talking to rowe33 and I think the best thing we can possibly do is add all of the rules and all of the special character abilities. What could go wrong?

Resistance members are called “Good” and Spies are called “Evil.” It’ll be the same 5 missions total, 3 missions to win as in vanilla Resistance (with the 4th mission requiring two FAILURE votes), with a couple little twists.

Both games will have the following characters:

Merlin: He’s on the side of Good, but he knows who the Evil players are so can guide Good to victory. But! At the end of the game, Evil will have one chance to assassinate Merlin. If Evil kills Merlin, Evil wins. Since we will play with Mordred and Oberon, there is an exception to this rule: Merlin does not know Mordred nor Oberon, both of whom are Evil but do not reveal to Merlin.

Percival: Percival is Good. He gets to know who Merlin is.

Mordred: Mordred is Evil. His special power is that Merlin doesn’t get to know who he is.

Oberon: Oberon is Evil, but (a) doesn’t get revealed to Merlin, and (b) doesn’t get revealed to the other Evil players.

Morgana: Morgana is Evil. She reveals to Percival as Merlin.

The best way to visualize how this stuff works is to imagine you are at a table with all of us. I would narrate how the reveals would happen. I would say:

Here’s Evil getting to know each other:

Everyone close your eyes and extend your hand into a fist in front of you.
Minions of Mordred, NOT OBERON, open your eyes and look around so you know all agents of Evil.
Minions of Mordred, close your eyes.
All players should have their eyes closed and hands in a fist in front of them.

Now Merlin gets to know who’s Evil (including Oberon, but not Mordred):

Minions of Mordred, NOT MORDRED HIMSELF, extend your thumb so that Merlin will know you.
Merlin, open your eyes and see the agents of evil.
Minions of Mordred, put your thumbs down and re-form your hand into a fist.
Merlin, close your eyes.
All players should have their eyes closed and hands in a fist in front of them.

Now Percival gets to know Merlin and Morgana (he doesn’t know which one is the real Merlin):

Merlin and Morgana, extend your thumb so that Percival may know you.
Percival, open your eyes so you may know Merlin and Morgana.
Merlin and Morgana, put your thumbs down and form your hand into a fist.
Percival, close your eyes.
All players should have their eyes closed and hands in a fist in front of them.

Then we’re done.

Everyone: open your eyes.

Note: We will not be playing with Plot cards.

Two questions:

First, are we going to use the Lady of the Lake?

Second, shouldn’t Merlin know Oberon? I don’t have rules in front of me, but from that script only Mordred is exempted from the Merlin step.

Of course, nobody will actually be closing and opening their eyes nor sticking their thumbs out and putting them away. What you’ll get is a PM with a list of people that you should know about. If you’re Good, you’ll just know that you’re good. You don’t get to know who else is Good. If you’re Evil, you’ll get a list of the other Evil members, minus Oberon and Mordred. If you’ve got a special ability, you will get more information. Then we’ll start the game at Mission 1.

We will not be using Lady of the Lake, because she’s an optional rule and we made an executive decision for using no optional rules this time.

From the rule book:

Oberon: Oberon is an optional Character on the side of Evil. Oberon’s special power is that he does not reveal himself ot the other Evil players, nor does he gain knowledge of the other Evil players at the start of the game. Oberon is not a “Minion of Mordred” and does not open his eyes during the reveal at the start of the game.

Yes, Oberon reveals to Merlin as Evil.
(Was WRONG: So I’m reading that as Oberon doesn’t do the thumb-sticking required for Merlin to know him.)

Nope.

This seems nuckin futs. No idea how I’m going to keep track of who knows who. Can’t wait to start!!

Thank you!
