C’mon, where’s that support for the “peacetime million a year for ages” figure that wasn’t just made up?

US plans to increase artillery production.

I’ve been thinking about this, and I think the issue is that the US figures that any war it gets involved in will be resolved within months. ie, once the US gets its Army divisions and Air Force squadrons and carrier groups to bear, the war will be over.

What they didn’t envision is a long-term slugfest draining ammo stocks for this long.

It seems to me we also just don’t rely on these sorts of systems so likely didn’t see too much of a need for maintaining an enormous stockpile. We’ve been able to rely on airpower, not mass artillery, HIMARS, Javelins, etc.

The US hasn’t been involved in a conflict like this since… Persian Gulf War? And that was very lopsided. I think (and hope) we’re learning a lot from this conflict.

Not since Vietnam, really.

The real worry for me is that the industrial needs for US weapons become so advanced that adding significant production during a drawn out war becomes basically impossible. The ideal development from this in my mind would be a solution that doesn’t drastically increase our stockpiles but provides an ability to rapidly ramp up production if needed. Although I fear the only realistic way to do that is to basically build a bunch of capacity and then just leave it idling with the government footing the bill for maintaining that capacity in that state.

Disappointed in @alekseivolchok for not informing us of this news:

Meanwhile, video of the Yampil zoo shows the carcasses of animals butchered and eaten by the Russian occupiers.

What do you put on a Russian? Russian dressing!

Another Ukrainian drone strike on an airfield:

Sorry, I thought it was common knowledge. I’ll give you a photo of a slightly damaged Russian bomber from yesterday.

Just slap a couple of lengths of duct tape, send her up!

On an A-10 that would be considered flight ready.

On an A-10, it would be called stylish embellishment.

Good news. Strelkov/Girkin, famous blogger, Russian patriot and war criminal, returned from the Russian army. It didn’t work for him. You can translate his report from here (I recommend DeepL Translate: The world's most accurate translator)

The high command hated him and fired him very soon after he enlisted. But he was attracting some donations and people to his unit… So the CO of his military unit didn’t tell him this. He was in the unit for some time without a right to be there. He never saw any combat. Then he discovered he’s not actually on any list, returned his gear and came back to Moscow.

Looking forward to new quality analytics from him!

That’ll buff right out.

Your wish is granted!

Yeah, his impressions are cool too. It’s a later post, not the one I’ve dropped. The first one is amazing. Just to reiterate: Russian army allowed him to hang out in the army without giving him any actual rights as long as he, oblivious, was a poster boy for their onlyfans or whatever and attracked donations and volunteers.

This is poetry. This is the greatest Russian writer Vladimir Sorokin made real.

If I read the post you dropped correctly, he was given the impression he was battalion chief of staff only to realise he’s not really anything?

That must have been a huge slap in the face.

Yes, this is exactly what happened. He made posts about how cool his own unit will be and that only the best of the bests will be there. Self-funded, with custom equipment. No drinking allowed.
