I’m agree with what this author believes will happen over the winter, if indeed the UA does decide to attack than rather than buildup over the winter:

A Patriot single missile costs $2-3 million, so if they’re firing it at those cheap Iranian flying bombs that’s going to get real expensive real fast.

Yeah I don’t think they’re going to be using them against the cheap drones but rather cruise missiles that are also being used.

Whether or not the Patriots prove to be significantly effective tactically, the fact we are sending them is significant politically. It’s a morale booster, and a signal of support. And a bit of psychological warfare I guess too.

Who really knows what’s in these boxes named “Patriots”, amirite?

Jokes aside, I am wondering whether that’s a cost effective system for what’s being lobbed at them. Logistics and training must also be complex.

I suspect it is as much if not more political as it is tactical. Not that that is a bad thing, war being politics by other means and all that.

I agree, but I wonder if there are other weapon systems more suited to purpose. I’m sure the wonks have thought this through though.

Please throw in some ATACMS

That’s impressive intel for a decapitation strike.

Funny thing, a few years back when I’ve traveled to Russia and went to a diner, they sold exact same product as Chicken Russian.

Why not both? Public display of Patriot systems, which everyone has heard of, and less public deployment of less well-known systems to do the actual work? Truly, though, I do not know the capabilities of contemporary versions of the Patriot system, so I have no idea how effective it might be, or to what purposes the Ukrainians will put it.

Food names are apparently a bit thing around the world. During WWI, in the US, hot dogs, which were often called Frankfurters, became “Liberty Sausage,” while sauerkraut became “Liberty Cabbage.”

TIL Freedom Fries have a pedigree.

“She did the Liberty Sausage boogie” doesn’t have the same lyrical quality to it.

Liberty Sausage does sound like a good Andy Daly character though.

Maybe they really want more of these:

That looks like a better defense against slow and noisy drones for sure, especially if there’s good detection and communication on their trajectory. I’m assuming the Patriots are for the rarer (for Russia) and more expensive cruise missiles?

I feel cold just looking at those pictures.

Looks like Nebraska this time of year.

Only with fewer guns.
