It takes a lot of courage to give speech before Congress, one of the biggest stages in the world, even more so when English isn’t your native language.

It is crazy to think the speech was probably only the only 2nd or 3rd bravest thing that man has done this week.

Unless the 21st century has a ton of wars, Zelenskyy is the odds on favorite to go down as this century’s Winston Churchill.

Yep, that speech was one for the ages! I know it’s a tough road ahead. I hope we can find a way to give Ukraine the technological advantage they’ll need to negate Russia’s advantage in numbers.

All I can say is “Wow!!!” after seeing this Russian ammo dump explode (from last week):

I just finished watching that speech (just caught the last part, repeated) before the joint session. Let’s hope that the standing ovation it got is a sign that the Congress was moved to continue its support.

Conscripts are drafted into the army but can’t legally fight a war?

Yes. Legally they can’t fight in a war for some time. They’re going there for the training.

Meanwhile mobilized troops can instantly go to war.

Putin also clearly stated he won’t send draftees to the war at all. During their service they no doubt will be coerced into signing a contract, and then they’re no longer draftees but regular soldiers.

But this is all BS and I can’t stop underlining the word legally.

Well most people were moved.

For Xmas, I went to see Don Jr, drawn and quartered, and his headed mounted on spike outside of Trump Tower, New York. I realize that isn’t a normal request for Santa, but I am also asking for the millions who agree with me

Oh darrnit, I missed it! When is it Trump’s turn?

What’s wrong about a citizen who is worried about where his taxes go?

Everybody has ideas about what is important and what is not, but some of those ideas are wrong.

And sometimes it comes from somebody who hasn’t had to work for their money which makes it all more than a little ironic.

From what I heard, McCarthy met with Zelensky at some point during the day. That seems like the person who needs to be moved, assuming he does end up as speaker.

And of course, framing the military aid being sent to Ukraine in dollar amounts is pretty disingenuous. The US hasn’t sent Ukraine $44b in cash. As I understand it, a lot of that is in military equipment and materiel that the DoD has designated for phase out or replacement. They’re taking our hand-me-downs (with some exceptions, obvs).

Well that’s certainly not how the table full of old men at Dippin’ Donuts this morning sees it. And they sounded pretty sure.

All the drawdown funds are sending existing stuff. And yeah, my understanding is most of that is stuff we’d never expect to dip into. Obsolete equipment and older stocks of ammo. And the latest round of funding included money to build more production capacity for ammunition, which means that’s basically all domestic investments.

But of course that Tweet has nothing to do with actual thoughts or real stances on things. It’s pure Whiny Outrage Culture social media done to outrage most people and get applause from the gross remnants of a fanbase that family still has.

Almost a year later and the anti-Ukraine stuff hasn’t gotten a lot of traction on the right. Considering most of the people trying to sell it just had an absolutely embarrassing performance in the elections, I maintain that this is another absolutely losing move for them. Tucker may one day discover he isn’t as all-powerful as his big head believes he is.

I’m not sure what Drudge’s demographic is these days(it’s certainly not the super Trumpers) but it’s a pretty wildly different take

Don Jr. never has actual thoughts.

The sheer audacity of a nepo baby like Donald Jr accusing someone like Zelensky of asking for a handout. Fuck.

As we’ve seen so many times, though, this is more normal than not. It’s a sort of Dunning-Kruger effect, only involving privilege.

There’s a difference between saying I want to make sure the equipment and money going to Ukraine is properly accounted for” and saying “Zelensky is an international welfare queen”. One is a real valid concern, the other is just political vomit
