Yeah, it was quite something. I’m sure Ukrainians are going to be looking back on it for many many years.

Who said anything about Soviet “quality”? The vast majority of Ukrainian artillery are Soviet era guns, for which they have been running short of ammo. It only makes sense to be able to produce shells for these guns if they are to be of any continued use.
not to be confused by the Brit spelling of calibre, or the Russian Kalibr cruise missile
Good summary of Russian propaganda in form of a short presentation. More eloquently put than the path of my combining words into sentences. Sorry for reddit link.

According to this article, Surovikin is out after three months and is being replaced by the guy who led the Kyiv invasion. Is this punishment for failing to take Bakhmut, assuming the report is accurate? I’m not sure if Bakhmut was strictly Wagner or if the regular Russian army was involved, but I thought I read the deal was to withdraw from Kherson in order to advance in the east and Bakhmut is the only major Russian offensive I’ve heard about.

My guess is that he promised capitulation by shifting to targeting infra and he didn’t deliver? From the news it seemed like he was having more relative success compared to his predecessors but that’s a low bar to start from.

I just picture the scene in Starship Troopers where the Sky Marshall resigns from command, in the news reel.
It’s all a bit of a joke - as long as Putin is calling the shots they will make moves based off domestic political needs, instead of actual military goals.
There’s some sort of misunderstanding. Surovikin stays in his position, this new guy is one rank lower. This new guy is supposedly his friend, unlike the previous one.

Somebody is seriously claiming the Russians have 3,000 T-14’s waiting in the wings? This is insane, they couldn’t afford that many of them, even if they can get them to work. And it is a well known secret the the Armata had had serious production problems. And why aren’t they already on the battlefield? Russia is more likely to field a million men before they have 3,000 of these tanks. You have to be lacking a brain to believe this.

Is there even a single confirmed battle ready T-14 anywhere in the world? I’ve read that all the T-14s shown off in military parades are a bit suspect on actual specs - curious if this thing even actually exists.

No. The Russians said they were going to have them in 2019. And then said they didn’t have an engine.
Then it was something else, autoloader, I think.
Then last month they said they’re for sure making them in 2023. And there will be like 40 of them.

I have another laughable one for you: a million mobilized men to the front!
The main goal is still to make your own people realize that there’s no objective truth anywhere. But sometimes it’s cool to use some naive Westerner who thinks that old white guy in a suit on TV won’t consciously tell a complete nonsense. They wouldn’t say stuff that will be easily disproved and destroy their credibility, don’t they?

A great read on World Central Kitchen in Ukraine. Photo essay seems to be available without subscription, although the accompanying story is subscription locked. I’m a bit embarrassed to find myself reading The Wall Street Journal, but they do seem to have some of the best Ukraine coverage out there, providing more extensive coverage than the NYTimes and WashPost (and delivering it in a more timely fashion).
