I know that sometimes it looks like savages look at the metal and stone cities and think this is paradise, but I hope you realize that consistent problems of Western corrupt and dishonest democracies are nothing compared to what is considered normal in archaic dictatorships.

Winter has been late this season but apparently the ground is due to freeze in Ukraine over the next week. If the AFU has managed to retain a reserve despite having to reinforce places like Bakhmut, then we may start seeing some real movement in the next couple of months.

Too bad they don’t already have the IFVs. Watching their offensives being conducted with Humvees was scary and indicates just how badly depleted Russian forces were (the fact the offensives were successful using that equipment, I mean). I think these armored vehicles could potentially be a big deal for Ukraine.

My brother-in-law uses this logic all the time when arguing with his wife. He calls it “Joshtistics”. It’s going to give her an aneurysm someday.

I come from Kenya.

Verrrry corrupt.

decimated just means reduced by 10% right? ;)

Germany sending a Patriot air defence battery to Ukraine along with the Marder IFVs

Awesome. Ukraine has been asking for those for a while and from my armchair view it seems like Marders/Bradleys/Etc are a better fit than heavy tanks like the Abrams.

Gack, just 50 bradleys? I hoped for the 3000 white bradleys of Democracy to swiftly roll all over those wagner cunts and free all the poor dumb mobiks from their oppressors into glorious Uke captivity.

From that same Perun video where he made some (IMO) very credible estimates of both blue and red artillery shell stocks and production, the far more poignant item (IMO again) is the fact that red road transportation is fucked. They lack the trucks to get the stuff to the front. They lack the organisation to get the stuff to the front.

From where I’m sitting, the orcs seem to be hanging on by their nails in places. The building is rotten, all it needs is a good hearty shove. 50 bradleys… pshaw! at least 500 dammit!

As for the AMX-10-105, man, that’s gonna rock. It lends itself to some primo cavalry shit. Go on a rampage through the enemy rear and didi mau before anything like a stiff resistance can be mounted. Preferably fuck up a whole bunch of trucks. The more I study this war, the more I see how a humble truck is far more of a valuable target than a T-80U.

Here, have some more of that awesome propaganda:

Fuck yeah baby!

Feels like in the last 3-7 days that NATO has arrived at a consensus opinion that not only can Ukraine hold out in this war, but that they can actually win it outright.

Also not to be dismissed: with the amount of weaponry and especially ammo coming from the west, Ukraine is on a trajectory to kind of become a western-armed nation…which sort of makes entry into NATO a lot more likely, I’d think.

This was my favorite Captain Himars video.

That one is right up there with singing “you wanted this soil, now you become part of it. Sleep.”

No, I get it, it’s discombobulating when you know for a fact that someone is wrong, and you feel compelled to correct the mistake, but I question the wisdom of spending that much time on someone who you know to be consistently wrong, when that person doesn’t really respond to it.

I’m a big fan of the serenity prayer. It’s great advice, better for your blood pressure, better for your sleep :)

NICE!

And more than just being western-armed, they’ll actually have the experience and training to be able to pull off the “modern system” of warfare. Friend-of-the-forum blog ACOUP has a bit on this (the thrust of the article is about chemical weapons, but it’s in there, I think) about how you can’t just give modern western armaments to a country and expect them to be able to use them effectively, as we’ve (the US) found out repeatedly in our various gallavantings.

Not just using Western gear and internalizing Western-influenced ways of war (on real battlefields in a very very real conflict). They have also used their old Russian stuff much better than the Russians themselves have done. The morale is to the physical as three is to one and all that. Getting a country to be able to operate equipment is one thing. Getting them to develop a workable synthesis of their own style and the concepts needed to make that equipment perform to its potential is entirely another. It’s something, for instance, the ARVN never did (though arguably the ROK was able to eventually).

I have a feeling these guys are going to be sought after to help train NATO troops / commanders once all this is done. It will be very satisfying if that comes around full circle.

Well, I think it is just your bias :) Seriously, statistics wasn’t taught in high school when I came through, nor was it a required class in college. Without at least an introductory course in it, people are going to get a lot wrong, especially those with just an high school education.

Here’s an article about the difficulties many people have with statistics, including even doctors:

https://www.fredhutch.org/en/news/center-news/2020/02/understanding-statistics.html

If doctors get it wrong, then what about the general population?

In England, roughly 96 percent of the general population struggles with solving problems relating to statistics and probability.

https://arstechnica.com/science/2018/10/fixed-mindsets-might-be-why-we-dont-understand-statistics/

I doubt the US is much better.

I thought @alekseivolchok was just riffing off of the statistics/bias joke and conversation. :)

Yeah, there’s a whole bunch to be said between, “Man, this is bullshit, I can’t wait to get back home, let’s go raid some houses and find some booze.” and “Fuck these motherfuckers invading my home, let’s kill them all.”
