Janster I suspect doesn’t see any way for Ukraine to win, and doesn’t see anyway to stop Russia that doesn’t end in nuclear war. He might hope there are other possibilities but I don’t think he believes they’re real.
It doesn’t help that he and many others depend on Russia Petro energy.
Personally (imo) it feels like he’s hanging around pro-Russian places too long and has a little bit of that Russian nihilism seeping in, where they might as well support Putin and be on the winning side because everything else is a disaster and doesn’t matter / can’t stop him. But imo that’s Russia compromat point of view, molded by a news system designed to erode reality to a morass of performative nonsense and leaving people inured, indictive, defeatist and resigned.

And just to be clear, I know Janster wasn’t pushing the argument that we shouldn’t supply Ukraine with weapons for that reason. My ire was directed at the kind of people he was talking about. I get into arguments with people like that as well, who typically are on the far left of the spectrum.
Oh trust me, I totally get it. I’m probably a “lefty” by American standards but I don’t know what that would mean if I were dropped into your political environment. In any case, I’ve been opposed to the military-industrial complex pretty much my whole life and have spent the last 20+ years in particular railing against American “adventurism” and militancy. So it’s an unusual place to find myself in as well.
And it’s definitely one of those things that irritate me so bad about the rightwing hawks who are now suddenly averse to any sort of military spending on Ukraine. I mean, really??? For the past two decades I’ve been called a traitor by you fucks because I didn’t “support the troops” or want to write blank checks for the military, and now here we are with the first moral use I can think of for this equipment we’ve poured billions into in the last two decades or more and NOW you all suddenly start thinking we shouldn’t be spending that money on Ukraine (and by “that money”, it’s really just sending them equipment that we already purchased and likely won’t ever use).
The two ends of the horseshoe can both fuck right off as far as I’m concerned. :)
German defence minister resigns. She’s been one of the most outspoken defenders of the pre-war policy, and apparently the least popular minister in the government.

Is that a good thing then?

She’s the one that responded to the Russian invasion by sending some helmets, I presume?
Hopefully this is a good thing but I have zero context. Maybe some German Qt3 posters can enlighten me. :)
Oklahoma has entered the chat.

So I was wondering who this guy was and if we should give a damn. To save anyone else from looking it up, he’s an Oklahoma State Senator. So not Internet rando, but not in the US Congress (yet).
It probably goes without saying, he’s a Republican.
Yeah, that was her.
I am also not up on current German politics, but it does seem like an opportunity to tilt the balance of the cabinet more pro-Ukraine. It would be cool if a Green got the post, but that seems unlikely (because coalition partners in general fight like hell to keep their “share” of ministerial posts, and Scholz is hardly likely to just give one up.)

Jesus fucking christ on a three legged horse.
Fuck both ends of the horseshoe for sure, and fuck America for putting one end, the wrong end in their fucking government.

Hate to break it to that guy, but the bases are federal land, so suck it.
You have to assume that US counter-intelligence is seriously busy these days.

This caused a noticeable spike in my blood pressure!
EDIT: It’s kind of remarkable to see his replies in that twitter thread. He is like a high schooler (I probably just unfairly slighted many high schoolers with the comparison), as someone pointed out.
just say “America First” and then you can stop thinking

Two hard leftist parties in Norway got burnt badly on Libya, they are not keen to repeat that mess. Remember, before this war, Ukraine was just another backwater shithole in the east…
As for me, I got burnt on Libya too, but I don’t think they are the same stuff…and I don’t see how sending just humanitarian aid is going to make this into Russia making another puppet shithole like they do…
I support firmly sending hardware their way, the more the merrier, fuck Russia.
I’ve had enough. You’re going to be the sole person on my ignore list.
