I went to the liquor store today and when I approached the cashier they showed me an alert (I presume that it was from the Feds) they had just received with a list of Russian vodkas that they as of that moment were told not to sell.
The cashier was angry with Putin but they did wonder what they were going to do with the vodka sitting on their shelves.
This was in New Hampshire, the “Live Free or Die State.”
Not Feds. State governors. NYT says NH and Ohio. Reuters from yesterday says also in Ontario.

Yeah I was kind of worried that Russians will start bombing cell towers and internet infrastructure. I guess Elon Musk is not a complete dick after all?
That seems really performative and ineffective. Almost any – maybe all, or close to it – foreign imported liquors are sold through North American distributors. A bottle of Russian vodka on a store shelf in February of 2022 was paid for to the Russian manufacturer by the distributor weeks if not months ago.
Sure, stop importing if you want (and in the US we don’t drink very much Russian-originated vodka at all), but pulling product off of store shelves where it sits isn’t gonna do anything.
Oh Elon’s still a dick. He’s also a dick with a nose for good PR opportunities.
Unfortunately, this is probably not helpful to central Ukraine, as Starlink requires special dishes to use. If Ukraine didn’t have Starlink access before, it’s unlikely they have any dishes in the country, and I’m not sure how easily it will be able to get them where they need to go.

Relinking the best live-coverage I’ve found by far. By open source intelligence professionals. Frequent rotating guests.
Getting things quickly from one part of the world to another is something that Elon seems quite good at.

If Elon’s craving for public attention can be incentivized to actually do helpful things instead of robot submarines, it’s okay with me. Trading Twitter likes for Starlinks.
What? Elon has zero reputation getting things into the middle of an active war zone, one where the areas that really need it are surrounded by enemy forces. The hard part isn’t getting them to Ukraines borders, it’s how they get to the parts of Ukraine that really need it.
Just a reminder that if you’re going to post in this thread, please also read the thread. I realize it’s going fast, but there have been too many folks posting things that have already been posted without adding so much as a comment.
Remember this is a discussion, not a Twitter feed. Thanks, and please continue being awesome!

Similar ethnicities, uniforms, and equipment types, I know, but the “just give peace a chance” part of my head hopes the Russian intended to mean that his Ukrainian brothers also looked like human beings.

Well it was specifically asked for by Ukraine’s Vice Prime Minister. If NATO is getting armaments into the country I’m sure they can get some Starlink equipment in there added in to whatever shipments they’re doing if that’s what the Ukrainian government wants to prioritize. Certainly not enough for everyone, but its still useful if they can keep some access ongoing.

Hey Tom, just for clarification, are you asking us to make sure we aren’t posting things that have already been posted here on Qt3 (i.e., duplicating what other Qt3 posters have said), or are you asking us not to post things that have been posted elsewhere without adding our own commentary to them? I was assuming the former, except your “this is … not a Twitter feed” makes me worry that you’re talking about me.
I’ve been trying to post expert commentary from Twitter and often don’t have anything to add, because the original Twitter posters have a lot more expertise than I do. But I can stop doing that if you don’t want me posting those.
For example this set of Twitter posts by a Georgetown professor specializing in Nuclear Escalation or De-escalation which I found quite interesting but didn’t have anything to add to so I just posted her credentials to provide context and verify her legitimacy and then provided some of her key posts.

I think he is just talking about posting items from other places that have already been posted. Discourse is usually pretty good about mentioning it in the preview pane as long as you remember to look (was guilty of forgetting to do that earlier)
I believe he was referring to ALL manufacturers of dairy products.
Any recent news out of Kiev after that large airstrike/rocket barrage a few hours ago?
