The war comes to Majorca…

Ukraine is the new BAMF

Putin: “We are attacking Ukraine in self defense!”

(Ukraine hands them one…)

Putin: “Self defense!”

Do go ahead and post foreign language sources. Google’s translation really is quite good for the kind of language used for most news articles.

I was just reading Russia’s claims of Ukrainian losses.

“Since the beginning of the special military operation, the Russian armed forces have hit 1,067 military infrastructure facilities in Ukraine,” he said.

According to Konashenkov, 27 command posts and communication centers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 38 anti-aircraft missile systems of air defense: S-300, Buk M-1 and Osa, as well as 56 radar stations were liquidated. “Today alone, seven anti-aircraft missile systems have been destroyed, including one S-300 near the city of Kramatorsk. Three Bayraktar TB-2 attack unmanned aerial vehicles have been shot down in the suburbs of Chernigov,” the general said.

According to him, since the beginning of the operation, 254 tanks and other armored vehicles, 31 aircraft on the ground, 46 multiple rocket launchers, 103 field artillery and mortars, 164 units of special military vehicles have been destroyed.

I wonder how many times that monument they fired on was counted in those numbers.

Ouch.

j/k! I can’t resist a “fuck the NYT” opportunity. :)

On the one hand, that’s what everyone says when caught saying something unwise.

On the other, Russia does love dirty internet tricks…

But QT3 is more like an aggregate source, like Google News. It is not really a source per se right?

True, I’m counting on smart people working harder and smarter than I want to work.

I’m doomscrolling nonstop, alternating feeds and sources, checking maps, geolocating, stretching my very limited russian… Current facts of historical importance always have that effect on me. Of course there’s a lot of misinformation and openly bonkers stuff being told all the time, but you kinda get a decent real time idea about what’s actually happening.
And I try to get all kind of sources so the BS balances out, though it’s actually quite hard to find decent russian PoVs for now
The actual, official, well verified press is too slow. For example the headline on the main spanish newspaper today was still “BREAKING: Russia enters Kharkhiv” like 8 hours after the incursion had failed.

I keep hitting F5 at the main page of the Washington Post, whining for it to “go faster”, like a spoiled child on a pony ride outside the supermarket.

I’m hopescrolling. I had a very pessimistic view of how this was going to go early on.

Nice, that’s a much better way to do it. I hope your term is justified!

But that’s responsible reporting right? Traditional sources are fact-checked, and they still have a place. Like Putin’s nuclear tantrum, the traditional sources reported it right away, because it is easy to verify.

Man, talk about a target-rich environment. Hope they have air cover.

Sort of? The actual news, at that point, was that Russia had failed to enter Kharkiv; that they’d been repulsed in the attempt.

Yeah, I can’t believe the lack of spacing in that column. They don’t seem to be afraid of anything.

Russian drivers are known for tailgating.

The irony being that the media hardly issues the same restraint when reporting on local crime. They’ll happily parrot whatever the weasel worded police angle is before verifying.

Where is the like button when you need it???

I thought this was a nice ‘explainer’, although it’s a very difficult thing to explain, on Putin’s escalating nuclear threats:
