Those drones don’t carry a large warhead.
That train demands a 2,000 pounder.
It’s full of fuel, though. Unsure the implications to the rest of the cars.
The bad music is the real weapon of war here.
CNN running live Pentagon briefing now. The speaker is trying to push back against the notion that Russia is losing / has lost, or that the Russian army is bungling this. Smart, given that (as he says) we are only 5 days in, and that there is probably a lot of bad to come.
Yeah, who the hell is thinking that? Jeez, it’s this weird instant gratification society.

Or the implications to the tracks?
She’s great! Can she please do some instructional videos for how to get multiplayer to work in Elden Ring?

Extensive movie experience says you stop trains by blowing up the bridge / tunnel. Otherwise they replace the tracks and carry on.

You’re referring to the post on the liveblog here:
Which refers to this radio program:
Yes, thanks. Clearly crap at this. Her pragmatism and clarity are well worth watching. Normally I’d regard this stuff as audience-covering political correctness but it’s really honest and quite a thing.

We already have a treaty that commits us to defend Japan.
So it’s only appropriate to talk about the Ukrainian war in the new language thread, right?
And you have a lot of very good reasons to defend Japan, but I’m saying it doesn’t mean the same when you vote irrational people into office, who will break treaties and destroy relationships on a whim.
I would argue a lot of the same considerations apply to South Korea, but that didn’t stop Trump from threatening them, and confusing the relationship over a few dollars and cents.
NATO is also a no-brainer, most rational people see the value of it, but it doesn’t matter if the person in charge is irrational and self-destructive. NATO was severely compromised during the Trump presidency.
If nothing else, that means it’s a good idea to strengthen the treaties we have, and make them harder to break, as well as thinking a lot more seriously about our own defense as US allies.
(Maybe we should move this to the China thread, that’s Abes motivation. It’s not about Russia or Ukraine)
She is adorable. How does she know what switches to throw, I didn’t see labels?
I assume has plenty of friends around taking videos to keep anyone from shooting at her.
Can I request that folks avoid drawing out unrelated tangents in a large fast-moving thread like this?
Normally, it’s no big deal to decide that a thread wants to be about Gilmore Girls or deep-dish pizza or whatnot after its run its course. And it totally cool to pursue tangents related to the discussion. But please be mindful that when folks sit down to catch up on 150 posts about the conflict in Ukraine, it would be much easier for them to read if 30 of the posts weren’t about an unrelated topic.
Again, I’m not reprimanding anyone and I’m not trying to limit the discussion, since it’s easy enough to untangle and move a tangent. Just trying to make it easier for everyone to follow this thread.

I thought it turned out that video was from some Russian Top Gear-type show, per what someone posted upthread?

Excellent reasonable take and summary of the war so far - quick summary - the Russians assumed quick victory, have been fighting with one hand tied behind their back, and it is going to get a lot worse:
This is a good, thoughtful thread from someone who does Russian military analysis for a living.
Edit: same as the link above from @Grifman but rolled up into a single link.
The author is the Minister of Digital transformation of Ukraine.
How come the US doesn’t have this position occupied by somebody under the age of 30?
Good on delivering. I can’t help but wonder if Elon would do the same for Taiwan…
