What about The Times? I’ve ran into their articles a number of times and discovered after poking about they are owned by the Murdoch’s. Reputable news source or no?

Can someone explain that math to me? I guess perhaps that Q2 makes up a smaller portion of the year than the other quarters, so a 35% contraction there is only a 7% contraction for the year?

I was actually wondering the same thing. I don’t understand their math either.
You should consider The Times, The Daily Telegraph and The Grauniad all on an NYT / W.Post / Le Monde type level.

Good to hear that folks agree on the Guardian. I also check out Al Jazeera and the Washington Post.
Aw, why didn’t they translate the “fucking shit”?
We need to up our profanity game, people.
I feel like a 7% annual decline in the Russian economy might be optimistic in the face of these sanctions and the massive drop in the Ruble, but I did see Goldman Sachs predicting that number yesterday, and they surely know better than I do.
There’s a line where—once crossed—Russians sympathetic to the West and outraged at their Government become outraged at the West and sympathetic to their Government. I’d rather not tread that line. I’m all for punishing the Kremlin as harshly as possible, but we don’t need 100 million Russians to start thinking that we are the enemy. Nor do I want to shut them off from outside sources of news and information.
This sounds a lot like Russia’s claim against Ukraine for courting NATO…
Well, apart from the fact the countries joining NATO asked and wanted to join NATO - NATO didn’t invade them. But otherwise the same, sure ;)
Russia Today becomes Russia Tomorrow, as someone put it:

Sure, proximity is the reason Russia is invading Ukraine instead of Somalia. Doesn’t mean their claim is just, but it explains why they invade one and not the other.
At a certain point to stop a dictator, you need to pile pressure on the citizens tolerating the dictator.
I don’t know if this crosses the line, but we have to be harsh.
As for what a peace looks like, Opinion: What could stop the war - CNN is an idea as to what.
If I was Biden, I’d start telling the Ukranians that something like this is our idea of a negotiated settlement, but Ukraine will not be banned from joining the EU. US support would be based on Ukraine both maintaining military neutrality and making progress towards joining EU.
I do think the Russians would nuke over Crimea- Black Sea access is something that Russia fought for 300 years to get, and I’d be willing to let the two separatist regions be either fully automonous or independent. Basically accept the de facto situation there.
In return, Russia would have to agree to limit force deployment in Western Europa, and the Baltics might have to agree to some limitations as well (but Baltics would remain in NATO and Nuclear protected)
If Russia breaks these rules, sanctions return.
Russia bombing civilians again.
How’s that going in North Korea?

Well, North Korea is different as they are supported externally by China and… um… nevermind.

The Telegraph has gone way downhill over the last 15 years IMO

I appreciate @vyshka creating the 'imagine shit gets even scarier" thread to off ramp all the nuclear exchange let’s mix it up with the Ruskies stuff.
But I immediately muted that thread because everything that is happening is terrifying enough for me without indulging in nightmare scenarios.
Some of you have a much higher tolerance for freaking yourselves out.
Bombing apartment buildings because?
