There have been videos posted reportedly from different regions of Russia where you can see train loads of crap heading out somewhere.

Yep. I know a lot of Russian immigrants to America (ranging from people who escaped the Soviet Union, to those who came over right after the fall, to a few born after the fall). A majority of them are from the area around Odessa or western Ukraine in general (i.e. outside the Pale of settlement). They’d usually self identify as Russian, until recently. First when asked “where you were born” it was always “Russia”, then just “Odessa”, in the last year or so “Odessa, in Ukraine” maybe qualifying “back when it was the Soviet Union”.

More from TASS’s Telegram.

The largest trading networks are asking to be allowed to limit the sale of a number of goods with a minimum margin to one person in order to fight dealers, the Ministry of Industry and Trade reported.

Cases have been recorded when socially significant goods were purchased in larger quantities than needed for private consumption, the department noted.

Or simpler translation, people are already hoarding goods.

I assume someone’s made the joke about how Putin is really bringing every aspect of the Soviet Union back.

A lot of Putin’s public support (which he still has) is from the people who still remember what things were like before him, with horrible corruption, poor living standards, ancient technology, and just an overall bad experience for those not in the elites.

He created a middle class, (as well as some very rich elites) and a lot of people credit him for the stability and growth that Russia has had.

Making things hard for the everyday Russian will probably erode that goodwill.

I’ve seen similar reports from legitimate news sources. Putin is pulling forces from the Far East and sending them to Ukraine.

Related reporting from NPR correspondent. Ukraine definitely coming together as a community to face Russia.

At this point, if China or Japan decided to start taking Russian territory in the east, they might get support.

All this talk of tires had be thinking about if large caltrops would be effective. Glad to see those in the inventory.

I think Putin will be running on the “Make Soviet Union Great Again” slogan. MSUGA has a nice ring to it.

Maybe they can license Back in the USSR from the Beatles catalog for the new anthem.

Seriously. If the Japanese ever wanted to get serious about reclaiming the disputed Sakhalin islands – or hell, the whole shebang – now seems to be the time.

It’s all fun and games until the missiles start flying!

Pronounced meshuggah?

I lasted all of 5 hours without cheking the news. I’m getting hopeful. I’m probably terribly wrong.

  • Bellingcat dude says Russia only has resources to keep going like this until Sunday. Hard to believe, but it’s Bellingcat dude.
  • Some of the pics of Russian losses are mindbending, like they are just blindly driving ahead to get obliterated. There was this convoy destroyed in Hostomel with a blue civilian truck with the inverted v mark on it. A blue trailer spearheading the assault on Kiyv.
  • I saw video of the russian reinforcements on the way: Tanks that look in almost worse shape than the ones already hit by an ATGM sitting in a flatbed in Vladivostok, so like a week away at least.
  • Those cities that have fallen in the south are worrying, but it also seems like an invitation to overextend and then getting your supply lines hit by the guys that have let you go by.
  • The fast crackdown on all kinds of media and harsh speech prosecution in Russia reeks of desperation. You wouldn’t give a damn about facebook if you were winning.
  • Also re. the above, almost looks like preparation for declaring “mission acomplished” and gaslightling the russian people while starting negotiations from an extremely weak position.

I also read the ACOUP article about protracted wars @mikej linked, which is a great read.

Future me will probably grimace re-reading this.

I feel similarly and hope you’re right.

Also, I don’t see how an invasion force of, what - 170K army men, is supposed to subdue and occupy a nation as large as the Ukraine. Maybe there is more to Pootin’s plan, but this seems like a huge hole.

It’s not really bad until Putin fires someone.

From a cannon.

Except he didn’t. It was on it’s way to forming before he took over.
