If anyone ever posts a “Buckle up” tweet and then says “shit got real” about the tweet, it would be the perfect storm. My fists would just be blurs at human vision’s 30fps.

Another Q for @alekseivolchok and @Valambrian : The whole “иди на хуй” thing had me wondering, is there difference in when that would be used versus “иди в пизду” ? Does the gender of the person saying it, or to whom it is being said matter? I really should spend time studying Russian again. Lots forgotten after 25 years.
That’s really a nice way of explaining the situation. On Facebook, some friends and I were describing our experiences in Russia, the horrible food, black market exchanges for rubles and how Marlboros and jeans were the currency of choice in the 1980s and early 90s.
The oligarchs are actually an improvement over the Russian mobs, Russians actually have access to western consumer goods, media and the internet. From a European or American view the economy and the government are still really fucked up, but compared to before. Putin’s Russia is an improvement.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no difference. The first phrase is used much more often, but that’s it. It can be humorously described as “a walking tour in an erotic context”.

I’d say a disappointing and boring answer is that in this case there’s no difference. Feminine expression is rarely used but I’d say it’s not defined by gender and there’s no difference in the strength of emotion.
Edit: ah, @Valambrian strikes first again.

Thanks. I figured there wasn’t really a difference, but you hear the other much less.
Interesting article. I thought the last part was particularly interesting.
A different person Rustamova described as “a good acquaintance of Putin’s” said the Russian president’s mood had gotten worse.
“Here he is in a state of being offended and insulted,” the source said. “It’s paranoia that has reached the point of absurdity.”
If Putin is making decisions in that state of mind who knows where we could end up. It sounds like he is pretty much the sole decision maker and he may be ignoring his generals. Or they may be too afraid to say anything except what he wants them to. Where have we seen this before?

So give Russia half of what it wants, and a license to invade again when ready, basically.
Russia broke it’s security guarantees to Ukraine. Russia’s word is worthless. Even suggesting an agreement including such guarantees is an insult and a joke.
If Ukraine needs to make territorial concessions to end the war then it should make them, within reason, but the only thing it can get in return is a meaningful security guarantee, and the only meaningful security guarantee is NATO membership.
It’s hard to know about these counts, but this is an attempt to account for Russian equipment losses since the start of the invasion. They’re counting only those losses for which there is photographic verification. They include links to the photos for every loss they’re counting.

I have to imagine the losses are higher than what was photographed. But just going off of the photographed numbers, that seems like… a lot.
It’s going to cost a lot to replace all that. How are they going to do so with a devastated economy? The longer the war goes on, the more degraded their armed forces will become.

That’s my hope, that the fierce resistance of Ukrainians combined with the sanctions will give Russia no choice but to withdraw.
That’s an excellent point. They should go for that.

From the FWIW department:
I think it’s shocking. No way they were expecting this kind of war.
