Well our newspaper didn’t report this, and Trumps son has been out saying to stop the funding of Ukranie in general… They reported that support to Ukranie is causing a divide in USA thats pretty deep.
Perhaps our newspapers are wrong, I am not just pulling numbers out of my ass, but I can’t link cause they are Norwegian and behind paywalls. Also, these are serious newspapers, that I trust.
Also, to reply to some people earlier about where I got the 1-1,2 million number from.
Its simply the number of troops Russia will need in addition to what they already got to win the war in Ukraine… nothing more or less, 300k won’t do.
I don’t have that backed up by anything else so feel free to dismiss it.
Ah I see the problem. You took something a Trump said as a representative position of a general populace.
You’re not pulling any numbers at all!
Oh ok.
I need 10 million dollars. Nothing more nothing less.

If you recall, Trump was impeached and a big part of that scandal was blackmailing Ukraine and trying to withhold military aid. Then there’s the whole Trump campaign colluding with Russia thing. Needless to say, the Trump family pushing Putin’s agenda shouldn’t be surprising to anyone.
I’m absolutely hoping this war is done by 2024 or that Europe has been able to step up even more because Trump possibly winning in 2024 is a very scary prospect for Ukraine.

Just some anecdotal data, but supporting anything that smells of being Russia is verboten in the primarily republican controlled county I live in. It got so bad my son starting going off on how much he hated russians, so I had to temper that. Which is a good thing, because shortly afterwards a new kid from Russia showed up in his class and I know he was having a hard time being ignored and shunned. Thankfully that looks to be resolved or mostly so in a positive fashion.
Lots of pro trump families, but even they don’t swallow his party line in regards to Russia.
This is simply the divide between MAGA Republicans and liberals. It has nothing to do with Ukraine.

Edit: Also reading this made me realize the best solution is probably shit like this:
Poland was making a variant until the late 80’s as was Finland. It’s an old Soviet weapon that’s basically everywhere. Just surrounding Kyiv with a bunch of old ZSU-23-2’s would probably slap down a ton of them. It’s certainly better than massed small arms fire and it doesn’t require inventing a thing that doesn’t exist like lasers.
Heck Finland seems to have fairly modern version of it in service near as I can tell. Some vehicle mounted, some not.

Could be accident, or could be manpad then.

Yep. Similarly pretty deep red area and still see plenty of Ukrainian flags displayed. Never have seen anything pro-Russia. Not aware of anyone campaigning on stopping support to Ukraine either. Not to mention that Republican leadership in congress remains pretty strongly in support of Ukraine from everything I’ve seen.
As much as certain corners of the right would like to make this a divisive issue it’s not exactly catching on quickly with the base.
“Yeysk” sounds like how I respond in the affirmative to something that I either would rather not do or foresee significant difficulty in accomplishing.
Client: “Chris, if we get this screener into the field today, do you think we could run our session in just two days?”
Me: (Resignedly, and sort of distracted by all the things likely to go wrong in that scenario) “…Yeysk…”

“But for the last time can you tell me where that Russian plane went down, yes or no?!”
“…Yeysk…”
“You obtuse bastard, you’re fired”
And yet, as @ImaTarget points out, support for Ukraine continues to rise.
No, I don’t like to pretend that. But I could point out that Germany - unsurprisingly - is interested in cheap energy, like pretty much every other industrialized nation on earth, and that Russia is one of the world’s largest exporters of oil and gas, behind only Saudi Arabia and a few others. But there clearly isn’t much point in trying to argue against your irrational hatred of Germany and its politicians.
Both Moscow and Moscow Province stopped mobilization. Here’s your great Russian horde, seems they didn’t get those 300k they planned.

Burning Crimea Bridge is no longer the perfect metaphor representing this war.
