I don’t remember the first one that well and never played 2, but what 3 has are these ambition points. Basically, the game gives you both minor and major goals and you can have 4 active at one time. The goals you haven’t picked do go away after a very little time, so you have to be thoughtful. these goals range from throw a party, kiss this one, to do better at work, increase a skill, buy something new, etc. When you complete these goals you get the points to spend on these uber abilities that can really change your Sim - better bladder, don’t need to eat that much, better at throwing parties, etc. These REALLY help at giving you direction in the game. You’ll get new choices for goals every day that you can ignore, or use to replace other goals in your ‘que’ that you figure are too hard/uninteresting to complete.
But ultimately, it was the story of my Sim that became fascinating. And how if you start off single, you can get married and now you’ve got two Sims you can run; I found decorating the place VERY interesting; though this fears me alot, the game has limited amounts of stuff, like say 7 couches to choose from, and all I could think was…hmmm… there must be some DLC to get so I have a better variety, because I don’t see anything I like here. Thankfully, I didn’t have an internet connection while I’ve been playing, or else I could totally see me going into the ingame DLC store and grabbing a ‘few’ items.
Oh, and you can also buy into business’. I don’t know how extensive, since I only had enough to become a partner. This meant I invested 7,000 into the book store and once a week I went to collect 1,000 as my cut. The tutorial said you CAN become the sole owner if you buy into it enough, and that you would have more control over the operation of the store, but I don’t know what nor how it works. But there is ALOT to explore in the base game alone.

PS. How do I use the basement tool? I had no basement in my little home. Also, are there any interesting DLC packages that are good? Do the expansions come with more house decorating items? Towns? Etc?
Oh yes, every expansion adds Stuff.
There is a ton of DLC in the way of furniture, clothing, hairstyles and whatnot on the official site. The store has a smattering of free items. There is also an exchange for user-created content - houses, sims, etc.
There is also an entire town map you are allowed to download just for registering the game (registering the games and expansions also gives you credit to use in the store). EA has also done some tie-ins with T-Mobile and the like for free stuff. I seem to recall there’s a few cars available for free.
EDIT: Post 50! I can give you some links!

People are making plenty of great content for free, if you’re feeling inclined.

So I have two copies of Ambitions ($20 dealies, thanks Qt3 for the heads-up), one through EA and one through Impulse.
How do I link the Impulse version of the game to my daughter’s EA account? I can install the game on her machine under my own Impulse account if I want to, but I don’t know how that will impact things as her existing Sims 3 + World Adventures installation was installed via EADM and I’m concerned about breaking something. (I really wish Impulse would have offered me the download option.)
The EA copy that I’ve already downloaded is currently linked to my own EA account, and I don’t plan to play it until 2011 or so when I have time for The Sims 3 again.

is a long running joke on the forum about new members, back from when Tom first let a ton of new people in.
In other words, Pogo is congratulating you ;)
Oh, what a silly bunt. I’ve actually been a lurker for many years (!) and just didn’t pick up on that.
When the Sims 3 first came out, I didn’t like it much. I had been bred for the series on the Sims 2 (and every last one of its expansions), and the Sims 3, while naturally very similar, requires some changes to my micro-managing play style. It was World Adventures that really taught me how to play the game - as in, relax and let the character handle some of it. Nothing bad will happen. :)
I have discovered that I have a much easier time of it if I only play a single Sim at a time. With all the new interactive careers and such, I always feels like I’m neglecting someone if I have more than one character around. I am still a micro-manager at heart, after all. :)
Yes, I have started following and controlling just one sim. Even after they have a family, I concentrate on seeing the game through just the life and experiences of the one sim.
In fact I picked my latest sim when she was just a toddler, and I didn’t even control her parents, so it was luck whether they looked after her well or not. It meant she got at least one random trait to make her more interesting to play.

That’s an interesting idea.
reinstalls Sims 3
Hey, you can do that? Cool! (I’ll try not to think about the Sim whose messed-up life will be chronicled by Roburky…)
Now, is there any way to export a completed Sim back into the character generator?

By the way, I’ve seen some rumours that Late Night will include a “plastic surgery” option, allowing us to edit the appearance of sims in the game. Does anyone know whether this is correct? If it is, I would buy the whole EP just for that one feature alone (once I know it will work properly, that is).

I am not too sure what you mean by the ‘character generator’, but you can save a completed Sim to your library (click on the button at bottom left to get the option) and it will come up as a stock character that you can select and edit further if you want and/or put into any household that are you creating.

Do this game support modding?
Heres some dugggestions ( I have mixed the word drugs and the word suggestions ):
- Zombies Mod: is dangerous to get outside at night
- Dwarf Fortress Mod: you can dig, theres gold, adamantium, rare metals and monsters.
- Silverberg Mode: All the characters are from differents planets, and his rooms are actually portalized on his home planet, so traveling from room to room move you trought the whole universe.
- Dungeon Keeper mod: buy enhancements for your house, and never pay for then!, defend your house with traps and mosters from people reclaiming back his money|stuff.
- IT: some of the inhabitants is IT, better find it out quickly and burn him.
No unfortunately. The lack of modding and mod support is one of the great failures of the entire “The Sims” series.
There’s modding of a sort, but certainly nothing like what one might imagine when talking about computer games.
Seriously mate, at least proof read your posts before you post them up.
