Uh, yeah.

I was kidding. There are mods for damn near anything in all three sims games.

My density knows no bounds.

:giggle!:

I suppose it should be possible to create a mod, or a town, based on World Adventures, where mummies roam the streets each night, so that you’re constantly fighting them, possibly getting cursed in the process. Maybe somebody already did?

The Dwarf Fortress mod is called Ambitions (you can invent a digging machine).

I would certainly love to see a mod create more economic and simulation elements. That’s the sort of stuff I haven’t seen much of. Mostly it seems it’s just people adding in teen woohoo and male pregnancy.

There was one that added in new careers, including a mafia track that I understood to have family rivalries and recruiting, but it bugged out my game when I’d added World Adventures, so I didn’t get to see how that played out …

Factional intrigue seems like it’d be such a great fit for the game.

Well if we keep praying, one day there may be an expansion pack that allows us to deal with sims in one household as individuals with their own income and savings :) I think there is a mod for it already - there has been in each incarnation - but it’s much more piecemeal and tricky to administer than something designed in from the start.

The way I’d implement it is that each sim keeps their own earnings automatically, but the game takes a fair share of each family member’s savings each time there is a household expense such as a bill. Purchased items remain the property of the sim who was selected at the time the purchase was made, and the purchase is made from their personal funds. When a sim moves out from the household, you get the option to let them take their own furniture or leave it behind. Finally, every sim would have an option upon themselves to make one-off or regular payments to another sim. This could be used to emulate such things as child support or rent.

This will put the selected character in CAS mode. You can give people nose jobs for example.

Install MATY
Open console (Control Shift C)
type “editsim”

Read the txt included, IIRC you should not edit fatness from the create-a-sim.

Thanks guys. Played around a bit tonight, didn’t see any option (in the base game) to export a Sim from a family which I had already created, and who was waiting to be moved into a house, back into “Create a Sim”. (That was what I was after - sorry for the confusion!)

I’ll take a look at the mods next time.

Regarding personal finances, I believe the mod involved a personal object, essentially a money bag, that allowed you to invest into it and extract from it.

Perhaps a slider menu to determine what portion of the bills each person pays.

I never played the apartment one - how did that handle the issue? Or was it just University dorm-style singleplayer?

You’re quite right - the base game does not allow for this. The only way to do it is to use one of the custom mods that are available - MATY’s ‘Awesome’ mod and Twallan’s ‘Master Controller’ are the only ones I know of. These are very extensive mods, though, and I am nervous about putting them into my game.

I do feel that the inability to edit the appearance of existing sims is a serious shortcoming and one that I am sincerely hoping EA will remedy before too long - hence my post above about the possibility of a ‘plastic surgery’ facility being included in the Late Night EP.

Aha, thanks for the clarification, madking. In my case, I’m pretty happy with the Sim’s appearance - but I devoutly wish I’d saved her in chargen, in case I want to mix up her family members, age her up/down and give her parents or dependents, etc. :)

You can do it, Mind Elemental, but you have to move the sim into a house first, and it’s not very obvious how to do it. Take your sim to a mirror and choose to change appearance. You should then be able to click on the menu button on your character’s portrait to save a copy of them.

When you next go to create a family, you can find your character amongst the premade sims. It’s the button with six silhouettes at the bottom right of the create a sim screen.

I find it’s a good idea to save each sim in this way before you finalise a family, in case you want to come back and redo the family later.

It was rather strange. Each apartment lot was like 4 lots, all with the same building layout, geographically superimposed on each other. So that was a maximum of 4 playable households and if you had more than 4 apartments on the lot, the remaining occupants were sort of NPCs. You had to reload the lot if you wanted to change to playing another household living there.

So income-wise it was still one fund per household.

Just a heads up that will, I am sure, come up in the bargain thread…

There is a one day sale tomorrow on Sums 3 and 2 and many of the expansions at Gamersgate (link to the Sims page where, I assume, the markdowns will show up whenever tomorrow starts over there).

My newsletter says these will be the deals:

Friday
The Sims 3 - 50%
The Sims 3 World Adventure - 60%
The Sims 2 Double Deluxe - 60%
Spore - 60%

Thanks, Roburky – you’re a lifesaver!

We had a potluck break at work today to welcome a new staff member. As we stood around eating, a woman in the department told us about a fascinating story she had found on the internet. It was about two homeless Sims.

Yeah, I was going through Alice and Kev again last night. You know Rob I really think that when people look back that will be held up as one of the roots of the “player as artist” movement that I believe will be a strong influence on the medium as we go forward.

Great great work.

That work is really great, I hope there’s more paths to do this in the future. I was kind bummed about the heavy car influence in the last patch. I’d much rather see a new trait like, “Obsessive Compulsive”, or more fear-based ones (Claustrophobia for one would be great) _ but couple it with many (not just one) types of reactions that dovetail into other unique actions. I think evil trickster would also be cool. A kid who goes around blowing up mailboxes, spray-painting peoples houses, shooting people with pellet gun, breaking windows, and doing donuts in people lawns.

I also hope they can change the trait limit so we can add one to each family member, but have it working flawlessly like the current system We’re always just ONE TRAIT SHORT of making our perfect crazy neighbor.

Well one thing that has been almost too long coming - at least our sims will soon be able to get drunk - or a near equivalent :)

They will? Where did you read this?
