True, it was not exactly scintillating with wit. I really meant it more as a passing comment.

On a more interesting note, has anyone tried the Late Night expansion yet? What do you think of it?

Didn’t see a separate topic for the console versions due out today… Anyone picking up those versions? I’m picking up the 360 version, not sure if I’ll open before Christmas or gift it to my daughter. I’m really curious to see how the online exchange stuff works.

Console version on pre-order from Amazon, so should be arriving tomorrow.

Annoying to have that and the latest real Sims 3 game (the new expansion) come out on the same day though. :(

Well, hell, I’d somehow forgotten just how much Sims expansions are priced at release. Those excellent sales lulled my consumer indignation into a cozy sleep while drawing me back into investing in my old characters. And the improvements of Late Night seemed compelling enough that I was ready to choke down the release price.

But forty bucks? It’s not exactly much over, but thirty bucks seems plenty fair to me, and I just can’t justify going over that - certainly not with an already-crowded season.

It also doesn’t seem to be on Direct2Drive or any other download site at all - what’s up with that? I recall seeing D2D plastered with Ambitions on launch.

Edit: OK, nevermind it’s there - I’d searched earlier and there seemed to be no mention of it …

I picked up Late Night yesterday and played around a bit with a new sim in Bridgeport. It’s sort of Kudos-y, and I mean that in a very complimentary way. The social status goals are really friggin’ hard when you’re starting with a brand new sim but I’m really enjoying it. I can’t wait to see how it translates to my more established sims in the 'burbs.

As far as the vampires are concerned, meh. At least they don’t sparkle.

I didn’t realize Late Night was out yet. Can you build new downtown buildings? There’s an oddly shaped, blue and green plastic restaurant down the road from my neighborhood that I’d like to try to replicate.

You can make community lots in downtown, same as usual.

Welp, thanks to last weekend’s $19.99 sale, I took a chance that it would run passably well on my computer and that enough had changed since the original to make me more interested. So far, I am batting 100%. Married a Thug, got her pregnant and had her quit her job and both before our old people “birthdays”.

So far, it seems far more interesting than the first. That probably goes without saying, but I am saying it anyhow!

Definitely looking fwd to playing some Late Night, but I’m hooked on the Sims 3 console version too. I hope some of the expansions are headed to it…

This is most likely a question that has been answered 100 times over since The Sims has been around for so long, but that has never stopped me before…

How much micromanaging do you all do as your family grows? I kinda like starting one character from scratch.

As much or as little as you want. Sims 3 Sims tend to not self destruct if you aren’t managing them every step of the way but if you want to, the game allows you too.

I guess I am just afraid to let the poor bastards go on their own. Probably how I will do with my own kids.

I will search the thread from here on on out. The damn game has kept me from doing my workout a couple of times this week. How the hell am I going to get my RL Lifetime Achievement if I let a game get in the way? Isn’t their a Logic/Athlete one? I totally have the Logic one maxed.

Dying is kind of traumatic. I am so going over heavily trod ground with my posts. Move along.

No worries. New folks find the Sims all the time. Particularly with the recent sales.

It’s usually interesting to read fresh takes on the game, so don’t hesitate to share your experiences.

Welcome aboard! 8)

TONS. I am far too Type A to even let my characters make their own decisions about when to pee.

Skipper would probably have a lot to say on this subject. (Edit: In fact, I’m pretty sure he already has earlier in the thread.)

Sadly, I still can’t make myself let go of the mouse when playing Sims games. I’ve tried many times but always end up caving at some point because I want to see them “succeed”. I wonder if anyone has written up a good detailed guide on how to just let go and let your Sims be Sims.

I don’t think I am even letting mine pee and shower efficiently as I want them proactively clean and voided.

EDIT: So, what I have found out from this thread early in my reading, the micro transaction talk ends and the game talk begins at around page 16. Coincidentally, insanity as it relates to Sims 3 in depth analysis begins at about that same time.

EDIT II: I did just have my 99 year old, widowed, x-thug mom of one tour the mausoleum. She came out blackened with her hair looking like an elderly woman’s shower cap. My 9 and 4 year old were watching. They immediately got creeped out (seriously they did) and their moods went down by -15 for 10 minutes. [rimshot] The 4 year old ran in to tell her mom all the gory details. My wife thinks all three of us are nerds now.

Can’t wait to open the 360 version on Christmas morning. Here’s hoping it is a decent version.

So, there are only two save spots?

So, there is no instruction manual in the download version?

I’d ask about the iPhone version, but then my battery would constantly be on 10% and I would never work.

Unless they changed something in the latest expansion, Save As should allow as many saves as you want. I used to run many backups because of all the persistent corruption/crash issues (pretrip, post trip, etc)

I don’t know about Iphone version, but Android version on G1 had poor performance and interface. I couldn’t play it for very long before giving up.
