There’s a lot of user-created victorian, I’d have to check on steampunk though, although I think it pretty likely.
edit: there’s some stuff here and here off the top of my head, I’m sure there’s plenty more out there. If you do a search at My Sims 3 Blog (the best place to find new interesting stuff,) there’s about 10 pages of hits.

I am constantly amazed by the creativity of the people in the Sims community. Seriously, people in the games industry should take notice, I have seen some pretty incredible character modeling and world design out there.
Here’s an example. I was tooling around, looking for some interesting clothing, when I run across not only a Pyramid Head Sim, but some russian out there has made an entire Silent Hill Neighborhood.
/shakes head.

Anyone get Pirates and Nobles and is it worth $80 if you like the period but are not a huge Sims 3 fan?

Pirates and Nobles is actually an expansion for The Sims Medieval, not The Sims 3.
I personally enjoyed Sims Medieval though, so I’ll be trying it out. But I’m assuming it’s going to be more of that gameplay, with new “missions”, so to speak.
EDIT: Sorry if I misunderstand your post - I wanted to be clear that you know which game it’s an expansion for.

Yeah I just assumed that Medieval was more of Sims 3. I don’t hate the Sims game play of course, but I do get bored with the house/neighborhood job stuff. I was just wondering how the Pirates and Nobles was implemented. Is there some adventure to it?

Yeah you should check the Sims Medieval thread for more better impressions.
I really just want to build a castle and a medieval neighborhood.

I’d love an actual sim about a medieval kingdom, just tweaking, watching people go about their lives, building a world kind of stuff.
Stronghold 3 is probably going to be close to what we want. I read that they are going to include a mode where you can turn off battles and just build the town.

My sister has assured me that the Stronghold games have been released as nearly unplayable buggy in the past. I won’t them off completely, but I am hesitant to get my hopes up.
They have been. However I will remain forever hopeful until it comes out and proves otherwises.

You can actually do that in the sims, it just requires researching a lot of custom content.

So very true. Not to mention of course that a man’s/woman’s home is his/her castle.
That was really what I liked with The Sims was the home design bits and pieces. I couldn’t really care about the neighbourly interaction, but I did like the idea of earning money to build a house, and convert it into the ultimate bachelor pad. Something so much harder to do in real life.

One of the fun things that Ambitions added was the architect career – your sim gets to modify/design other townspeople’s houses.
I found it more difficult to do in The Sims 3 than real life! I couldn’t even afford a kitchen table to eat at. At least my Sim no longer cleans bed pans for a living.

What I do in The Sims 3 is to slow the aging of my sims. I think normal speed they become old after a few weeks, whereas I set my gamespeed to the marathon style (I think it is marathon) so that the Sims still get a chance to stuff around, take leave, build up some money and do what they want. The end result is that while they are still youngish, they have plenty more time to reach the top of their career (and the top dollars).
Yeah, a recent patch allowed you to extend each part of a Sim’s life further than before so my Sim will remain a young adult awhile longer and hopefully manage a few more pieces of furniture before he hits the retirement home.
Of course, it could be that I’m playing all wrong but for a guy with a mostly unfurnished little dump he seems pretty happy.

There’s no such thing as playing The Sims wrongly is there?
Of course, I can not quite understand why a sim would get terribly excited about a brand new poster that I purchased for a boring section of wall, and feel a need to examine it for half the day.
Or why in a husband/wife setting I toyed around with, the husband would sleep peacefully whilst the wife was outside his bedroom window rocking out with a guitar at 3 in the morning.
Yep, you can not possibly play this game wrong.
Also Athryn, Ambitions was my favourite expansion, though I’ve yet to try the Architect profession. Hopefully when I get a better computer I’ll dive back into the Sims again and try it out.

I thought it worth mentioning that thanks to you guys and this forum, for the next few months I’m going to be working on another Sims story. But instead of glorified forum posts, this time it’s taking the form of a professionally produced series of videos funded by Channel 4.
It’ll be properly announced in a week or two, at which point I should have some links to share. It is exciting and scary, and I wanted to thank all of you who shared the Alice and Kev link around and enabled me to get paid for doing this kind of thing.
