The Sims 4

I really liked how the Sims 3 did away with fixed lot boundaries. Visiting other houses was something I always wanted to do in the Sims 2.

Have we seen any actual gameplay on this? Not canned “camera right up the nose ultra close-in shots” of gameplay footage, but actual people playing the game from the camera perspective you would normally be playing, with the UI and interacting with a mouse cursor type of gameplay? It seems weird we are this close to release and I still don’t know how the game will play nor what most of its features look like. I’m tempted to invest in some Sims 3 expansions and get into that over Sims 4 at this point, just because they are on sale right now and Sims 4 has be a bit worried.

I’m sure EA won’t deliberately omit features in order to include them in the expansions. They would never do something like that, especially now that they’ve had three series to get it right.

Seriously though, it’s too bad they won’t sell a fairly expensive preorder-only package that includes all the major expansions instead of gradually squeezing all the money they can out of loyal fans.

No, all they’ve really shown is the character creation, which does look awesome, and some building tools. Wait for reviews. :)

These are officially out of the game until expansions:

  • Toddlers
  • Pools
  • Create a Texture
I have a feeling this list is going to get a LOT longer.
  • Of course we have very small cities ala Simcity because they didn’t want to use current computer technology.

EA/Maxis is surely experimenting with just how stripped down they can make a game yet wring every last cent out of people. The forums are literally on fire and there’s still no real gameplay video. Way to go EA!

… but … but … how will we drown our Sims?

Toddlers and pools are out? What the hell. Unless I’m grossly mistaken pools have been standard since Sims 1, and toddlers since Sims 2. IIRC in 1 they never evolved beyond pods. Just looked it up, I was partially right. Toddler started in 2, but in 1 they jumped from baby to child.

I pre-ordered the last two sims games, and bought several expansions for each. I’ve seen nothing to make me want this one.

That’s correct. Pools have always been part of the base game. Toddlers have been part of the base game since 2. “Create a texture” was standard in Sims 3.

They’re definitely going overboard on the “milk the expansions” strategy. Even for a Sims game, where that’s always been extreme.

Didn’t one of the versions leave out hot tubs once. I’ve lost track, but I am not surprised at all the EA just keeps stripping the base games so they can sell more DLC.

I don’t believe hot tubs were in the base Sims 3 game, I seem to recall they were added with one of the stuff packs. But Sims 4 is just sounding worse by the day.

I’m getting the urge to reinstall 3, so I’ll check.

The base game of the Sims 4: One character, one home, one emotion; everything else will be DLC

Now confirmed - no basements. You’ve got to be &$#^*$ing kidding me.

Well, that’s the straw, right there. I keep seeing Sims 3 for sale and I only have ever played the base game, so the next time it goes on sale again, I’ll pick up the base game again (I have it on Origin right now) and some expansions and just play that instead.

Any suggestions for the top … let’s say 3 expansions? Must have expansions?

It keeps getting worse! Teens, young adults, adults, elderly are all the EXACT SAME HEIGHT. We were led to believe there would finally be great customization in sizes but that is only for butts, boobs, and bellies.

Bleedthefreak: Seasons, Ambitions are must have. After that I’d say Generations, Supernatural & Into the Future. The rest is bleh which add very little value and wish I could get my money back from them. For Store content I enjoy the following worlds: Lunar Lakes, Midnight Hollow, and Dragon Valley. Venue: Prism Art Studio. Sets: Atomic Age, Futureshock, Steampunk, and Fairie Folk Life.

Is there anyone that honestly expects EA to NOT screw up Sims 4 somehow? What’s interesting to me is how relatively low key this release is and what that reflects. Inquisitor seems to be getting more hype time than Sims 4.

Being a big Sims fan, I believe I will be passing on Sims 4.

I have Sims 3 and most of the expansions and enjoy it quite a bit.

I have one Sim, Mad Mary Mordred, that I have saved on a flash drive, that’s years old. (She has all skills maxed and has done just about every job.)

Haven’t seen anything in 4 to interest me, and seeing less and less in this thread.

Thanks Jeff, I very much appreciate it. If I see the Sims 3 hit a main page or flash sale again, I’ll jump on your recommendations - it’s been years since I played Sims 3 (at launch, in fact) and I haven’t dived in since, but I really liked it quite a lot and I’m sure it’s grown leaps and bounds since. I was for some reason thinking I’d be happier with the “new” Sims game, but it sounds like, at least for the foreseeable future, I will probably have more fun simmin’ it up with what is already available!

After the smashing success of the latest Sim City I’m preordering the hell out of this!
