Yup, seems like it was done randomly or based on some mysterious criteria. I think your hours played as a medic might have something to do with it.
There’s also a program that will unlock the achievements, btw.
I spent about two hours gaming them last night and got like 34 of them. Unfortunately, some of them (like second opinion) appear to be completely broken for me and I can’t unlock them for whatever reason.
I’m guessing that there isn’t going to be a next time, at least because of this particular oversight.
Also, I can’t seem to get Second Opinion either, and I’d love to hear how other people did it. I know how to swap ubers across people, it just isn’t triggering the achievement for some reason.

If it’s not triggering for you, I think it’s just bugged. Basically you just want to switch ubers between two people so that they’re both got the uber “coating” at the same time. At least, when I saw some dude get the achievement, that’s exactly what he did.
For Second Opinion, just keep switching back and forth between the two people.
When I first tried to get it (doing the obvious Uber one person, switch to the next), it didn’t count for the achievement for some reason. Later, I just did the same thing but went between them rapidly (uber the Pyro, switch to the Soldier, switch back to the Pyro, back to the Soldier, etc.) and the achievement kicked in.
Any interest in having a bit of a Medic Achievement Clinic before Friday’s Qt3 TF2 game? I was thinking to start at maybe 9 or 930 pm, and basically try to run through as many achievements as possible.
I’ve heard quite a few people say that if you have the toggle “one click” heal on in options that it won’t work. Some have said they shut that off and got Second Opinion the next time they tried.
Sure, I’ll make sure the server is up and running early too. We should maybe password protect it during that time, yes?
TF2 wouldn’t load after the medic update, but mysteriously worked fine after they released the no console cheat update. I missed the full force of medic horror earlier so I’ll see if I can get on the server early.
During normal play sessions, I’m trying not to play as medic at all, to counteract the recent lopsidedness – someone’s gotta be last to get the achievements, right? It was nice, though, that when I did play a medic for about five minutes last night, I obtained my Chief of Staff (1M heal points) achievement. Legit, baby, yeah.
If I can make it in time, I’ll volunteer to be a CPR doll for the Clinic. Injury, healing, death, revival… I’ll cooperate. Can we try to get some of the moronic goals out of the way first, like the punching one?
The main thing that is keeping me from playing for the last few days is that the defense team is completely crippled by the medic inbalance. Offense benefits, but once an ubered heavy breaks through, you have a pisspot of dead medics waiting to respawn while a ton of ubered etc. is sitting on the point.
Conservatively, I’d say that the defending team needs 1/2 of the medics that the attacking team needs. Demo juggling and pre-uber-popping are too critical to lose.

I think it’s just that your stats don’t always save. When I got Sentry Gunner, with 13 Sentry kills, I got the achievement fine but my stats still showed 9 as my most ever. If they’d done this reset then, I bet I would have lost the achievement, because my stats suggested I shouldn’t have it.
Luckily I’ve had a 13-killer register on my stats since.
Yeah, that was my thought - to get through some of the more ridiculous ones, and hopefully reduce the impulse to do achievement related things while actually playing the game.
Malphigian - I’ve set up the game under Steam, if you want to set a password (not a bad idea, at least while we’re grinding achievements), feel free to edit it into the steam event.
I’m in for the achievement clinic. Just for the really silly achievements:
Consultation: Assist a fellow Medic in killing 5 enemies in a single life
You’ll Feel a Little Prick: Assist in killing 3 enemies with a single ÜberCharge on a Scout.
Blunt Trauma: Assist in punching 2 enemies with a single ÜberCharge on a Heavy.
Family Practice: ÜberCharge ten of your Steam Community Friends.
Everything else is feasible over time and non-conducive to poor teamplay.
It’s amazing to me how effective melee really is though. During these bonesaw medic spam days, i see mostly-medic teams really owning a team of randomly assorted standard classes. Mass melee attacks just chop right through.
The bonesaw really is very good at close range. Trying to hit 5 times in a row without missing is very difficult though, since the victims are either dead, dodging, or shooting back after about the third hit.
Anyone got a link to a guide on administrating a TF2 server? I really could use one.

In one of those “I-wish-I-had-video-of-this” moments, I just had a marathon medic run on Stage 2 where I stayed alive for 11 minutes, had 7 Ubercharges and got 10,073 healing points, just barely picking up the 7000 and 10000-heal achievements and making me the proud owner of a Blutsauger. :)

As a further bit of Steam weirdness, TF2 is no longer listed as an available game to schedule an event. I’ve put the May 9th listing up, but don’t be confused where it says TF Classic. Odd.
