Well, crap. I can’t make the practice session on Saturday night.

I’ve become pretty good as a sniper (which most of the POE guys can agree with), overall I’m good with every class except for demo and spy.

I’m a heavy / medic player. As a heavy, I try to deal death to any pyros who dare show their heads. As a medic, I try to stay alive and run away from grenadiers and pyros.

Crane has the admin pw.

Jab is definitely an annoying sniper; he has no respect for the Qt3 tag. Ape shall not kill ape my ass.

Prefer: pyro, demo, or spy. No problem playing engi or medic either.

In a pinch, I can play heavy, scout, or soldier, but they’re probably better left to others.

You do not want me to try sniping.

I’ve got the most play time on engineer by a long shot I think, but I’m best with the engie, the heavy or the demoman. I’m decent with every thing else that doesn’t start with medic or spy.

Oh, and I should be able to make it this saturday night.

I’m good with anything except spy.

I tend to do best as medic, heavy or engy, though I’ve had a lot of fun with the pyro, i’m not sure how effective I am in that role. I do try to play what I think the team needs, and will try to switch roles as needed. I need to work on communicating with the mic - I hear other folks call out these very efficient bits of information “Heavy - Medic Uber on the Right Tunnel” and it sounds great. When I try to do it, it goes more like this “UH, there’s an UBER, Over on the, uh, left, no right, by that big thing, the shack, with a medic and ah, ugh SPY! SPY! SPY!”.

I think we might do best if we try to pair up or get into some small groups to get things done. We had a few glorious moments against the GWJ guys when our lovable band of misfits came together like a real team.

That being said, we’re playing against POE, so I’m sure there will be emotional scarring regardless of the outcome. BE SURE TO TURN OFF SPRAYS IF YOU DON’T WANT TO MAKE A SANITY CHECK. (though some of them are hilarious).

Alltalk will be turned off, so they will be at a disadvantage. They won’t be able to break our minds with JingleCats and YoungConservative audioclips.

Does anybody know when/how maps are going to be decided?

I’ll work out maps with them based on whatever consensus we can reach here. I’m thinking of a three-map match- one payload, one CP, and one CTF.

I don’t much like CTF, but it’s included for completeness’ sake. Maybe we could stretch to 4- 2xPL and 2xCP? Alternatively, we could use a simple CP substitute like King of the Hill.

Schwa has made some truly nice maps, but using them would put most of us at a disadvantage.

Yay, I see no reason I won’t be there for the practice. One thing that worries me though – will the match be on POE’s server? I get a highish but very playable ping on QT3’s server, so that’s fine, but I vaguely remember seeing POE’s server and it had way too high a ping for me, well over 300.

I might be wrong though, I haven’t been on TF2 for awhile.

Probably on PoE’s, but let’s see how our server plays this weekend.

The POE server is probably best for us North Americans since it’s located in central US (Colorado, I think). What sort of ping do you typically get on North American servers?

I usually play heavy, pyro, soldier, or engie. I’m pretty good with medic, and I have good and bad days as demo. In a competitive match, I’m going to be staying away from scout, sniper, and spy. I’ll try to get some practice in this week as well, as I haven’t played more than a couple of matches since the last showdown.

Has there been any thought given to format of the competition and maps? I liked the competitive mod we used for the GWJ match, and I think a similar 2 out of 3 maps would be good. As before, my preferences mostly boil down to “not Goldrush, not 2fort” and I wouldn’t mind anything else. My top three would probably be Steel, Turbine, and Dustbowl.

I generally play any offensive class, and I’m also a decent medic if the team is short. On CTF/CP/PL maps I’ll go scout if there’s an opportunity to scoot in and capture or move the cart, but I’m much better just killing everyone on the other team, as well as breaking down whatever the current stonewall is, whether it’s a turret or an annoying sniper on the backline.

Classes I suck at: sniper and spy. I’m not a particularly good engy, either. I’ll do it if my team is completely lacking in defense or teleporters, but it’s usually a sign my team is in trouble.

I am what ever is needed.

I think we’ll need at least one or two folks versed in the dark arts of the spy. I seem to remember we had a need for that against the GWJ guys, but that might have just been my general sense that we NEED MORE MEN!

I’ll play whatever. If we need spies during the match, I will be a spy.

I have a sniper question, lately I’ve seen this tactic used by enemy snipers. They jump into view, pull up their gun and fire a shot , from raising the scope to firing must be 1 second or less. I was head shot by this with full health and killed, is this right? I’ve head shot snipers before with a low charge on the gun and did not get the kill.

Re: QT3 vs POE server, I get less ping on the POE servers then the QT3, so I’ll vote for playing on one of their servers.

If you’re talking about things like that that happen on the PoE servers on Friday night gatherings (I remember countersniping you I think), it’s actually bringing your gun up BEFORE turning the corner and just strafing out while looking through the scope. In the time it takes to go around the corner you can build up enough of a charge to kill a sniper.
