I dunno if we ever had any kind of after-action report on the GWJ match a few weeks back, but from my view, our biggest problem was a lack of engys and medics (ubers). On both offense and defense, they had a surplus of ubers and just ran all over us.

Yeah, that’s kinda the key to offense on cp and pl maps. 2 or 3 ubers ready to go one right after the other. If you’re fast enough, you can uber 2 players at once by clicking back and forth between them rapidly.
Your spy stats cannot possibly be accurate! It’s missing a few zeroes.

Totally agree on the medic point. When the skills of the people playing combat classes are fairly evenly matched, there’s a definite need for the defending team to match the number of medics on the attacking team. There have been many instances over the past few months, in private and public servers, where I realized that the onslaught of ubers was the only difference between my (losing) team and the other (winning) team – at which point I switched to medic, brought the situation more into balance, and helped end the losing streak every time.
Oh, and Crane, I totally know what you mean about effective communication. I have been known to say things like “Sentry sniper… under… damnit!” when what I meant to say was “Spy pyro coming from sewer stairs.” I get the most muddled when trying to describe spies (whom I almost always call by another class name, like “sniper disguised as demo”) or when I’m trying to describe a location that lacks any distinguishing characteristic. “Up right” and “up left” are now ingrained in my lexicon to help me somewhat with the latter – everyone knows left from right, and everyone understands how to look up.
Well, I’m happy to play an engie since that seems to be needed. I’m decent at it and I like it. :)
I am not that great at engy, spy, and soldier. I only play them if they are needed. I have had some pretty good runs as heavy and sniper recently. I am going to play tonight and make a better judgment.
Sorry for missing practice. I’ll do dedicated medic then. All I ask is for a good heavy to keep the evil pyros away and keep me from roasting.
If someone who intends to play heavy wants to play some public servers so we learn each other’s voices, feel free to add me: wisefool [qt3]

After last night’s practice session, I would like to vote again for using a POE server or one with less ping for the majority of us. Having over 100 ping makes it very hard to snipe as with each shot I had a second delay.
PoE got their servers back up last night. Apparently admin goofed up when setting up to run concurrent TF2/L4D servers. Match is on for next Saturday night on Deke Lord, the PoE private server. Password will be distributed.
In the meantime, let’s pick two maps for the tournament, against the two that PoE is selecting. I’d like to see Goldrush and a CP map.
Any suggestions?
Sorry my server has been too slow for people, I think it’s a combination of the Colorado location and my hosting company not being half what they used to be.
I did upgrade tf and bounce it last night (it was suffering apparently), but I understand a lot of people still have ping issues.
Let me know if you guys don’t need it anymore, and I’ll take down the server.

Yeah, I apologize for missing the practice too – left Houston too late.
As much as I love asymmetric CP maps, I think it might be best to put forward a symmetric CP map since we’ll already be doing the attack-defend dynamic on a payload map; Granary could be good, but I’m not totally averse to Well. As far as payload goes, Goldrush is fine, though I prefer Badwater.
PoE will be putting Badwater up as one of their two maps, so we’ll have that one already.
They’re also putting up Circlejerk, which is PoE custom, but so simple to learn that a caveman could do it and a hell of a lot of fun.
I was thinking Granary also. The map list is due tonight; does anyone have a serious objection to Goldrush + Granary?
If PoE is putting up circlejerk, we could really use another practice to go over that map. It’s not as simple as it seems, and the map really rewards organization. Even just assigning specific groups to defend and attack could make a big difference.
Let’s practice Friday night on Garbage Day or Deke Lord then. We can vote it in.
I seriously hate circlejerk. It only ends when one side gets sick of it and starts fucking around.

I’m not terribly fond of the circlejerk pick, but since they never actually play Granary over there it’s probably about even.

I’d really prefer something other than Goldrush. Steel, Turbine, or Dustbowl (in that order) would be my suggestions. Granary sounds good though.

I think Turbine is a great map as long as there aren’t more than 8 or 9 players on each team. It gets too crowded too easily. Steel wouldn’t be a pick of mine, but that’s just because I’m terrible on it. I appreciate its design, I just suck at it.

We should probably get Circlejerk and GarbageDay on the QT3 server so we will be sure that there’s somewhere to practice them on Friday.
I can’t guarantee I’ll be there before 10pm EST
