Re: Medic v Scout - neat. I love that I can still learn things about this game after hours of play. It also really is a dramatically different game with each class.
I think somebody asked this before, but in light of the upcoming update + free weekend it seems relevant again: are there specific servers the QT3 people like to play on? Somebody mentioned they’d mostly rolled into a couple other groups / servers since there’s no QT3 dedicated server, but I can’t remember which ones.
I think the updates will be rolled out friday, and as cedstick said, probably as late in the day as Valve can possibly wait. For us EST players I expect it around 10-11pm… though I’d like to be pleasantly surprised.
Scouts are pretty decent at taking out Scouts :)
Ahem.
FUCKING JARATE!!!
The greatest april fools’ joke ever, now in genuine update form.
I wonder if they really planned on it, or if popular demand was enough to make it real. Knowing Valve either is possible.
Short version-Jar someone, they take 35% more damage, but can jump in water to negate the effect. Spies will be unable to cloak while soaked, and you can throw jars at friendlies to put out flames.
Admittedly, the flames might be better.
Edit: Only now do I see the JZigish post. Autopager fail and/or paying attention fail. Oops.

Do we have a QT3 TF2 steam group, playing last night again made me realize how bad I’ve gotten from months of not playing and could probably use a few qt3 games to get my skills back.
Well, medics really shouldn’t be going toe-to-toe with anyone. Scouts are a special case because you’re better served by warding them off rather than trying to run away.
I like the Jarate stuff, snipers spend so much time on the back lines… why not give them some nice defensive utilities as well.
I was really hoping for an update to the SMG, but I guess I will have to accept jars full of urine instead.

Apparently there is a lot of crying about how ‘immature’ this is. While it is a little bawdy, you’re playing a game where cartoon men enact serious acts of violence upon each other. It is pretty disgusting but in the context of the game, I can see why it is funny. The reaction of players hit by it is (presumably) exactly what Valve intended, and I only hope they’ve got new voice-work for people hit by it.
Plus it will lead to snipers chasing friendly players that are on fire screaming around the map.
My favourite line in the entire piece: “Jarate reveals its TRUE POWER: forcing your enemies to accept a terrifying new existence, where people do awful things to them ALL THE TIME for NO REASON and DIGNITY DOES NOT EXIST".
Immature? Come on, it’s TF2. People explode into tiny bits when hit on the head with a shovel. You fire lasers at people WHICH HEALS THEM. And it’s hilarious, class appropriate (who else has to sit there forever waiting on one shot?), and useful.
But especially hilarious, and the demoralizing effect is great. It’ll be a really fun psychological weapon like the Pyro’s fire has always been, one of those in-game things that makes players cringe in reality.
Also the complaints about immaturity are probably coming from teenagers.
I dunno. I think there’s a difference between immature violence and immature toilet humor. Sometimes the two are blended together (Ren & Stimpy) but, as far as I can think of, this is the first time it’s happened within the context of a TF2 game.
I think there’s a technical difference between the two, but I’m not sure there’s an emotional difference at all. Both center around laughing at someone else’s misfortune.
Yes, but then lots of things fall under that particular blanket. Some people think cartoon violence is hilarious while cartoon toilet humor isn’t. I’m one of them. The whole jarate thing doesn’t offend me or anything, but it also doesn’t even get a snicker out of me.
It feels a bit out of place in a game that doesn’t have any other cartoon toilet humor, too. It’s not a big deal, it’s just not ideal, either.
And I wanted a better SMG, damnit.
Why, I’d have never sussed that out by every post of yours since the sniper update announcement!
Really though, hasn’t there already been some “eewww” stuff already? Like “Your liver!” and “Your kidneys!” in killcam shots? It’s hard for me to say it doesn’t fit TF2, it’s silly, it’s got a certain “homemade” feel to it like most guns and such in the game do (especially the flamethrowers), and uh…hell, it’s throwing urine with FEROCITY, what’s not to love?
Even the best comedies often have a bit of toilet humor in them. It’s as though having an otherwise mature/sophisticated/intelligent comedy not only gives you the right to a little bit of lowbrow humor, it makes it funnier by association.
I just can’t wait until the game is updated tonight so I can get my hands on some of that urine (among other things).
The Steam servers are currently too busy to handle my request :(
For now, enjoy the update notes.

Speaking as someone who rarely plays a spy (and thus is jealous of people who can play them well), the spies really got the love in this patch.
Not only can they use enemy teleporters, but they got a huge boost in disguise ability. Maybe that’s a good thing, as I might finally not completely suck as a spy.
