i finally get out of work, have a free night to myself, looking forward to a nice long play session, and the servers are freaking down. all for an update to the two classes i never ever play.

wonderful, it says i’m 34 seconds, all the way down to 16 seconds away from updating done, and then it…stops.
Yeah, it’s pretty borked right now. I’m not sure if releasing a massive update as well as starting a free weekend at the same time was a good idea.

I’ve already downloaded it and I’m patched, so it must be specific servers. The problem now is the host servers won’t be patched, so when you go to ping servers there will be a total of say, 3, available for a while.
I’ve been patched for a while now, so I’m not sure what’s going on for some of you folks. Alas :(
Woah, items are now earned through random drops as you play and not through Achievement farming. This goes for old as well as new items!
TF2 with Diablo2’s element? The end is nigh.

edit: If someone else kills the opponent, can I pick up the weapon?
I don’t know if they’re random, but he’s telling the truth. I think it’s like a viral achievement. If someone has a weapon you don’t, and you kill them and pick it up, you get it.
Yeah, I got the Ambassador, and then passed it on that way. I also saw some other people pick up new things.
Edit: Also, pyro air blast now puts out flames! neato!

I was just coming here to ask if I’d somehow improperly acquired my Blutsauger on some crummy, cheating custom map server, but I suppose I just picked it up from the guy I killed.
Oh, there may be some bugs floating around, becauseI did somehow get a Spy achievement as a Sniper, but I had just switched from Spy to Sniper, so it’s possible it was just some sort of server side lag reporting it, but I don’t think I actually earned it.
Umm…if valve is reading this, don’t ban me!
I’m trying to download the update, but the severs are HAMMERED.

I got the medic gun as a pyro killing a pyro, that’s what confused me.
It took four tries, but I finally got the update to start downloading :)
Maybe there’s just a certain chance of dropping a weapon you don’t have but the other person does? That wouldn’t explain how new weapons enter the system thought.
I didn’t notice picking up the Amabassador though, so I thought maybe I was gifted it or something?
You guys are over-complicating it.
There is a chance of obtaining an item when you are moving/killing. That’s it.

I’ve devoted most of my meager playtime to medic, but have just started to get really into pyro in my last few sessions. I’ve had so much fun burning people and hitting them from afar w/ the flare gun, that I am very, very excited about this weekend. I wish I could re-get achievements!
One day, I’ll actually try to be good with photoshop. Today is not that day.
