I don’t think there’s any ‘leading the target’ needed at all in TF2. Bullet weapons are all instant hit.

The Sniper Rifle’s a hitscan weapon, yes, but Scouts tend to move fast enough that you want to lead them juuuuuust a little.

At the moment it’s the “random get richer” loop or perhaps the “most logged on get richer”. I don’t really think tying the rewards to game events would unbalance it much. Sure the people who are better and play more will get the rewards first but getting points is so easy that it wouldn’t take a lesser skilled player much more time.

I guess… I am sure I was like that when I first started… though, I used to play nearly exclusively sniper in DoD for years… so I feel like I have the quick shots down, just not the tactics.

I thought you didn’t need to lead people. (not the case in DoD) I am glad I wasn’t going crazy. But, it isn’t as much leading people as anticipating where they will be when you click the button (mouse tracking)

yeah, i never play sniper simply because my aiming is horrible. i stick to medic usually.

I’m usually playing sniper on servers where there are already good snipers, so my playing is limited to “Hey, we really need a sniper to fix this situation for about a minute, I’ll switch temporarily while our other snipers are elsewhere” – I am sure that I’ve never played a complete round of anything (except goofing around on arena mode) as a sniper. Also, TF2 is my first multiplayer FPS since, I dunno, the Timesplitters series? and my first online multiplayer FPS ever, so competitive sniping isn’t exactly in my muscle memory.

I also can’t hit a thing with the Huntsman, remarkably, but I’m loving the Jarate, especially on PL/PLR maps. Throw some piss on a choke point and then turn a pyro loose for a great string of mini-crits.

A good point! I feel sorry for whichever team I will be on when I finally try the spy.

What’s the Qt3 group name for TF2? I looked-up Qt3 and Quarter to Three and both return only the Left 4 Dead group.

Save me, Jebus!

Edit: nevermind, found it. Thanks, Frank Austin’s profile!

there is no Qt3 group just for TF2 though, right?

Nope. A bunch of us play with the PoE guys. Check out their PCA (PoE Can’t Aim) group, it’s TF2-focused. I play under Carnifex [Qt3], so drop me a line if you need an introduction or connection made.

I suck at this game and after three nights I still don’t have a single unlock…

Be sure you’re signed into your Steam friends list:

Weapon Unlock server set up to have the ground slowly kill you while you idle and unlock things afk = $50

Plenty of free time to get things by doing nothing = $0

Pushing all of the people together and dropping dispensers next to them so they never die = Priceless

That is outstanding.

I have been getting back into the swing of things lately, much prefer this structure to the old, altho I still dont think its perfect.

I’m just the opposite. I’m worthless with the sniper rifle but at medium range I will fuck your shit up with the Huntsman. I put together a string of 10 Huntsman kills last night, 5 of them headshots. I’m lucky to get more then 1 rifle kill before I die horribly.

Rockets.

When I remember to lead, which isn’t that often actually, the soldier’s rocket is pretty awesome.

With the soldier, it’s all about launching the enemy up into the air and then having them meet another rocket on their way down.

I’ve heard that claim made, and I’m sure it’s true for some people, but I’m nowhere near the point where I can try that level of finesse. (Soldier / Demo are my least played classes, usually only when a turret needs some comeuppance). I don’t know that I ever really see anybody else really working at that level either, most of my rocket deaths are either from playing pyro rocket tennis, or sudden explosion without seeing where the source was.

Your not thinking with corners yet where you’ll be sure to get an explosion off of something rather than just watching the followup rocket sail off into the skybox.

With this tactic, and the similar one for the demoman, you have to watch out for blasting a pyro closer to you!
