Well, that assumes that everyone plays a LOT between now and when trading starts. And no new players ever join. Or people just never get unlucky. I may not need to trade by the time it hits, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I did.

On the upside, hey, I just unlocked 2/3 sniper and spy achievements. I with the others had really been as well done as these, because these all happened in normal play just from doing my job right. But it’s nice to have some bonus items anyway from the unlocks, even if I’m sadly unimpressed with the Razorback. Now it just means the spy pulls out the ambassador and one-shots me(or just three fast revolver shots sometimes). Maybe it can defend one headshot from the back too? I don’t know. Too much speed loss for not enough gain to me. And it’s no Jarate anyway!

In addition, <3 cloak and dagger. This is PERFECT for how I usually spy, but I’d love the dead ringer too for some situations, especially after falling victim to it a few times.

PS-I HATE YOU AND YOUR HAT >:(
PPS-I really just want it myself. D:

I was thinking in conjunction with the achievement unlocks that would push most regular players into having all the unlocks before too long. The achievements haven’t struck me as very hard to get - I got enough to push me over Milestone 3 for both classes without specifically trying to get any, though that was with an unusual amount of play for me.

Of course there will always be players who play so little that it will take them forever to get anything (and frankly I feel for them), but by definition they aren’t going to be a majority by the amount of time played, which kinda counts in a multiplayer game. I’m all for catering to very casual players in some respects, but designing features which will be of most benefit to those who play least seems a bit silly.

And the question still stands - what’s the point in having four Nataschas or whatever? There are going to be few people who will still need those and extremely few who need them and have anything worthwhile to offer in return.

EDIT: And yea, totally underwhelmed by the Razorback. No Jarate just makes it pointless imo because Jarate is awesome! I guess the players who will find it most useful are the campy snipers (using sniper rifle) who sit well behind the front line, but they hardly need encouragement :(

All the Nataschas will go to good use, I’m sure. I still don’t have one, but I’ve got plenty of sandmen and jarates. I sure wish I had one though!

Sure, most of us will be loaded pretty quick on bonus items as soon as trading starts, but there’s still going to be new players (particularly after free weekends), and they’ll get items they want less than one you have.

Eh, even as one of those campy snipers sitting a ways back and pointing at enemy base doors, the razorback has done no good. I’m still getting revolvered before I even zoom out and turn. It needs some major refinement, the idea is great but it hasn’t worked out in the real world.

I wouldn’t expect any “further refinement”, as I don’t think they’ve made any drastic changes to any of the unlocks yet. (That I know of, am I wrong?) The Razorback is such a one-trick pony that it needs to be pretty well scrapped.

I logged 3 days before yesterday and all I got was a razorback. Meanwhile other people who played for maybe a few hours would get the Huntsman or the Aggressor? And you call that fair?

I got sick of actually playing and not being able to use any of the new items, so I started spectate idling and all I got was a bunch of useless items I already had (yay).

Besides, all the spy/sniper achievements are so dirt easy it’s possible to achieve them completely legitimately just by playing. Much easier than the Medic/Engineer/Heavy/Pyro achievements.

Agreed. Completely useless. It’s like they designed it before the Aggressor, since it’s pretty obvious a Spy will just headshot the sniper from the back instead of doing a backstab.

New idler update released:

i finally got the cloak & dagger and can’t wait to play around with that tonight!

now just waiting on the ubersaw…

Trading?!? Wtf? I didn’t know!

Damn. I’ve been deleting all my dupes. All those lovely Ambassadors down the drain! Oh woe is me!!!

I wonder if the item drop system, and the new hybrid system was somewhat deliberately planned to stave off those people using achievement unlockers and getting all items within hours of release. Just think back to the mayhem that was the scout update. Even though there was still a lot of spies and snipers on the pub matches I played, it was nowhere near as bad as the scout update where you couldn’t play any sort of game without being stunned and killed by the sandman and force a nature respectively.

I hope they do something similar in the next updates, have a random drop in the first week, then follow up with achievement based earning after that.

It amazes me how many people never read the blog or patch updates, it really does.

Before the unlocks hit, every time I’d mention it at least half the server would be completely shocked when I told them what the dupes were for.

In my experience the scout update wasn’t nearly as bad as the medic update OR the pyro update. The medic update will probably keep the title because I’ve grown to expect everyone on the team to go with the updated class… but hell, when I came on and found that EVERYONE else was medic… those were some very bad games, very bad…

The scout update wasn’t too bad (again, for me, maybe i was lucky) because by then pretty much every class has an achievement to murder scouts, so there were plenty of heavies and pyros trying to get their scout kills up and there were a bunch of medics wasting everyone else’s time by trying to shoot scouts down with needles.

Have I mentioned how much I hate medics who won’t heal because they’re too busy shooting their needles? wankers.

After all this time, playing each night for an hour and idling all night, I still got nothing (other then the sandwich).
I discovered the pyro though, which I never used before. I’m having a blast (would very much like to have the backburner).

Do you hate everyone who is shooting at the enemy instead of switching to the medic and healing you?

I could understand not getting drops playing for an hour a night, as each drop is somewhere between 45 minutes and 2 hours from what I can tell. But you definitely should have got more idling all night - maybe your app isn’t working correctly? Or your computer is disconnecting from the net at night?

Keep trying. There have been a day or two with idling I have gotten very little, but then another day up to five items which came at 20 minute intervals. At least things appeared to have become somewhat better after the first week, where I only received a total of two drops.

The pyro is an exceptional class when well played, especially with the backburner. With some well timed ambushes, you can practically destroy the other team. It turned into my favorite as well shortly after release and I gained the backburner.

I hear what you are saying, as a medic player with 85 hours under my belt. The wankers you are talking about are probably the ones chasing the achievement, which is likely the kill 50 scouts achievement, which I was so close to getting, if it weren’t for the update, or my new laptop, and new install resetting it (no idea what else considering my stats haven’t been reset) However, as a medic, if the people I am healing are unable, or too stupid to put themselves in between myself and the other team, then the medigun is off and the butsauger/ubersaw is out all in the name of self defence.

The best matchups you’ll see are a group of guys who are willing, and able to defend the medic, and a medic who constantly checks around him/herself trying to catch any ambushes, scanning the team to keep their health up/buffed. A good medic can position themselves in a place of safety, and stay alive. A bad medic runs in with the rest of them, medigun trained only on one person, and gets themselves shot to pieces in my opinion.

I’ve been playing a lot as scout lately, and to me, it certainly is very interesting to play. I may not get a great score, but being able to harrass the enemy and have a quarter of their team go chasing after me gets the adrenaline pumping.

I love my ball.

I think that the idler is not working. its been on the whole night and nothing new.
But I’m really not complaining. I guess the new unlocks brought back many players, so the servers aren’t filled with just uber aimbots.

i got 50+ items in 70 hours of running the idler

This.
