I know what you mean. I play on a regular server, and know I can depend on a lot of the locals in that way. It happens in many, many games, microphone or not. I’m not sure what’s more pleasing: team-mates reacting instantly with microphone use, or team-mates reacting in two seconds without.

Are there any people here from Europe still playing? Is anyone interested in Euro QT3 matches?

European here, up for any matches. I tend to change classes a couple of times depending on what the team needs, so I can’t pin myself down. My least-played are sniper and spy, though.

What was especially pleasing about that incident is that the guy wasn’t on microphone and neither was I. He was a server clan (\TG/) member and he was just switched on enough to know that I needed help. I know what you mean- someone that is aware of their team is so much better to play with.

Well, if enough people respond well try to set it up.

One of my favourite moments was sitting in blu spawn before the round starts. It is a boring minute to wait, right? Especially if it is a public server and no one knows each other. Then, all of a sudden, one guy comes over the mic doing some rough beatboxing, and going “jump, jump, jump.” A few people started jumping… After a round as red, and back as blue the same thing would happen, so much so it gradually became infectious.

Needless to say, the red team were treated to the whole blu team seemingly jumping randomly in the spawn during the last game. Pre match entertainment, and team building. What more could a team destined to win want?

You, sir, are PoE server material. Report to Garbage Day at once.

Don’t I know it. I have lost count of how many of my flaming murder sprees have ended with the phrase “You were killed by: Wisefool”

Speaking of Garbage Day, do they adhere to any particular schedule? I want to get on during another dramatic reading game.

Reading Days are loosely scheduled depending on material and reader. You need both to really get the thing moving. There’s talk about getting one together soon, keep an eye on the PoE events.

The next big thing for PoE is the six-team tournament in two weeks.

Update includes some goodies.

Fixed not being able to reflect arrows with the Flamethrower.

This is going to get me killed so damn much.

Is there any reason left to use the backburner? Maybe if they reinstated the +50 health.

It’s fucking awesome?

Seriously, as great as the compressed air blast may be, the 100% criticals to the back is too much for me to give up.

The backburner is great depending on the map. If you can get around behind defenders, it’s amazing, and it’s awesome for CTF and Hydro. Great for carts too, easy to get behind enemies pushing.

For straight offense in a line, though, or charging enemy positions that are entrenched, I like the compression blasts more, or when facing a lot of scouts. Shove 'em away with an easy blast.

If I come in from behind with the regular thrower I usually kill everyone anyway. The backburner would accelerate that process but when I compare the advantage of additional dps to all the things the airblast does (deflection of three weapon types, sticky clearing, blowing out fires, juggling ubers, pinning intel carriers) it falls very short imho.

I got a new appreciation for the airblast when I realised it let you reliably kill soldiers and heavies while assaulting them from the front.

Compression blast is about the only thing making soldier/heavy fights fair if you don’t have total surprise on your side.

Backburner’s not bad though. Fastest way to kill a heavy if you are indeed behind them. But if you have the axetinguisher and are effective with it, I don’t see why equip the backburner too.

compression blast also adds the team utility of putting out medics and others who are on fire as well as allowing juggles on uber’d heavies. I think it’s benefits far out weigh the 100% crits from behind.

I think that’s the point people are trying to make: reflecting arrows and anti-flame puff are two new uses in the latest updates that put the standard flamethrower over the top in terms of general usefulness. They were pretty well balanced when they first came out, but the air puff has just gotten better and better, and there’s been no similar improvement on the backburner.

It’s hilarious to see on-fire people run up to me (as a pyro) saying “puff me! puff me!” into their mic now. <Zoidberg> Who has all the cards now? </Zoidberg>

between jarate and compression blast I’m no longer quite as afraid of pyros when i have teammates who aren’t idiots. :)

oh, can you jarate yourself to put out the flames?

Nope.
