After a few games tonight, I’m taking this time as the moment at which I avoid TF2 like the plague until after the update. It was pathetic to say the least. Going against a team of at least 8 demomen is rubbish, especially when it is simply sticky and grenade spamming. Sure, soldiers can do much the same thing, but less effective. I just don’t care about who wins this whole new update thing.
It was satisfying differentiating between the good and the bad demomen though as a scout. The good ones put up a decent fight, the bad ones never stood a chance. Suffice to say, that was the only way I could enjoy any element of TF2 tonight was as a scout. It gets boring very quickly when the kill register constantly flashes up a death due to a sticky bomb.

where’d you find all this information?
I read a submission on reddit that linked to an email from Robin saying the sounds have nothing at all to do with Steam friends.
The voice actors are credited in both games but you could probably find them on IMDB or something.
The other stuff was implied/referenced/hinted-at on the official TF2 blog and the various TF2 trailers. Wasn’t Erik a big NOLF fan? Isn’t he a creative director over there? Sounds about right to me.
I know it’s just a poor Patton / R Lee Ermey impression, but I do love whoever writes the Soldier’s lines.

It starts with Zephaniah Mann and wife Elizabeth (now the Announcer/Administrator).
Sons: BLUtarch and REDmond.
Faithful helper: Barnabas Hale
And a mysterious figure whose name and image have been removed.
Zephaniah’s will and family portrait (linked by Funkula above - thanks Funk)

Barnabas Hale has a son: Saxton.
Implied by name, age and Australianness.
Saxton Hale has a son: the Sniper.
Implied by age, Australianness, and hat.

He trains the Saxonettes who include: Pyro and Cate Archer
I forgot what made the admittedly tenuous Archer-Hale connection, and haven’t been able to find it again (a forum discussion somewhere). Pyro is conjecture feeding off of belief by many that Pryo is a woman. Some of the Saxonnettes have burning brands to defend themselves…it’s a stretch.
Cate Archer has a son: the Scout (possibly with the Red Spy).
Meet the Spy
Roughly similar appearance to Cate Archer
Scout says his mom is a Spy.
Err, uh…I got nothing. I think I’ve just heard this enough that I believed it.
The voice actor stuff is all on IMDB and such.
Looks like the soldiers are in the lead by a bit over 100,000 so far…

I decided my best hope for supporting Team Soldier was to go demo and get killed a lot. Mind you, I’m not intentionally playing badly, but I figure time spent as one or the other is likely to result in more deaths at the hand of the other than kills.
I have done my part and contributed 10 kills of Soldier.

New update, including this here hidden comic bit
http://www.teamfortress.com/war/saxtonhale/poopyjoe.htm
which can also be found by clicking on the “poor monkey” text in the last page of the comic. I have to wonder what the idea is behind these hidden bits and pieces.
Still, having a slow internet connection means I find these little image links a lot easier.
Crafting could be interesting, though I suppose it’s only for unlockables already in the game. It’d be nice if maybe they finished up all the classes, then introduced crafting, unless this does something to fix that.

More comics up and Crafting! Say goodbye to all those useless double items!

That’s a pretty radical change. That does actually look quite fun to play.
On the definite plus side: Fewer sticky launchers!
Its the most radical shakeup yet, totally flip reverses the class from an always hang back and lurk sort of creature into the most in your face crazy bastard yet. Its going to let you go toe-to-toe with the flamethrowers and the point blank rockets as well. A row of charging demo men may end up being the best head on counter for a traditional rocket and fire led corridor charge. Looks like a heavy will mow them down easily enough though with that decreased health and no bullet resistance.
I can’t see any good reason to use the two weapons apart they seem the most tailor made combo yet.
There are almost enough pre-gun weapons now to make a medieval fortress mod a formality.

I’ll reserve judgement till I get my hands on it, but that’s some seriously interesting, and if I dare invoke the f-word, fun, stuff. I wonder if you can use the shield with the pipe launcher? Probably not, as the sword and shield are clearly meant to go together, but…
Also, that adverts page is magical. It might be a case of simple things for simple minds, but Vladimir Bananas had me giggling like a loon.

Isn’t the sword replacing the bottle for the Demoman? So, in theory, assuming I’m right, that would mean the shield can be used with the pipe launcher.
The shield replaces the sticky launcher according to the update, I was assuming that included the regular bouncing grenades as well but maybe not.
Oh Valve, you so crazy. I love it.
