There is! It is called:

“Get online when the kiddies are in bed.”

Trust me, it works well most of the time. Some of the best games I have played have been after 10pm. Of course, I’m fortunate here in Australia that most of the population come from the East coast, so i don’t have to worry about timezones too much. With the US though, it is a little bit more harder I can imagine.

That only works up to a certain age. After that the “kiddies” are up way longer than I can stay up.

Unfortunately, they’re all on break from school. Besides, as much as I’d like to just blame teenagers who want attention, there’s perfectly stupid adults too. Not nearly as many, but plenty of 'em, and they never sleep.

Hopefully it’ll die back down soon enough, because TF2 is one of the few games where I rarely have to worry about complete asshats. I just wish Valve would give us an option to block text/voice commands from people too.

I’ve had good experiences hanging out on the GWJ servers and the PoE servers. Well, differently good experiences; the GWJers are friendly but won’t hesitate to kick cheaters, griefers, or generally annoying players. The PoE servers are carefully controlled hostile environments, meant to mock and annoy idiot players until they leave.

For those intelligent gamingly inclined, there’s a brand spanking new RPS server up.

See here.

Who are you kidding? The PoE server are meant to mock and annoy each other (and people who talk like idiots) - that’s what Disco night and FanFic Recitals are for. But playing like an idiot is almost embraced.

And PoE players do it for charity!

TF2 tournament next week (sorry, it’s full up) in which the winning team’s charity get all the money: currently $2,420 (but you can add to that!). Last year, we raised about that much and it went to Heifer International, which bought a whole bunch of critters.

'Come on, you know you want to help a bunch of humorously annoying TF2 players raise money for charity.

Now I remember why I hate playing after an update. Any class spammed to high heaven is really damn annoying.

Indeed. I retract the part about “until they leave.” <3

Really though, the best part of about the PoE servers is that it’s nigh-impossible to troll the people who play there, which means that griefers and whiners get bored and go away.

This is the reason the POE servers are my favorite servers. Pure griefing and mic spamming bliss. Work precludes me from participating in Summerjam but much love for the charity.

At first, I was a bit annoyed by the large mass of engy players (although it is my favorite class), but it’s made it loads easier to get some of the achievements. Some spy kept sapping the other end of a teleporter, and I kept removing it. It got me the majority of the way to one achivement.

Also, some of the other achievements (like assisting another engineer) are waaay easier when there are 8 other engineers running around.

COTTON PONIES COTTON PONIES COTTON PONIES

How come you’re playing TF2 and not getting your overdue SI turn in? Hmm…? I’m watching you…yeah, you!

ROMANCERS do it for love.

Oh crap! I totally forgot! The shame, the shame! I’ll have it in by this evening.

Is there an official/unofficial Qt3 server?
Sometime I need to put in the hours and learn this game.

It’s great to see that with all the changes, TF2 still loves to fuck me with autobalance every chance it gets.

About three months ago, I gave up TF2 for good. I got tired of carrying teams on my back for fifteen minutes and then consistently getting fucked out of MVPs by getting dumped to the losing team with 30 seconds to go. You bust your ass, relentlessly chip away at the opponent’s defenses, you finally break through, and as a reward for your hard work, you get – switched to the losing team! How fun! And it happens all the time.

It’s not like the problem is hard to decipher: people start dropping when they know they’re going to lose. Why not just disable autobalance in the last minute of a match when most of the ragequits happen? What is the goddamned point of autobalancing the MVP with 2 seconds left in a match, which has happened to me more times than I can count? It’s absolutely infuriating.

Like an idiot, I tried giving the new maps a try, because I love Payload to death. And if I played 7 or 8 matches, they fell into two categories: matches where my team got stomped, and matches where my team was doing the stomping until – you guessed it! – I got teamswitched in the last minute. Again and again and again. So here I am, continually at the top of the leaderboard, but always on the losing team, because THAT’S WHERE TF2 CLEARLY WANTS ME.

So fuck you, TF2. I will not be Charlie Brown to your Lucy, continually pulling the football away at the last second. When someone plays well for 15 minutes, they shouldn’t consistently have the rug pulled out from under their feet at the last second. Until you learn this, I’m done with you.

To sum up: RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWRRRWWWWRRRRR

After crafting about 80 items together I have achieved the impossible: a hat for my heavy. Got the hounddog hair.

I think this either means I need to quit TF2 now, or play a few hundred more hours. Unsure.

With this new update, I’ve never destroyed so many sentries in my life.

You can now play single-player against bots to practice.

That’s why you should play on private servers with auto-balance disabled.

Did you glorious qt3 bastards donate $200 bucks to Summerjam overnight?

I’m going to assume

  1. yes, because
  2. you’re awesome
