LOVE the fact that the items I smelted today , gave me nothing , no scrape metal , nothing… Stupid servers.
I will not be paying for any in game items, items are earned (via achievements ) or given to us by random drops.
The pricing is fucked right up if you ask me. I can swallow 2.50 or whatever for a hat… but 17.99 for the white cowboy hat? I think that’s pretty ballsy

I do not have the game installed to check for myself, but from what I gather, it seems the higher priced hats are exclusive to a set and cannot be bought individually, so that is the price you are seeing.
Just a random side note, but what I find a little sad is the prices still follow a 1:1 currency exchange rate for most items according to pictures and price lists I have seen, with only a few exceptions. Doesn’t bother me personally as I live in the States, and no longer play TF2, but I feel for quite a few friends who live overseas.
The thing that gets me is the dueling “minigame”. Not only does it cost $2.50, it can only be used five times. I was looking forward to doing that with some friends but what’s the damn point?
BTW, if you got an item drop which was followed by a crash on exit, the Mann store will lock up the game the first time you visit it.

I was floored by the pricing. I think the $0.49 to $0.99 for the older weapons is just about right, but all the new stuff, Croco-hat, cowboy hat, dueling minigame, paint, keys, and nametag changers are ridiculous.
It’s especially bad when only the new stuff has the set bonuses!
Wow. I won’t be buying crap from the store. Thank God I don’t get all uber-competitive or OCD about TF2.

17.99 is more than I paid for the game. Wow. Though it’s cool that you can get them normally.

Pricing is super messed up, I wouldn’t spend one dime on this stuff, it really doesn’t add to the fun of the game. A good server and a few online friends is what makes this game rock.
I think it’s great.
Mots games with drops favours kids, students and the unemployed: People with more time than money. I don’t have much time, but I have some disposable income - this will allow me to check out some of the items and will prompt me to reinstall the game.

Every time this thread is bumped I feel bad for not having played TF2 in absolutely ages.
I’ll not be buying any special weapons, of course. They don’t seem like a great value proposition to me. I unlocked a decent wedge of them, and the only ones that made it into my regular rotation were the medic ones and the soldier’s alternative melee weapon. I love destroying bow-wielding snipers with the normal rifle.

One thing I’m noticing- casual games forums that don’t take their games all that seriously, seem to be mildly positive or neutral towards this. The more competitive places I look at- most of them are ragequitting. Makes sense, competitive gamers hate gameplay-related locking more then anything else.
I load up TF2 last night and couldn’t access either the Mann store or my own inventory, so I figured it was better to just step away rather than taunt the patch gods and messing up anything.
Is trading active? I’ve been trying for a direct hit for ages but haven’t had one drop.
I’m not against the idea - I bought the Engie Mining Light hat and the Soldier’s Stash hat, just because Soldier and Engie are my two top played classes. each was 2.49, which was in the upper tier up affordability if you ask me. Might break down and get the spy camera beard too, since Spy is my favourite class.
But I just can’t ever see myself spending 17.99 for a single hat. I can’t think of any reason why Valve would set the price this high except for greed. Even $10 would be asking a lot for just 1 item.

I hadn’t heard anything about the patch when I joined a friend playing TF2 last night.
Imagine my sheer joy at people trading, smelting, and investigating shop prices rather capturing the fucking flag. Grrr.
Oooo yeah that has to suck. I wonder if we’ll see Trading servers popping up now?
Last night on the POE server we had a number of people popping in looking to trade for particular items. If drive-by shopping is the new thing, expect more locked servers.
Ok, that part is stupid.
I thought trading and shopping was something you’d do in some sort of lobby…

I am too oldschool for this.
Also, I am post-comunist and post-capitalist. Money is a broken tool.
I wonder if Valve will sue some player duping these items as “thiefs”.
I wonder what the Valve people think about this. Theres a secret plan about this that will turn the whole idea awesome?
If you have another hat I’ll gladly trade away my camera beard. Many updates ago there was a glitch where camera beards dropped en masse. Some people got seven or eight at a time. I got three. Two I crafted into a random hat and I’ve kept the third around, but I hardly ever play spy.
It looks like you have to be in the game to trade, but you don’t have to be in a match. You should be able to do it from the main menu so those people were just jerks, like people who craft during matches.
You should give being post-internet forums a spin.
