That doesn’t prove that the achievements are “the most difficult to date”; they’re the newest wave and constrained to a particular map with a minimum number of players.
Given the same amount to time to play, set up achievement servers and so forth, I think the number of players earning these achievements would be just as high (if not higher) than the older ones.
The presents I’m actually ok with. They’re just hats, hats you can’t wear outside of halloween. I’m having a more difficult time with the haunted salvage. Getting that melee hit in at the end is just crazy hard on a full server.

I don’t think you need the hit right at the end. Everyone seems to think you just need one melee hit and then survive until he dies.
So if you’re a scout, smack him once, and then double-jump to the roof south of the second point, which the HHH can’t get to, and hope no one else kills you. (Many servers seem to have ceasefires on for this stuff, some to the point where virtually no one is even trying to win the round.)
And while the holiday stuff is a cute diversion, it’s completely destablized TF2 for the moment. It seems more than half the servers are running the holiday map, and more than half the players on the holiday map are playing scout so they have a better chance of getting presents. Many of them aren’t even playing; they just try to camp a spot away from combat and hope a present spawns near them.

You can wear Sackston outside of Halloween, Shellfish. I ended up trading a vintage hat for the complete class set since after 4-5 hours of playing I only found one mask. Also bagged the unusual metal but I haven’t got enough refined to make a hat out of it yet, and once I reach 4 refined I’m not sure if I’ll make a Halloween hat or a Familiar Fez since I’ve been dying to try the spy out with the set bonus.
Damn Squee , you should have posted on the TF2 forums, would have gotten a better trade deal.

Probably, but I got the hat by trading away an extra Ellis’ cap and pan, and I didn’t want the hat anyway so it worked out fine for me.
I’m not a particularly wild hat collector. Just trying to get what hat I want for each class.

Once once again I state, it’s an MMO weekend. “OMG NOOB THIS IS MY CAMP WTF!”

You guys still playing TF2 still shoot each other and stuff when you aren’t masturbating over drops right?

Doesn’t seem to be the case this weekend, that’s for sure. The HHH aspect of the weekend is all kinds of fun, especially the “IT” factor. But dear god, the 100% scout servers and giftrushes are just bringing out the worst in the community.
Good time to light a lot of scouts on fire, admittedly.

Yeah, but talking about hats outside of the game is usually more fun than saying “Last TF2 game I totally facestabbed a medic who had an ubercharge! Ha ha!”.
War-themed hat simulator and all that.

Oh. Well then.
Last TF2 game I totally facestabbed a medic who had an ubercharge! Ha ha!

I don’t know if my drop rate is bugged or I’m just really unlucky, all I’m getting are the same 4 items over again, vita-saw, razorback, jarate and a crate. I’ve yet in all the months I’ve played TF2 to find a hat. All the ones I’ve gotten have been from pre order promos.
Eh I played hundreds of hours before finally getting my first hat drop after this latest update. It’s not a big deal since you can craft weapon drops into hats.
Also (for Adree) I jumped onto a contested point with a medic and two heavies and a couple of other dudes and swung my bat wildly and killed the medic.
Thanks Squee, I see the frenzy for the hat now. The only “hat” I’ve ever had drop was the camera beard, and I hate playing spy because I’m so bad at it.

What’s this Team Fortress 2 Beta I have in my Steam Library that was just put there yesterday?
Much as Valve has previously done with Day of Defeat: Source and Counter-Strike: Source, the developer yesterday launched an opt-in public beta program for Team Fortress 2, letting players test changes which may be rolled out to the regular game.
While the initial release focuses on balance tweaks–affecting Natascha and other slowing weapons–plus a few map changes, Valve notes that the beta program may also be used for “testing new technologies without the risk of breaking the game” and “running higher level, game-wide experiments (like doubling player health).”
Valve previously held a TF2 closed beta program with TF2 clans, focused on balancing the class-based shooter for competitive play. The forum for this new beta has separate feedback sections for ‘public’ and competitive play, showing attention to both.
This beta uses a completely separate installation of TF2, so you can still play the regular version when you please. If you own TF2, you can enter the beta by moseying on over to the Steam client’s Library section and installing “Team Fortress 2 Beta” from your list.
Here’s what’s in the initial beta release:
Three Natascha variants:
■-40% damage
■-25% damage, -25% health
■Spin-up/down time increased, slowdown-on-hit effect falls off over distance.
Map changes:
■cp_granary: new entrance added into the RED and BLU mid ramp room.
■cp_5gorge: 5 CP version of cp_gorge.
Misc balance changes:
■Players being healed by a medic are immune to movement-impairing effects generated by hit-scan weapons.
Has anyone else tried it yet?
Things don’t look good for Natascha if they’re testing three nerfs.

Four, that misc balance change is also a Natascha nerf.

Can’t they just leave the Heavy and his weapons alone?
The Holiday Update has arrived! New items and hats, Medieval mode and special keys to unlock the Festive Winter Crates! Not to mention stamps so that you can support community map makers.
Oh, and they finally nerfed Natascha. Increased spin-up time and the slowdown effect drops with distance.
