Looking forward to it! I’ve tried joining in a few times in the past and not seen many folks around. Do they usually take a while to get going after 10P?

It seems to really vary night by night. Some evenings we are full in 10 minutes (I seem to remember Alan Au complaining about that at one point). Other nights, like last Friday, attendence is lighter, and in that case we switch to the public server. We also had a bit of lag at the start of the evening, as our host had left himself logged in, but that was resolved fairly quickly.

Usually Friday nights after a new release (like CTF Well) the server gets full fairly quickly (and then folks start to fill up the Garbage Day server), but I guess we’ll see tonight. I’ve had some pretty fun 1:1 battles while waiting for people to show, but you could always just check from the Steam community tab to see how populated the server is.

What aliases do you guys use?

I haven’t been keeping up with this thread or the events, what are the servers you guys usually play on?

Usually the two PoE servers - Garbage Day and Deke Lord Chet. If you join the qt3 group in Steam, you’ll see the times, ip addresses etc listed under Events.

I was/am DerangedHermit … unfortunately, having to wait till 3am to able to play with you people is not something i can do all weekends :| (the server was laggy as hell last week too)

That accent is what you get when you mix a Yank with a Hick.

And that’s my actual accent, by the way.

The circlejerk map differs and kicked me. And every time I join I get a shitty connection. You guys suck.

The new map is pretty cool, but the amount of time to cap the last point is far too quick imo. A scout stands on it for 2 seconds and wins. Even granary isn’t that bad.

Yeah, that happened to me, too. I just called it a night. Good games, though!

Had a lot of fun last night, was good getting back into TF2, I need to play more because I was seriously rusty.

I could have done without that Circle Jerk map as well.

Last night I played Overflow and Badlands for the first time. Some first impressions:

I really, really like Overflow. It’s not the most unique map out there, but it is very easy to navigate and still fun to play when there are only 6 people left. My main complaint is that there is too much health. I would leave them where they are, but there make them weaker health packs. The secondary tunnels could use a little more attention to detail, too. Overall a good, solid map.

Badlands, despite being a relatively good map, felt… off. There seems to be too many paths to the control points. The second points and fourth points seemed impossible to defend, but I guess that’s now standard for TF2. I also agree that the last point is a jokingly short cap time. I’m definitely going to need to try playing this map as a couple different classes before I form a full opinion of it.

I keep feeling that Circle Jerk is one of those maps that I’ll eventually “get”, but it hasn’t happened yet. I like the idea, but I just seem to end up running between two points getting wtfpowned.

Badlands wasn’t originally in the rotation, but Severian (who is hosting) was kind enough to log on to add it in. Badlands was pretty cool, once I figured it out a little bit. Running up the hill as a heavy doesn’t seem to be particularly effective, though. And yeah, the two second cap on the last point seems tough to defend against.

Also - whoever Point Blank Qt3 is - does my big melon head have a giant “Shoot me here” sign on it? Yikes. At one point I manged to be dominated by 3 people on the other side. It is always a relief to have Not One of Us on my side, as this way he doesn’t kill me nearly as often.

Thrrrpptt and Cesarbear: Sorry it didn’t work out - I saw cesarbear log on, but was too busy alternately dying or trying to figure out how to get to Igloo to notice that you were gone.

You were playing as a Heavy, so yes. Yes it did.

My favorite moment of the night was defending as an Engineer at the last cap point in Dustbowl. I had a well entrenched SG that I was basically sitting on top of and wailing on it with the wrench. Sluggo, who I was dominating, finally switched to a Demoman and managed to plop three stickybombs (one of them a crit) next to it without dying. I abandoned ship before he popped them, ran all the way around the side of the building, came up behind him, and wrenched him to death while he was still looking for me in the debris of my SG and dispenser.

Basically your ownage, revenge, ownage, revenge story.

Maybe my favorite TF2 achievement yet so far last night was playing Dustbowl as a spy on attack. I cloaked and managed to run frantically through the defenders’ line without being caught in the crossfire. Then I realized that the entire red team was up there kicking our ass at the front so I ran back and won 2 or 3 rounds by just breaking my disguise and capturing the second point before they could shoot me down.

Hahaha, yea I’m Point Blank. I would put my Steam Id under my profile name, but I havn’t figured out how yet.

I’m most effective as sniper, but I can’t tell you how many times I grazed players ears last night during badlands. Especially Not One of Us. As soon as he saw me he would dodge and weave like a pro boxer.

And take you out long-distance with crit hypo-needles. God, that felt so good.

Absolutely ridiculous. Pew pew. CRIT CRIT. Dead.

Last night was fun, but my brother and I were cursing Iron Xides (among others) for killing us over and over and over again in a long run of losses on Dustbowl and Well. In one Well we had 4 caps but couldn’t press it home and ended up losing the round. Being on the winning side of the Gravel Pit just before Circle Jerk was nice because I logged off shortly afterwards and it is nice to have a single victory fresh in your memory rather than constant, frustrating, humiliating, and repetitive defeat.

Yeah, I can’t end on a losing round. Something about that histrionic “You’ve failed!” haunts me. I have to keep playing until I win, and then I can stop. Unfortunately this means all my winning streaks are aborted at 1, and my losing streaks all run their course.

Password change on Deke Lord? Can’t get in. :(
