Scouts are for forcing the attacker to pop their uber early because the medic is being bashed in the head with a bat. Yes, you will die, scout. But your sacrifice will be noted in Valhalla.

That last one is indeed terrifying. But looking at the difficulty of some of those medic achievements, I think the player who gets that will deserve it.

I’m undecided if I would use that alternate syringe gun. I play combat medic almost exclusively. Is a weapon that keeps me alive longer worth losing the joy of killing a heavy, his medic, and the guy standing behind them in a couple of syringe bursts?

I play every day, more or less, and there’s no way I’m getting more than 20 of those achievements, even if I exclusively play medic.

H.

Making “strictly better” weapons (like the ubersaw) that can be acquired only through unlocking just rewards catassers/clan members. BAD MOVE VALVE >:(

Especially since some of those unlocks seem damn near impossible for a normal person to achieve. Some of them even seem to promote idiotic antics. “Assist in killing 20 nemesis”? Okay dude go get dominated by every player on the other team, then I’ll assist in killing them all! (meanwhile your team loses horribly)

A lot of them are fine, like the nemesis one, it will just take a while. The bad ones are the “in one life” or “in one uber” type, some of them are darn near impossible without “training” a medic.

H.

I’m betting the ubersaw doesn’t crit and maybe does reduced damage.

I wonder, will a dual uber be possible with different guns and two medics? A heavy ubered with the crit and a normal uber would be a terrifying thing.

H

Sure, assist-killing 20 nemesis will come naturally will enough time, but will still promote dumbass antics like I described above. The intern/specialist ones aren’t as bad as I initially thought (I’m already an intern! Yay!) but assisting a heavy while he kills 30 enemies without dying? Poopsockin’ time!

I wonder how long it would take to accumulate 10 million heal points? I don’t believe that is currently tracked.

I’m betting that’s not the case, because the article which reveals Valve’s final details says nothing about reduced damage or non-crit-ing. Also: nerfing bonesaw damage would make it pretty unusable as a means of self defense.

I’m also envisioning two ubersawed medics chaining ubers on one another, which admittedly would be pretty awesome.

You can check by going into your tf directory and opening tf2_playerstats.dmx in notepad. Scroll down to the medic class part (marked by “comment: classname” “string” “Medic”) and look for the line marked “iHealthPointsHealed” “int”

From the looks of it quite a few of those achievements are going to be gotten due to extreme luck. I wouldn’t worry about it really, I’ll probably start playing combat medic occasionally like I occasionally play combat engineer. If I unlock something great! If not, no big deal. I’ll likely try to get all the Demo ones though.

Horrible achievements list to do if you want to get all the unlocks. Some of them sound stupid, boring, a time sink or too different from the normal gameplay from a match you should be trying to win without making your team lose because you are wasting time because you need only one archievement more to unlock the weapon X.

Suddenly, my entusiasm for playing TF2 has plummetted. What the heck was going through Valve’s mind when they decided to encourage grinding? I thought the achievements were bad enough when stuff wasn’t at stake.

Yes, Walker specifically cited this same instance as a “cool tactical move.”

Yup. These achievements are awful.

People are just going to cheat or exploit or join private servers to get them.

They’d really be better served making them easier to get. People might actually be tempted to get them in the normal course of play that way.

"OMGZ…we won’t be able to get all the achievements on release day!! "

You guys aren’t kidding about the achievements. I thought people might be exaggerating, and a lot of them don’t seem too bad, but some of those are just stupid. I don’t think I’ve EVER even SEEN 8 engineer buildings close enough together that a single ubered demoman could take them out in time. And the one for killing 5 people in a single life with an undeployed uber is…

Do we really need Valve ENCOURAGING people to be retards?

If you actually look at the achievements, many of them are difficult or impossible to get without getting a bunch of accomplices together, and you need all 36 achievements to get access to everything, which means that some of the medic content is going to be inaccessible to most players. I think it’s fair for people to bitch about Valve taunting them by releasing free content they’ll never get to try.

You’re right! It would be much better if they made us pay for it.

Regarding my earlier hysteria concerning the Ubersaw:

Digging through the comments, Nick Breckton (the guy who wrote the Shack article) says

TF2 wiki indicates the ROF for the bonesaw is about 1 second. I am going out on a limb and predicting that this 0.2 second/swing drawback will not deter anyone from using it all the time, every time, given the monstrous upside this thing has. Now, bad spies will not only be dead weight, but LIVING FUEL for the ubersaw.
