Jesus, hard to believe that setting a few rags on fire could cost between 450 and 700 million dollars of damage.

Well, it’s the military. The rags were probably $3 million alone.
Fighting a fire in a submarine is really, really difficult. Especially one that’s in the yard with a skeletal crew and all the hatches open with all sorts of cables and hoses going through them, so they cannot be sealed.
You always have to worry about the heat affecting the structural integrity of the hull, which has to withstand crazy amounts of water pressure.
Oh good Lord yes. Memories of a couple of minor submarine fires I had to help fight are the only real bit of PTSD I have.
You really have to ask, what does the US military train foreign officers anyway?
Gen Mario Montoya was the star soldier who oversaw the defeat of Latin America’s most powerful insurgency, a US-trained professional hailed for turning around a demoralized army and masterminding a string of brutal strikes against Colombia’s leftist guerrillas.
If they weren’t based in Alabama, I’d think about that pitch ;)
That background has Borg cube energy.
I thought exactly the same thing. Makes sense Space Force is concerned about the Borg showing up /s
I agree not bad at all, and I think we (ok for many of us much younger) are probably the target for the Space force recruiting.
I’m curious as to just what Space Force personnel actually do right now, on a daily basis. Did they just shift over stuff like near-Earth orbit monitoring and the military end of satellite ops to the new force? R&D, though that would not make much use of very many people? Or do they have a secret cache of powerarmor?

Without going there, I’m going to guess that there’s a Facebook Space Force group. And they spend the whole damn day there.
I suspect for now they’ve culled some related activities and specialties from other entities and rebadged the personnel or something like that.
Or, yeah, Facebook.

The same stuff they did when they were part of the Air Force. All they did was take some USAF assets and rebrand them as Space Force. They have the same ranks. Their bases are repurposed USAF facilities. I think they literally took USAF Space Command and said congratulations you are now US Space Force.
Makes sense, if it is a little three-card monte like. I was thinking (hoping?) it was a bit more purple.

Yeah, I was hoping if they were going to do it they would lean into it being its own thing, but looking at it the other day the rank structure was the same, and they look just like or really similar to the USAF ones. Maybe over time they will become more their own thing.
Nice to see they are all wearing cammo. Gonna’ blend right into the satellite debris fields.
