I played this a second time recently and felt very differently about the level of polish than Turin, but I never had any of the issues he described, to be fair. In fact, my second play through only further cemented how amazing this game is, especially given how completely different the story was this second time (I went Iorveth this second time, myself, and enjoyed this version of the story much better - I hope they can import it for Witcher 3). God, such a great game, top to bottom.
I’m trying to only skim the posts above (to avoid any minor spoilers), but this discussion has renewed my interest in the Witcher series (I’ve been meaning to play through 1 and 2, but so far I’ve not made it past the Witcher 1 tutorial–perhaps because the combat was a bit weird).
…Anyway, have any of you guys tried mods on your replays? I’ve heard, for example, that there were some really great combat mods for the Witcher 2 that smoothed over some of the rough patches and (maybe?) provided better balance as far as traps and potions were concerned.
From what I’ve seen and read, I’ve been thinking that I’d probably try such a mod on my first playthrough with the Witcher 2, but as always I’d love to have something with the Qt3 seal of approval.
Iorveth branch is better. I mean Roche is fine too, but Iorveth has more Vergen and especially Saskia and Philippa, and the dwarfs…it is just more entertaining.
I am looking forward to my second playthrough of this branch.
So… almost 2 years of playing this on and off, and I finally made it to act 3! World navigation is just extremely painful, which is why I keep putting this game on the back burner. But I have to get it completed before Witcher 3 comes out. :p
I went with Roche, seems like a cool guy, and I didn’t expect act 2 to end as it did.
Also got the achievement for killing 500 foes, there is a LOT of fighting in this game.
I’m actually curious about this - could you elaborate?
Flotsam wasn’t horrible, but pretty much the entire area outside of the Kaedweni camp was causing me much distress , not being able to go up a tiny hill to get to the path I’d need, and then don’t get me started on the horrible jumping off / climbing ledge prompts, and warping animation to be lined up just right. Also using the map seemed to be harder than it should, its off center and hard to control the zooming for some reason.
I have to remind myself this is a 2011 game, because it sure looks current gen in alot of ways.
Also Witcher 2 sidequests are pretty damn good. You mentioned up thread that the Iorveth path was good, I might try to find a youtube to watch a consolidated version of it , if I can find it.
Oh, I see what you mean - yeah, figuring out how to get around in some specific areas is definitely a pain sometimes. I had forgotten about the Kaedweni camp, I think I had the same complaints when I got there. My second play through with Iorveth sent me in a different area, one that is maybe easier on that front since I don’t recall any issues like that (or I was just good enough at how the Witcher 2 operates for it to not be a problem).
I do recommend some videos of the Iorveth stuff, it’s very different than what you already experienced, which is fun and worth checking out.
Or a Neverwinter Nights game, as we’ve been discussing!
And done, damn what a fantastic 3rd act. :D
And the ending after the credits, can’t wait for Witcher 3 now!
Ending screenshot after credits!
Just restarted this one, as I only got through, uh, the first part of the prologue thingy last time. Now I finally made it to–yay!–Chapter 1, some podunk village in the woods.
Despite the QTE style prologue stuff, I do like the style, look, and feel of the game mostly. The combat takes some getting used to, and there’s a lot of sitting around watching stuff, but it’s pretty compelling for this sort of thing really. Looking forward to playing it and then maybe trying number 3.
Enjoy Wombat, it really got me in the mood for Witcher 3.
Really think about the “Assassins of Kings” part of the title and the choices you make. :)
Looking at these two threads in Tapatalk, I’m impressed the last two Witcher games have proper thread titles. Not “Witcher 3 trailer” or “Witcher 2 - from the devs who brought you The Witcher.”
Well done, everyone.
And then there’s “Norabunga”… ;)
Which I continually confuse with “Nobunaga,” thinking "Hey, they’re doing another Nobunaga’s Ambition game!
Holy moly, this damn thing is hard. I’m on Normal difficulty, and I’m dying every few seconds in these set-piece events. For example, we’re toting an incapacitated Tris through the forest, and she’s holding a shield against arrows. Periodically, a bunch of elves attack with swords, and I have to defend Roche and Tris. But there are like four elves at a time and I go from full health to zero like that. I hate restarting these sort of things over and over again; sort of robs the experience of any fun.
No shame in lowering the difficulty. I played it on Easy and still felt the fighting was challenge.
Combat is much improved in Witcher 3.
Just remember to always watch your back - you take 200% damage from the back, and taking on four dudes at once pretty much means your back is open to someone at any given time. You can take skills that reduce that penalty, but then you’re not taking other cool skills so it’s a tradeoff.
I cannot stress enough how much the combat is improved in the game by installing the full combat rebalance mod.
Again: CDPR was so impressed by this mod that they hired the guy who made it. A few of the devs have said that this is what the combat in Witcher 2 should’ve been. Give it a shot on normal difficulty, see if it doesn’t help you out greatly.
Yeah, I get that, but when two guys come at you from one direction, and another pair from the opposite direction, and you have to defend the people in the middle, I can’t seem to figure out how to avoid getting backstabbed. particularly as the bubble keeps moving and my attacks carry me outside the bubble, where archers perforate me. My coordination is sadly lacking.
Heh, I’ve been playing with this installed actually. I think I’m playing with it; I installed it, and under “mods” it’s listed as installed and activated. As I never played this for real without it, I can’t verify though!
