I’m sorry if this has been covered before - this thread is like 55 pages and growing.

How is the US translation this time around? iirc the original Witcher translation was quite poor, to the point where an entire second translation was patched in. is that the case again?

It doesn’t feel like a translation, it feels like an English native western game. Also has same VA as patched Witcher.

It’s superb. Lines sound like they’re written by native speakers, and the voice acting is excellent.

One of the best translated games I’ve ever played, and doesn’t feel like it’s been translated at all.

I second that. I’ve not at all had any moments where I’ve felt yanked out of the narrative because of the it. It’s quite impressive.

I don’t know about superb. It’s good, yes, but definitely stilted in spots.

edit: To be clear, I liked the original wacky translation of The Witcher and I wish we had more of it here. It lent the game a unique flavor that we’ll probably never see again in a RPG outside of Russia.

Huh, in the mutation assignment screen (which was wonderfully hard to find) you can use WASD to move up and down the list, but nowhere else, at least that I have found.

I think it’s funny for about a minute or two, or the length of the Space Rangers 2 opening cinema. If you want more go check out the new King’s Bounty games. Great games and you can consume enough bad russian english to choke on.

Back to the game, it’s not only beautiful but the quests don’t suck. Not like DA2 lack of sucking, but actually good! The one fedex quest I ran into morphed into something quite different and the rest have been equally surprising. Well maybe not surprising, more ‘I didn’t think they would go there.’

Oh yes the slowly scrolling subwindow is pretty bad. The entire screen has space to show all of it in one go, so it doesn’t make sense.

Good, this post gave me an adequate context for your Arma 2 complaints! :P

-I could swear you can change difficulty in game (supported by other 2 posters).
-qtes show clearly the key to press. At least to me. You can even lower the difficulty of QTE specifically.
-Stealth is optional. And yes, it’s hard, but fair, it’s possible to do.
-The tutorial tips screen seems to be bugged, but at least they are in the journal to read them with all the time in the world.
-The manual explains how to use potions, you don’t have to check it online.
-The lack of inverse mouse was pretty bad, i admit, it’s to be patched.
-You can save when you want (f5), except in combat.
-Skipping cutscenes depend if they are really cutscenes or just dialogue scenes.
-Animations are not cancelable, you thing carefully about what you are doing. But i agree that particular animation could have a faster recovery time. Still, given that you can’t be damaged while you are doing the finishing animation (because it’s a mini cutscene), it kinds of cancels it out.

Since noone has done so: The dropped weapons are on par with the crafted stuff. You can also buy/get armor that is very good. However the highest end armor pieces and the best sword are craftable, so if you worry about having absolutely the best endgame gear you need to worry a bit. The nonmonster materials required can be purchased for cheap at the vendors anyway though, so you don’t need to loot all the trash containers.

The game is more polished than The Witcher 1, but still it needs a light second revision. Like, not having shortcuts to dialogues (1,2,3) or wasd to pick them, or having a quicksave key but they somehow forgot to put a quickload key.

2 Collector’s Editions arrived from UK today (one for friend). 7.2Kg total, heh.

Surprisingly, Geralt’s bust is undamaged, and I have to say, the 200 pages artbook is absolutely glorious. It makes New Vegas’s comic book look really lame. Awesome CE.

I noticed that if you are in the middle of a swing and someone starts attacking you if you press or keep pressing E for block you’ll block the attack when it lands, canceling your own.

This seems to be useful when you commit to a swing against one enemy and another one tries to hit you.

I really like that the combat requires you to be careful about when to attack (much more interesting than the combat in the first game). That being said, there do seem to be some responsiveness issues.

Patch next week

Where did you order?

My order with Zavvi hasn’t arrived yet.

thehut.com which is seems to be same company as zavvi. They have better delivery times for some reason, in my experience. I am surprised it arrived only 3 days after release, I was not expecting it for another week.

It is the same company. Maybe when I get home from work I’ll have the Witcher 2 waiting for me. They supposedly shipped it last friday.

Is there any way (key press or whatnot) to highlight lootable items?

Also, played the prologue, even though the configuration tool indicates I should set my graphics to medium I set some stuff to low but I still seem to have, I dunno, input lag or whatnot, Geralt’s movement feels like he’s constantly hopping.

Press Z (by default). An annoyingly slow orange ping will emanate from Geralt’s amulet and highlight anything lootable with a smoky orange effect.

Yes, you need to use the Medallion. I think it’s Z on the keyboard, but I might be wrong. Check the key bindings.

On the gamepad, it defaults to pressing the left stick.

The problem of looting items is that you have to be just on top of the object and even look in the correct position, the “trigger” zone to loot them should be a little more permissive.
