Sort of depressing on the load times. Makes me really tempted to find the DRM-free files and copy them over.

Aw, too bad the trophy list doesn’t tell you what bonus each item gives you.

Hah, i will answer my own question with the link i posted before!

The item was “Arachas shell” and it serves not for one but for two items, an armor and a sword. Now to search the crafting recipes…

damn glad I got gog version. CDProjekt should patch out the DRM from retail/D2D ASAP.

Can anyone describe what’s going in in that video? My work blocks youtube, but I’m curious to know what’s the difference. I have the GoG version.

Game takes 40+ seconds to start (compared to 6 with gog) and FPS is lower a bit, compared to GOG.

My startup time is astonishingly slow with a boxed retail version. The Witcher medallion stays on screen for nearly a minute. It was a bargain, but if the difference is that dramatic it takes the sheen off it a little.

Steam version starts up quickly, too.

Yow. That does suck. 40 seconds isn’t a lifetime, but when you’re staring at your screen waiting for gaming goodness, it can be really frustrating.

You are soo behind me :). I already did that in the weekend, and succesfully (way shorter initial load).

Are the servers still down ?
Been waiting to play for a week and now this :(

Ah, no wonder the game takes so long to load from the launcher. Oh well, it was only a pain when I was trying out graphics settings.

How are you guys doing for loading on area changes? I have this game installed to an SSD with 8GB of RAM and I still catch it streaming in certain places. It only goes to a black screen when I turn around and go right back into town.

I appreciate that they’ve done away with loading screens, but it’s still enough to take me out of the moment.

I barely notice loading during normal gameplay; there’s just that flash of the loading animation thingie in the bottom right and then I’m in a new area. The only times it’s noticeable, I find, is during cutscenes that move to new cutscenes right after, where the screen will go black while the next cutscene loads up. This can happen, it would appear, right in the middle of a “scene” where I wouldn’t otherwise think a break would fall naturally.

Not sure how much of that is related to settings. I use large textures memory size and other settings high/on (except for ubersampling, motion blur, cinematic depth of field, dangling objects limit). Oh, and that’s with the GoG version, not the one with the DRM.

Streaming’s imperceptible for me - I can see the loading symbol in the bottom right, but there’s no effect on the gameworld I can see. Vertex3, 16GB, 2600K though so I’d hope not. Makes up for my 40s load time :| There is one place where you leave Flotsam and it visibly takes a moment to slap on ambient forest lighting, detailed tree shadows etc. It’s like the next gen version of that UE problem where the textures are muddy for a second while it digs out the high res versions.

It’s interesting that they have all those doors around town, presumably to take a load off the GPU, but they don’t actually trigger level loads, they just slow your passage down a little - presumably to a pace the streaming can keep up with?

It sounds like we have similar performance. I’m only on an Intel 320 though.

I was just wrapping up a lot of forest quests before the end of the chapter, so I probably noticed the streaming a bit more than usual as I ran back and forth between town. It still beats the hell out of waiting for the swamps to load again and again.

Yeah that’s what I figured. Same with the little cliffs to jump down. I don’t know how modern streaming techniques work though.

The doors haven’t bothered me much. I’ve never struggled to get through them or got caught in one accidentally during combat. Maybe I got lucky.

Area changes are pretty much imperceptible to me too. And the game is simply installed on a normal HD. My machine is an i7 first gen and has got 6GB of RAM.

I get the loading icon at the bottom right but I can keep moving around. Once in a while, if I move too fast, I might get half a second of black screen at most. But it is fairly unusual.

I’m playing the DRM free GoG version by the way. My initial load time is not quite 6 seconds. But much faster than 40 seconds.

Yeah the criticism of doors on RPS (if I remember correctly) was way overblown. It was a tiny bit silly when I walked with some NPC somewhere and she slammed the door in front of me, but that is about the only nitpick I can say about it. Is it certainly preferable this way instead of real loading screens.

That said, I do not have SSD and I saw loading screen few times (like 4 times during whole game) for about 3 seconds when running around. The streaming could not always keep up.

I am really tempted to start second playthrough already. I feel really sad it is over. Kind of like I was sad when Buffy or Firefly were over. Dammit.

Triss is such a bitch about that.

But I forgive her, <3 Triss.

Doors and entrances are a bit funky, in how Geralt is “guided” when you use them. I think it’s that way because really there are invisible zones dividing the game world and that transitions serves to know what new area to load in the background or some other related technical explanation.

But it’s not something to make a big fuss about.
