So, in White Orchard - if you meet an old lady (in front of a hut midway between the village with the inn and the healer’s hut, apparently only by night) who wants you to recover her frying pan, please do. Best sidequest in the game for me so far, and apparently one that will grow into something else later.

Right now I’ve got undiscovered locations on my map turned off because I usually don’t like following the markers. I know Tim said he prefers the markers turned on in W3. How are others playing it? How much is left to discover on your own if you turn these on?

I don’t necessarily want to have to sweep the map bit by bit, especially because the local maps don’t show you what you’ve explored and what you haven’t like Skyrim does.

Can’t remember if this tip came up in the thread or not, but when you’re on menus you can use the right stick to move between the major areas of the screen. So for example, when shopping you can switch from your inventory to the shop’s inventory by pressing right on the right stick instead of pressing right on the d-pad 6 or 7 times until it moves all the way across.

Yeah, same here. I started playing W3 after a three day Bloodborne marathon so it was a bit of an adjustment but last night I think it finally clicked and I’m feeling really good about the game now.

Just did that one. The little bits of character these add are impressive.

C’mon, you guys act like you’ve never taken a pan contract before.

You can do that, but then don’t ask us to confirm whether you’ve done everything. :)

Like I said, there are a couple quests that pop up as you walk around.

Yeah, and…

minor spoiler for the sidequest

…I love how, in that sidequest, Geralt talks to himself and the lady retorts things like “have you talked to me?” and “to think that when I talk to myself people say I’m crazy”. It’s a funny lampshading thing that shows the kind of humor I love about CDPR.

Oh thank goodness. Based on all the other niggles, I figured they just screwed this one up too.

Uh, I don’t know what you mean… hey, watch out behind you!

I’m a witcher. If there was something behind me, I’d have heard it. ;)

The improved body language makes such a big difference in dialogue compared to last gen RPGs like TW2, DA2, ME3, etc.

In that pan quest, the old lady gets closer and closer to Geralt, who seems taken aback. Later Vesemir was looking sideways at some people in the bar, and Geralt and I picked up on it right away.

There’s not a lot of interactivity in CDPR’s conversations, but they’re so nice to watch.

So I got a refund on my GMG purchase and decided to go ps4 (digital). I think I’ll probably still buy the pc version at some point when the enhanced edition is out for like $10 at least for the mods. GMG still sent me a 40% off next purchase code which is nice.

I’ve only sank a couple of hours into the game so far but I’m loving it. I played maybe 2 hrs of the witcher 1 and haven’t even completed the tutorial in witcher 2 so this is basically my first witcher game.

  • I left it on default difficulty setting and yeah so far combat is pretty easy. Having just come off of 57 hrs of bloodborne this felt kind of similar to that but clunkier. Still, it is a ton better than that boring little timing combo chaining thing they had going in witcher 1. That was incredibly dull.
  • That weird momentum thing is really odd feeling while on foot. I’m starting to get use to it but yeah it doesn’t feel right.
  • I’ve already discovered a few cool side areas and quests just while on my way to the first tavern. So far so good.
  • I sat down and started that card game. As I tried to end my turn it crashed to the cross media bar. Hmmm…first time I saw a ps4 game do that. Good thing I save often.
  • The voice acting is actually quite good in this one.
  • Graphics do NOT disappoint. It’s as beautiful in motion as it is in all these screen shots I’ve been seeing in this thread.

I’m looking forward to playing this for a long time and then maybe swing back around to witcher 2 when I’m done.

I’m not falling for that… OH YOU FUCKER

I like that quest intro a lot haha

I won’t ask :-)

Since I just started exploring I did find another place of power, some deserters, a monster den, and a pack of wild dogs!

I’ve been specifically avoiding the main quest after doing white orchard.

I’ve just been exploring around, finding stuff, whatever.

One thing is that I’ve found a bunch of places of power, and as a result, have gotten a bunch of ability points. However, since I’m only level 3, I can’t really USE them much, since even if I unlock the abilities, I can’t actually equip them.

It seems kind of like regular fighting and even secondary quests don’t really give you much experience at all, and it’s mainly the story quests that give you large chunks. Is that true?

The reason I ask is that I’m kind of interested in just wandering around and ignoring the story.

I did this with Oblivion, and it was one of my favorite gaming experiences. I actually explored virtually the entire world before even going to Kvast for the quest that starts up the whole main storyline… I ended up forgetting about it. Then, at some point, I just kind of accidentally stumbled into Kvast, and had oblivion gates suddenly start opening and all kinds of crazy stuff go down.

I was level 4 for hours until I did a leg of the story quest. Now I’m level 6 in an hour

They feel like actual conversations, more than any other game I’ve ever played. There’s so much nuance in facial expressions and body language everywhere, that it’s really, really impressive. It helps that voice acting and writing are top notch, too.

Really, I’m loving this game. And what I love the most about it is the attention to detail, the attempt to make a world that feels authentic, organic, real.

I was thinking the same, this is miles better than W2.

Regarding exploration - I found a lvl 33 quest in the first zone after prologue, nuts. Seems like difficulty is all over the place and I suspect I’ll be making trips to the third zone before I even explore 20% of the second one.

There’s a weird notice on the first notice board about a deserter. I thought it would tie into a quest later or something. Well, someone on reddit pointed out the joke, which will only make sense to people who played The Witcher 2 on Roche’s path.

His name is Odrin. As in “OOOOODRIN, where aaaaarrreeee you?”

I love CDPR. Their fan service actually puts a smile on my face.

Let me just say that people who read the books are smiling nearly all the time. ;)

If you are having crashes and or chuggy video segments, reddit peoples are suggesting rolling back Nvidia Drivers to the GTA5 one from last month.
