Kudos to CDPR for responding in an honest and forthright manner about the behind-the-scenes realities that game developers face.
Given how they like to address a lot of player complaints, I’d say that last line implies they might try to do some aggressive graphics improvements in an EE patch down the road. As always, don’t set your heart on it.
I tried hunting with the crossbow. The good news is that it takes down deer in one hit. The bad news is that it auto-aims for distance, so there’s zero challenge other than fighting with the inherent awfulness of lining up guns with a thumbstick.

Kudos for responding, for sure.
Not so much for having waited after the release, and after having claimed the opposite all along. As I said, it’s just their marketing telling them that giving an apparent “honest” answer is the best way to deal with this. If we want to be cynically honest and see this thing for what it is.
Not-kudos also for still not really admitting the downgrade. For them it’s “evolution”:
We don’t agree there is a downgrade but it’s our opinion, and gamers’ feeling can be different.
There are parts here and there that seems to be written by a lawyer just so they cover their asses.
If gamers want to do a class-action lawsuit about this, they’d do well to hire Aviary Attorney.
Just poured a glass of bourbon. I’m ready for a fine evening of in-game conversation.

The conversations in W3 are so much better than in real life :-)

I was preparing to move on out of the first area and decided to see how many undiscovered points of interest I had, so I turned the option on. I missed 10 locations even though I thought I was being relatively careful. Damn! At least I have more stuff to do!
The only real complaints I have are control related and they just occasionally annoy me. The combat is good enough, great characters and dialog, beautiful world.
The people who live there sure do make some disgusting noises sometimes. I prefer the minimalist approach CDPR takes with NPCs who don’t have anything important to say. In Skyrim I feel compelled to choose every dialog option, even though sometimes it is a waste of time.
I don’t really bother with the horse much. I can run fast enough and use fast travel if I need to go from one end of the map to another.
So far definitely my RPG of the year and the year before that. Easily beats DA:I (even though I really did like it a lot), Pillars of Eternity…
I didn’t see a link for it, so here is the Eurogamer article that HRose quoted.
In particular, I wonder if this…
…means that some of the tech they ended up not using will become feasible with DX12.
There was also something that he didn’t quote in full context, perhaps because it didn’t fit his narrative?
Oh man, that first time you cleave some dude in half.

Man, everybody seems to be burying the lede in that Eurogamer article, including Eurogamer.
efore I get into the nitty-gritty, know that a big patch with 600 changes - including improvements to graphics and graphical settings - was sent to certification today (Wednesday 20th May), and will take between five and seven days to clear. There will be patch notes covering it all.
In addition, CD Projekt Red will patch the game to allow editing of .ini files on PC, to push graphical settings even higher. You will be able to tweak grass and vegetation density, post-processing effects such as sharpening, and draw distances. The .ini patch will arrive soon after the other patch. “And we think about some other tricks but we need time,” Adam Badowski says.
Who else keeps saying Milfgaardian instead of Nilfgaardian?
If only. We need some Milfgaardian pics.
Yeah I really don’t care about the downgrade crap, but I am looking forward to seeing the other changes.
Also, could one of you lads lend me a plough?
Gwent seems… dumb. Perhaps I should wait until I have some decent cards.

The offer in your region is better, IMO.
Hmm… could there be a reason I can’t call my horse? I hit the buttons and nothing happens.
Gwent is actually a pretty cool game, from what I could play so far. It has all the trappings of a good CCG - bluffing, tactics… I hope CDPR will pull a Hearthstone at some point and make it available outside of Witcher 3.
If the horse is nearby, calling it doesn’t work. It doesn’t make much sense, but then again…
Rolled back my Nvidia drivers to 347.88 , and I am not getting any crashes anymore, played 45 minutes with lots of time in the inventory and 2 cutscenes. I did lose about 9fps overall, but its better than crashing or total system freezes.
Ultra settings (w/o hairworks) @ 50fps are just fine with me. :)
Nvidia must not want people to read, because I had two more lockups reading books. Rolled back my driver, we’ll see what happens.
Besides reading, I got a few other things off my todo list tonight. First I tried HairWorks. I didn’t think it looked that great on Geralt and there was a noticeable performance impact, so I turned it off. I took care of some crafting back in White Orchard and grabbed the saddlebags I forgot to buy. Then I cleaned out my inventory by dismantling heavy junk items and selling any items where I had more than 10, and dropped all my books next to the dwarf smith. Now I’m moving the game over to my SSD.
There’s hardly any time left for adventuring!
