This game keeps getting better and better.
Adventuring
I defeated a level 14 flying monster last night while I was at level 5 but I couldn’t find a way into it’s lair after I made it dead. I returned tonight and found a way to get inside.
Climbed up through a cave, through several floors of a ruined castle and up to the top of a tower (gorgeous view). Looted all the goodies (a couple of upgrades), read a gnome’s journal, and triggered a new witcher scavenger hunt.
Went back down, lowered the drawbridge, walked out the proper way, mounted Roach and headed off south!

I think that would have been good to put in a spoiler.

I feel a bit dirty. I used the map to visit those 10 undiscovered points of interest. Most places were pretty basic, but I found a cool quest I missed. I’m glad I got to play it, but it lost some of the impact that it would of had if I discovered it myself. I’m heading to the 2nd area so time to turn the undiscovered POI marker back off.
Don’t overthink it. Just enjoy the game.
Rolled back to the GTA Nvidia driver. Still hangs while reading letters.
Fucking letters.
This is so fucking dumb.
How did you install the game? Wonder if it’s a file corruption issue. If you installed with GoG Galaxy or Steam you could try verifying your files.
I have read a lot of letters, books, and other collectibles on the new Nvidia driver without any issues so far. Are we sure it’s a video driver issue?
I might as well use the new driver then if you’re still crashing with the old one. I doubt it’s a driver issue.
I feel like there’s a mild exploit in combat. Don’t read further if you don’t want to use it I guess. Stay near the edge of an enemy’s tether range where it would normally run away from you back to the center. Wait until it attacks and then dodge forward past it. Now attack it in the direction away from the center of the tether range. The AI seems to stop backstepping at this point because it’s so far from the center. It’s effectively an artificial corner. Most enemies can be stunlocked so you can finish them off without much risk of taking damage.
I don’t feel bad about using it against huge crowds since I lack useful tools to deal with them in the early game, plus it requires some maneuvering to set it up.

I’ve seen plenty, plenty people reporting crashes in inventory/reading letters.
It’s definitely not uncommon.

Release night I had inventory screen crashes every 20-30 minutes, it felt like. Easily 5+ in 4 hours played. Someone on the CDPR forums suggested changing the framerate limit setting from 60 to unlimited and in the next 12 hours I have had zero crashes of any kind.
Ugh this does suck. Its really nice to throw up a Quen before fights when you know they are coming but then I go to Igni or Axii or Aard and its tedious.
Hardware cursor is always a good idea. I am not sure I have ever played a game where hardware cursor was not a completely awesome setting to enable. Regarding armor looks…completely agree. I am not the guy that messes around with aesthetics during character creation but I have found myself not equipping massive stat upgrade armors because they are just clown show stupid looking.
I hate horse combat, I get owned. I will say that Axii owns horses. Casting it on them makes them throw their riders who you can then 1 shot with a fast attack as they lie on the ground.
Whoa! I saw that one for the first time, and only seen it the once, in 16 hours of play.
I like it. The AI is terrible at it though, I mean, fucking awful. Its hard to lose unless you are playing someone with just way better cards than you, which has only happened to me once, with one NPC.
Other thoughts:
Taking notices not only put quests in your journal but it can also put ? on your map for stuff that is not necessarily a quest. About 60-70% of notices seem to be just flavor stuff though.
The water is the worst. Pro tip: Crossbow works under water and owns the fuck out of Drowners.
Quick question with a long story I’ll skip. I found Witcher 2 unplayable with a mouse/keyboard setup. I’m sure some people thought the controls were great on mouse/keyboard, I just want to know if it is noticeably improved or if I should simply wait to buy it together with a new gamepad based on the fact that I personally thought it was garbage-unplayable in the series last iteration. Never played Witcher 1. Thanks!
No crashes of any kind for me, with Amd. .
And yeah, selecting signs was better in Witcher 2.
So a few pages ago there was some potential spoilery drops of the number of quests in game and a certain number.
That number I think is based on the Prima Games strategy guide. It’s the number they list.
I don’t think that’s accurate. They do not list, nor even make much mention of, a number of the little environmental quests that pop up, at least as far as I notice in my skimming of the guide.
I think there are more. Many more.
It’s bizarre because different people are reporting different things stopping the crashes/freezes. Setting FPS to unlimited is one of the suggested fixes, but I have mine set to 60 with no crashes since my earlier sessions (where it regularly froze when reading a book).

So… saltpeter. I submit that it doesn’t actually exist. I got some early on as a quest reward and have NEVER seen it for sale anywhere from anyone.
Kinda makes trying out bombs problematic when every single recipe takes it and you can never get any.
I bought some in white orchard and then found like six of them in stashes north of the old mill.
Been getting some lock-ups now and then, often during cutscenes. Often near enough to a save point not to be bothersome. Severely overtaxing my gtx 770.
No crashes here either. Hardware cursor was a must though.
Took a while to get used to selecting signs, but it works now. Playing with a 360 Pad.

How are my fellow DM masochists handling the combat against humans around lvl 8? It seems much slower compared to fighting monsters, enemies have this uncanny ability to block attacks from 360 degree angle even when I sidestep behind them and they’re still in the swing animation. Those fights are really becoming a drag without any ability to break their guard. It reminds me of AC1 combat where you were forced to wait for counter attack opportunity.

And a small question regarding crafting - is it possible to downscale (lol) the crafted item? I found a schematic that would give me lvl 12 item but I also found a lvl 3 version of that same item - now I’m wondering if it’s possible to adjust the level I want to craft it for.
Gamepad for me, I just couldn’t play W2 with KB+M. And I am so use to the gamepad now, its all I use for Witcher 3.
Also regarding saltpeter, yep any Herbalist should have a supply.
Before I went to bed last night I went back to White Orchard and re-purchased my Witcher sword for 3x what I sold it for. At least I didn’t destroy it for parts at the time, heh. Anyways now I can use it for upgrades later.
Also I suggest anyone looking for easy loots to make sure to check the local rivers and lakes. The crossbow works under water if you are being attacked. I’ve found 4 decent chests so far, each has had a recipe for crafting something, they are not marked on the map at all, even after opening them, like certain other treasure chests. Headed back to Velen and did the burn bodies quest, didn’t expect that outcome.
Old Nvidia GTA5 drivers defiantly fixed my crashing issue. But reasons / answers / solutions are all over the place as to what fixes and is causing the crashes.
