It seems to literally be a sharpen filter (think photo editing). I feel somewhat picky about it. The middle setting still feels not quite enough, but the new higher one seems almost too much.

Oh well, not really a big deal overall.

Haha, you guys, there are other threads in the gaming forum and people are still posting in them. Don’t they know the Witcher 3 is out? Other games are d0med.

So I was just wandering around the starting area and I found this one point of interest. I forget what it’s called, but it was basically an abandoned shrine on the side of the road and hovering over it said people would come back once the threat was eliminated. Problem was I didn’t see a threat around to eliminate. I tried meditating until night to see if something would show up, but nothing.

The icon on the map is white. I must make the icon gray. Please help.

I know the place you’re talking about. Time of day seemed important as I passed it without event during the day but returned at night and it had some creepy crawlies to take care of. I don’t recall the exact time of day, unfortunately.

For me I think it was around 9am.

The early 2013 photos that everyone serial posting on Gaf and losing their shit over have that ridiculous over-sharpening filter from The Witcher 2 renderer. I suspect that is why they added the high option back into The Witcher 3.

OK, I guess I just picked a bad time. Will give it another shot tonight, thanks.

So high is returning the look of 2013 photos, almost? I sorta liked it and will defiantly give it a try tonight.

Over on reddit a user made a comparison of Off/Low/High

Sometimes I look back at the time period between drawing my steel sword while speaking the Quen sign and sheathing my blade while the bodies of my enemies lay around me, and I feel like I’m really getting the combat in a deep and meaningful way.

I think the combat is fantastic, also. :)

BleedTheFreak, you should post a picture of you CE loots and Medallion wearing :p

Has anyone else made it to Velen? It sure does rain a lot. Sometimes I’ll meditate to try and get better weather , only for it to start raining again. :D

You will soon be ready for the Trail of Grasses.

P.S. I love the combat. Controls could be tweaked to be better but over all I think it’s fantastic.

I like the combat as well. I was worried that Geralt’s clumsy out-of-combat movement would be an issue when the swords come out, but thankfully, that’s not the case. My only complaint is that if you like using a lot of magic during fights, the select then confirm procedure can get annoying.

This. Having a hold+release to select would feel much more natural. I keep finding myself doing it, and then have to remember to press A when I realize that the selection screen isn’t going to go away on it’s own.

This is how I roll

Well, I’m stuck at the office so I can’t pose while wearing the medallion, but I did take some screens of the goodies I got when I picked up the game for an e-mail to my RL buddies, so I can share those for anyone interested. I’ll spoiler everything so it’s not a full page of me posting screenshots.

Statue. Just amazing. It’s behind me in my office now, everyone who stops in thought it was very cool.

Steelcase. No reason for it, but it’s really well made and looks amazing, so I’m keeping my discs in it and storing it in the bookshelf. It can hold like 9 discs, so I could use it for something down the road, perhaps.

Hardcover Artbook. This thing is incredible, just amazing and gorgeous. I’m worried it has spoilers, so I’ve set it aside for now, but it’s massive and every page is detailed with not just art but comments by the art team. Here is the cover.

Hardcover Artbook - here is a sample page.

Witcher Medallion. It’s actually made with very highly craftsmanship, or at least it looks like it. It’s got some heft to it, and it’s real cool looking. I will admit I put it on, and immediately felt like a huge nerd. Not that I took it off or anything.

Signed box. I feel bad I have no room to keep this monstrous size box that everything came in, but I did get this photo.

Strategy Guide. Not part of the CE of course, but I grabbed it when I grabbed the game and it’s really amazing. Anyone on the fence should just grab it, it’s well worth the investment. Incredible quality in the binding and layout. Here is the cover.

Strategy Guild sample (map).

Journal that came with the strategy guide, this is a very nice looking and wonderful to hold little book with some cool stuff in it. Again, like the art book, fear of spoilers has thus far kept me from digging into it, but I will at some point for certain. Here is the cover.

Journal sample page!

So, a question about Quen–can I only cast it outside of combat or something? Because I tried to cast it a couple of times yesterday and it seems I couldn’t do so (for instance, during the fist fight right outside the first inn you visit). Seems pretty silly not to let a person cast it then, since combat occurs pretty unexpectedly sometimes.

Oh, and this isn’t really The Witcher 3’s fault, but I’ve been trained by all the other open-world games that when using a controller, “Y” means get in a vehicle or mount or dismount from an animal. That’s not true in this game, so I’m constantly unsheathing my sword when I want to get off Roach.

I cast it during combat frequently, not sure what that issue might be.

Papageno, you may be out of stamina when you’re trying to cast it.

Maybe I’m running into KevinC’s issue and I didn’t pay attention during the tutorial. Do I have to click the mouse or hit return to confirm/cast the sign?

You need max stamina to cast a sign - 99% isn’t going to cut it. Once you select it with the wheel, it’s “set” and you can then cast it with whatever key fires off your currently selected sign (RT on a gamepad, by default).
