Here’s a question…

If you have matching swords, like both the silver and steel swords from a particular set, does it go any kind of bonus or something?

The reason I ask is that I have diagrams for both weapons from a particular school, but I also have a diagram for what seems to be a better silver sword.

But I recall in Witcher 2, there were bonuses for using a whole set, so I’m wondering if that’s still in effect here.

Work release letter:

I’m going to need about 7 of those things with the dates blanked out.

Haha. Nice letter :)

Man, I must be the slowest player around as I’m about 5 hours into the game and I still have quite a few question marks on my map in White Orchard.

Has anyone on the internet found a way to disable fish eye during Witcher Vision?

Have you tried toggling from run to walk mode? That sorted out most of the issues I was having with this.

CDPR does the most boring patch notes. Where’s the bug tracker dump so we can mine for things to cheer about??

Please let us know if we have to reset those ini fixes. I tried them this morning and they seemed helpful.

I think the scaling is a little dumb so far. Fresh into the new zone, I decided to check out a question mark in the same landmass where I arrived. As I rode up, an arrow flew out of the bushes and took me down to a sliver of health in one shot. There was a group of humans there at level 9-15. I’m level 4, so I rode east down the river instead. I stumbled on a hidden treasure quest that was guarded by a level 10 drowner. It killed me in one hit.

I wish they had figured out an intelligent way to scale the content. Skyrim put the strong monsters at higher elevation, though that was a fake and gamey landmass. New Vegas had a donut shape of increasing difficulty. Here it could have been as simple as putting most of the strong enemies in the north side of the map.

Oh well, just another quirk I’m sure I’ll get used to.

Tim - same thing happened to me. I beat them with the mind control axii and kiting. If you axii, walk up and light attack, its an insta kill if done right

Yeah, not a big help in my opinion. He still steers like a boat and I’m constantly two-stepping back to get to the correct hotspot to loot.

Jason - I don’t necessarily need to kill them right now, it just means I will have to come back later with little to gain for doing so.

The other issue is I don’t think you can loot something you’re standing right over. Like backing in a trailer, you’re better off moving away and trying again.

Haha, same here, I killed all them dudes via some horse combat and Axii and sword on the shield guys.

I guess it’s a fun excuse to try horse combat against humans even though I much prefer the combat on foot. Good idea.

Note to myself:
-Try to jump in the middle of air when falling, it seems Geralt will do a roll avoiding (part? all?) damage.
-Save before exiting the first area, I read from someone you can lose items when speaking to the Emperor.

Things I have noted:

  1. Arrow Deflection skill is key. With only one point, it’s awesome for advancing on guys with bows. Once you put two points into it, it basically lets you kill any guy with a bow from range if your reflexes are good.

  2. It’s possible to make archers kill their friends if you can manage to get them between the archer and yourself. In white orchard, I managed to kill a bunch of level 7 bandits while level 3, mainly by having their one archy buddy shoot them all in the back, and then running up to him and cutting his head off. I think Geralt said something funny right before he did it too, like, “Nice move.”

I’m about 5 hours in myself and there at least 4 question marks still in White Orchard. I’m taking my time with the game, exploring quite a bit, sometimes just wondering around. I’m loving it so far. :)

Tested the 1.03 patch performance a bit when I got home with FRAPS, I was getting about 38FPS on average (sometimes 40, never under 30) pre-patch with HairWorks off and everything else cranked up to Ultra. I still get the same basic performance, but I noticed HairWorks didn’t seem to take nearly the hit it did before - I’m now at about 32 FPS and it didn’t dip below 30 even while battling 4 Harpies I ran into. I’ll keep it turned ON for now but I’ll drop it if I see any hitching. I suppose I could probably reduce my quality to High and not really notice a difference, but if I can run Ultra, I will.

So you leave your guard down and block when you see the arrow in the air? This skill seemed a little boring to me because I thought I’d need to keep my guard up the entire time. I suppose I should have put one point into it instead of a third point into strong attack, just in case it came in handy.

I’m with you. My time in Galaxy says 14 hours. My guess is 4 of those was paused. Another 2 hours from my initial game that I restarted. I’ve been in the new area for less than an hour, so I probably had 6-7 hours of play before moving to the 2nd area.
