I don’t know, but I must have it!!!
I’m really enjoying this for all the reasons. I’m still dinking around the starting area - had to restart thanks to deconstructing my starter swords and I upped the combat difficulty to max-1, but it’s just delightful how good the quest-related writing is in White Orchard. I hope it stays at this level of quality.
My biggest complaints would be having to two-button to get map and signs and the clunky-ass inventory. Well, that and the fact that I’m not going to be able to play much over the holiday weekend.
You mean, the starting point? It was the in the notice board. From there you have a waypoint to meet the client, and another to re-meet again and do the search.
Game has crashed my display driver twice now.
If you’ve already left the starting area by completing the quest you can return but the item won’t be there anymore.
Not sure if it’s important, it goes into the quest items tab. Actually I kinda don’t want to know if it’s important I think.
Everybody restart. Thanks, Telefrog!
Don’t forget to re-check your video settings after the update. It had reset my textures to low, and it put sharpening to low instead of off.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Which quest are you referring to?
And where did i start out at where the skull would be? (N, S, E, W in White Orchard)?
EDIT - I found it, sitting there still waiting for me. I’m about 4 hours in, so not sure which quest would prevent me from getting the skull, but i haven’t left WO yet.
I won’t be the first or last to find this, but I had to chuckle:
There’s a treasure hunt quest that says “Suggested Level: 18.” It requires you to turn on witcher vision, walk 5 feet to a corpse to pick up a key, and then unlock the treasure chest nearby. Haha.
New patch definitely made the UI snappier with a gamepad. Try moving the cursor around the inventory. Hurray.
The quest that takes you out of WO is the one I meant.
I think the skull is right next to where you have the first fight in the game (not the sparring, the one against the ghouls).
So, I can no longer eat food from the inventory during combat. Guess they closed that exploit :)
Stumbled on a level 33 quest in a cave. I hit the boss 20 times and made zero impact on the health bar. Heh.
That moment when you realize this game sucks at autosaves.
The fancy guide book that arrived today says that the crystal “isn’t a hugely helpful item,” for whatever that’s worth.
Ok, I probably shouldn’t have taken a “quick” look at this; a couple of hours dinking around the first village, including time in that first tavern, and I’m on the verge of getting addicted to it. BUT NO! I will put it on hold until… ngg… 18 July! Then I get a week with it, then another week at start August. Pity it’s not really playable on my laptop. Hopefully a patch or two will have arrived by that time to fix remaining niggles.

A few technical observations about the patch.
I noticed some people complain about worse fps, or better fps only on 9xx Nvidia card. With a 770 I measured right before/after patch and I saw basically no change. Or a 2 fps improvement. So there weren’t significant changes for the better or the worse.
I measured SweetFX (with SMAA antialiasing and its own sharpening) the difference on/off is about 3/4 fps when above 60 fps, so it’s really negligible since it actually does improve video quality a lot. The horribly ugly sharpening effect the game offers also has around 1-2 fps impact. So you are much better off disabling in-game AA and sharpening, and use SweetFx instead for same fps but much better quality.
I measured the high/ultra difference on texture quality, now that ultra adds 16 anisotropic. No difference at all in fps on a 770, and it’s even a 2Gb model.
Oddly enough, vsynch off makes fps worse.
The only actual improvement overall is that during dialogue now performance seems smooth, where before it was stuttery.
Lost 2 hours of gameplay, but went back and got the bird skull, lol. :p
I have just made it back into Velen for the 2nd time! At least I only did 2 quests in this area before, so not much to backtrack.
Really liking the HIGH sharpening filter option, makes it looks a lot more like Witcher 2’s crisp edges.
