Reading this thread makes me so happy I am a console gamer. I don’t think I could take all the PC settings stuff that seems needed.
I love how the swords have different, highly detailed scabbards.

Are sure that there are recipes later that require your starting weapons? The only thing I have seen that upgrades a piece of starting gear are some potion recipes (which is fine because you can’t sell potions AFAIK) and the starting chest armor.
I, uh, don’t really see a difference in the shots. Not sure I see much of a difference in the game either.
That’s cool. I am gonna go back and see if I can find it.
yeah…it seems to save after making quest progress. Sometimes…
WTF!
You can play the PC version exactly like the console version if you wish; just launch it, hit New Game, and don’t worry. The Video menu is for those who want more control, especially as autodetect can often be too conservative. This is the way pretty much any modern PC game works these days, which is a good job or my mum would be stuck!
Do people really just use console controllers now? This control scheme is killing me.
I didn’t for the original, but I did for the second one and am for this.
I used mouse and keyboard for Witcher 2, tried both for this one and am currently leaning towards the controller. This game has pretty terrible game feel regardless of the control scheme (the first two games weren’t really any better). Good thing it’s firing on all the other cylinders.
The default keyboard scheme seemed weird at first, but in the end I am using it without problems. Shift+click for heavy attack included.
Holy shit.

Geralt werewolf fight
Is fucking Witcher 1 Barghest levels of bullshit.
“Hey guys? You know what be cool? Let’s have big conversation in the middle of a boss fight. THEN, after the conversation, the boss will rapidly regenerate! Won’t that be SO fun for the player?!”
No, I don’t think we are sure. The Witcher gear you craft in White Orchard only requires the starting chest armour, not the sword. Unless the starting silver sword is used much later - but that wouldn’t make a lot of sense.
Also Rico checked the official guide earlier in the thread which says pretty much the same:
The starting witcher swords BOTH can be used as a crafting ingredients in White Orchard. Its tied to a level 6 quest in that area.

That makes me wonder just how much I missed there? I was…level 3 or somesuch as I left White Orchard on normal difficulty and thought I’d been everywhere.

I don’t suppose you’ve made a map marker to share with the rest of us? :P
Yeah this was pretty annoying (conversation in between I mean). Same for one of the fights in the Baron questline (I hope the name alone isn’t a spoiler).
A small tip regarding regeneration - fire puts a stop to it :P.
Ok, what?

Do you mean the viper school swords? You do not need starting witcher swords to craft those, only the base materials.
And I think I figured out why I like the quests so much. Partly because of Geralt himsel, he’s a realist, uses logic and promptly dispenses with all the bullshit that comes his way, doesn’t take shit from anyone he doesn’t want to, etc - his actions are very much in sync with what I as a person would want to say in his place. The writing is also smart and unpredictable enough that you don’t know in advance what’s going to happen - in other games you often have situations where players know exactly what’s going on but their character is left in the dark. In Witcher 3 (so far, anyway) this hasn’t been the case, player knows just as much as Geralt does which works wonders for immersion and some real roleplaying where you act on limited information.
Wait till they start talking about all the cool mods. :(

If you have money to waste these days you could as well buy a laptop with a 980M and when you need it you put it next to the TV, hook your PS4 controller and you’re done. Just like the console.
You can aim at twice PS4 fps at similar or even slightly better video quality.

I am pretty sure it required a witcher sword blade, now I am doubting myself…

Lordkosc - what level were you when you left the first area, if you can remember?
Level 4 , Its where I restarted from a previous save. I decided to lose about 2 hours of play time and go back and get it. :p
