You get more exp for turning him down.

Yep, and it was there where I realized just how well the game had indoctrinated me in the code of the Witcher. In other RPGs I don’t care about getting paid, but there I was like, “What do you mean you don’t have any money?”

Ha ha, those things take two button presses for PC users!

The repair costs are kind of crazy. I have no basis on which to judge repairing armor, so I can’t really criticize that, but swords? It’s nuts. I’m assuming routine “repair” on a sword is cleaning and sharpening it. Maybe re-wrapping the haft or filling in chips and dings after a particularly hard battle. At higher levels, why would that cost more than outright buying or crafting a basic sword?

And yes, I realize that this repair cost logic didn’t bother me in other RPGs. I guess it irks me more here because the world is so well-crafted.

… Or you can just press “M” or “I.” The game is really great about seamlessly swapping between KBAM and a controller (annoying message aside.)

She doesn’t pay you with money though, does she?
I thought she just gave me a bunch of food.

I’m seriously considering using medium armor and making a sign-focused character because the light armor looks so dumb.

And yet switching signs in combat is annoying too!

Conclusion: I will worry about it later.

Oh. Rats. I thought you guys had to go through two steps to get to those screens. Well, at least we can all laugh together at the poor bastards with Xbox Ones.

5 baked apples I think…

Hey!

Oh, right. That’s why I’m playing this on my PC.

One thing about the armor… I think a lot of the info I had previously read was incorrect.

Previously folks had suggested that medium armor increased stamina regen, but I don’t think this is actually the case. Light armor seems to be what increases stamina regen. Although medium armor can pair with the griffin school to increase sign intensity.

However, the effect is that light armor actually works very well for a sign heavy build. The signs aren’t super strong, but you can use them all the damn time. I noticed this last night, to the extent that I could basically spam signs every few seconds.

Your point stands though, in that the light armor all looks like freaking clown suits. Not sure what the deal is with that… I mean, I guess it’s supposed to be like the old “padded armor” from D&D, which I guess would be puffy like that… but it looks dumb.

reddit PSA says you do not need starting armor to craft the late game armors.

There is another set of elite Witcher gear you will get later that you should save. It’s upgradeable.

I think everyone can stop worrying now.

Light armor , product demonstration!

I like the light armor in this game. I guess it satisfies my inner fop.

I wouldn’t mind it as much if it looked like a shirt or something.

But most of it seems to look like Geralt is in a freaking fat-suit.

Meh. I’m an inner Dapper Dan man.

What I do think has been a bit undersold for this game is just how much…deftness (is that the right word here?) has been applied to facial expressions in the game. I mean, it’s a tough job. This isn’t LA Noire. There’s going to be marionettes on parade here. Even so, I think they do a magnificent job of catching people giving one another the side-eye and reacting to one another.

Case in point:
not a biggie, just reuniting with someone after White Orchard

When you meet Yen for the first time, she seems kind of…cold to you. And there’s that note, which she might as well have started off “Dear chum” and signed “Your pal, Yen”. If not for the unicorn post script, I dunno. So yeah, Yen’s kind of standoffish, and I’m all “Damn girl. We’re soul mates, right?” And so finally as Geralt you get the chance to call her out on that, and she hits you with the whole “I didn’t want to interfere with you and Miss Redhead playing house…” and gives you a look, and you can just see Geralt’s face fall…and damn. Also, great dialogue through that whole sequence as well.

Ya, the facial expressions are very well done… the counter to that is that the same character models are re-used a bunch of times.

So you end up encountering characters, who are clearly different people, and yet have identical faces to folks you have already met and had conversations with… which is kind of weird.

Eh, I noticed the repeat character models a LOT more in TW2. Nowhere near as repetitive here.

mild spoiler from the books
For people who read the books, that’s Yennefer, alright, really, apart from a few moments here and there. One specific section in the books describes the nature of the relationship between Yen and Geralt so poetically and perfectly that it’s one of my favorite sections of any book ever.

(by the way, he’s a Google Books link with that page. It’s a spoiler, of course, but read it if you want to see one of my favorite sections of any book ever. Here )

By the way, Witcher 3 Yennefer is very close to how I imagined her after reading the books. CDPR nailed it in my opinion.

But yeah, that’s Yen. I hope CDPR develops her relationship with Geralt further, but, so far, I’m very happy with the characterization. It’s obvious how much CDPR loves the Witcher universe, and if the whole game is a treat for people who haven’t read the books, it’s a much bigger treat for people who have.
