I chose to kill the tree, but I’m not sure it was the best choice or not. In the grand scheme of things I don’t think it will matter a lot, but it does have some type of altered outcome. I’d say go with what feels right to you. I’m disappointed in myself for looking up a little information on it. Only time I’d done that so far this game.

On the flipside…

Tower of Mice

They got me with this one. I was still in normal BioWare RPG mode of thinking, so of course I should help the ghost forgive her true love, right? D’OH!

This Cat school stuff is a lot better looking than the Eddie Bauer gear I was wearing before. If you’re using light armor keep an eye out for that scavenger hunt. The armor is for level 14 and I was able to do the quest then without much trouble even though it says level 17. At least the first part, which gets you the gear. Haven’t picked up the sword plans yet.

Yeah, you can miss it, just like you can miss talking to the herbalist. If you already have the buckthorn, you never talk to her. If you already have found the Griffin nest on your own, you never talk to the hunter.

The game is pretty I organic, in that the Griffin nest doesn’t magically appear or exist behind some magic wall. It’s just out there for you to find if you wander.

I just read what happens for the other choice. You are right to suspect there are pros and cons with each option. Unlike ME3, there doesn’t seem to be a way to grind out the best ending. I think you should follow your gut. However, I’m now prepared to make a recommendation for people who truly can’t decide. This is based on the most interesting outcome in terms of this work of fiction rather than the “good” ending.

If you save the tree spirit, you will later see one of the most well-composed scenes in the game. It’s not a tear-jerker, per se, but it’s a powerful conclusion to multiple story arcs. This is where I posted a screenshot and said “these characters are impossibly good.” (major spoiler warning)

This was another one where I don’t think there was a good or bad ending. Unfortunate in some ways, yet it still felt like it “set things right” in a storybook way. I was fine with it in the end.

Some RPGs can feel a little tedious when there’s only bad options. OLOL GRIMDARK! They’ve written it well enough that it doesn’t feel like you’ve “lost” no matter what you do. Instead things happen, and then life must move on.

I liked the part where Geralt

Tower of Mice

goes and describes to the boyfriend how his girl died, by being eaten alive by rats. Damn Geralt! There is this little concept of too much info!

Guys, help me pick a new steel sword.

a) 114-140 damage, +18 fire damage, +11% igni intensity
b) 107-131 damage, +7% igni intensity, 9% chance of incineration
c) 121-149 damage, +41 anti-armor, +6% critical chance, +2% dismemberment

a) does the most damage (158), c) is in the middle but 41 anti-armor seems good? I’m not sure of how the armor penetration values work; b) does a bit less but 9% chance per hit of giving incineration (when someone is burning, receiving damage over time and being busy with the burning animation) is pretty good, too.

What spec are you? If melee then I’d say c)

Also, Skellige Islands are actually pretty awesome, looks like it was just that first island I visited that was a bit underwhelming.

For nearly equivalent swords, pick the coolest looking one!

Good news on the islands.

Had all day to play, and what do I do? Played 4hrs of gwent. :|

Is Steam down? :|

Love how when you call Roach while he is feeding, he’ll just ignore you.

(Not sure, lordkosc, I’m playing the GOG version.)

Hmm hold left trigger works to compare weapons and armor, doesn’t it? Or is that just in the inventory screen. Either way not sure about horse parts.

Other thoughts:

Dandelion is the worst VO by far. Those loading intros are worst audio in the game.

After thinking Alchemy was weak…the tier 1 ability that gives you 1 extra toxicity for each alchemy formula you have has to be the most powerful ability point for point. At level 14 with just 1 point my toxicity went from 100 to 166. So you can roll with a decoction on all the time and pretty much use regular potions at will as well, without having to worry about high toxicity killing you.

Regarding Gwent…early on I found success building around the default Northern Realms deck, gearing towards siege stuff. Siege Foltest leader card is great, I got that pretty early I forgot where from. Spies are great, I deck all the ones I can but right now I just have two. When I draw them I play them in the first round and then just try and gain a card advantage on the AI while eventually passing the round. Decoys…I think are just ok. I don’t think they help much vs spies, the strength of the spy is giving you cards when you play them and decoys do nothing to prevent that. I like them in round 2 or 3 to reclaim my own medic units that instantly play a unit from your discard pile. Early when you don’t have many specials I decked them but, IMO, horns and scorch are way better. Frost is must have vs Nilf and Monster. Fog is must have vs Squirrels.

My money gets spent on formulas/crafting diagrams, repairs, gwent cards, dismantling/crafting fees. I also buy saddle bag upgrades when I see them, but I have only found 2-3 and might be capped. I think I have 6k at level 14. I loot everything. I sell most weapons unless they have runes I want back. I generally sell junk except for a handful of things. I also sell alchemy components when stacks get over 20.

Grabbed the Cat School gear after some long enjoyable horseback rides and sailing. Unfortunately, the low tier Cat armor looks like something out of Grease. I can’t use the enhanced version for another 5 levels.

I have to admit this dark green Ard Skellig Aketon is quite snazy. Probably the least garish and best looking of the light armors I’ve seen. I think I’ll stick with it for now even though its stats are worse.

I’m with the folks that aren’t running into money problems. I have a surplus.

I’m probably hoovering up too much junk, but it keeps me flush with cash.

How can anyone stand a control scheme where pressing back spins you around and faces you into the camera? And without any ability to side step? And with that limitation you are saddled with this need to “lock on” to enemies to fight them because the controls are so hideous.

Maybe these developers need to play some Skyrim, discover how a real control scheme works. Upthread someone complained about the hassle of looting; imagine how much less of a hassle it would be if you didn’t have to manhandle Geralt into position to loot everything.

It just might kill the game for me.

So much of the armor looks terrible. I refuse to wear most of it.

Is anyone reading the quest journal recaps on the completed quests but me? Because its great writing. Some of my favorite excerpts:

“It turned out the woods did not hide a “shaggy fuck-knows-what”, as the captain of the guard put it, but a band of Scoia’tel.”…“Though the Witcher Codex would recommend charting a neutral course in such a situation, Geralt sailed according to his own moral compass. His needle pointed decidedly towards the elves’ much-deserved death”

“…Geralt, for whom any excuse to paw through others’ possessions is a good one, decided to search it and see if she had left anything behind that might help him find her”

Just got some new armor that doesn’t look horrible, I am level 10 still in Velen.

Yeah those were my favourite bits so far as well! Good reading.

Hahahaha, you did not just reference Skyrim as a shining example of good controls. I must be reading that wrong since Skyrim in 3rd person still controls like a joke (an improvement over Oblivion, but still bad).

Given the perspective, and the fact that the controls are somewhat similar the Souls games would be a better comparison. Though they don’t have any sort of auto lock on.

I don’t like the “on your face” sexual overtones. They are more a joke and a cliche than something realistic.

Also this version of the Gerald is metrosexual. He is too pretty and fancy, and not in a good way.

Is not manly in a manly way. Is feminized violence.

I feel like playing “Julian Assange 3: Wild Hunt”, with a young efebician Julian.

This game pulls a “non russian” here. Is “not men”.

I don’t want to say it, but I am going to say it, this is a game where you past most of the time picking flowers and frolicking in the forest while the Big Wolf is hunting you.
